  1. Unfortunately not as i'm based in the UK.  I suppose the problem is neither SNCF or RENFE have any interest/pay off in indicating a cross border service.  It seems odd when there's so much on the web about getting to Andorra which is nearby to both.
  2. thank you gosub yes, had seen that site but it's the actual time-table i want.  it's bizarre that it seems impossible to get it.
  3. Thanks cooperlola That was fanatsically quick.  You must have a magic touch.  I did give the german site a go but it seemed to default to a station with a similar but double-barrelled name, not Puigcerda.  Puigcerda and Latour de Carol are either side of the Franco-Spanish border so theoretically the journey should be short. Am i missing something [apart from brain cells before anyone else chips in]!
  4. Please can anyone help?  I've spent hours on the internet trying to find out the timetable for trains between Puigcerda in Spain and Latour De Carol and Foix in France.  I've used the SNCF website and RENFE [Spanish equivalent including it's local site Cercanias].  You'd think it was a figment of my imagination were it not for lots of entries by people who've used it, posted video records of their journeys etc etc Anyone out there with any definite info? Many thanks and much appreciated   p.s. have put the same query on the travelling to/from france section

  6. Please, can anyone tell me if there is a particular name for the common iris that you see by the roadside etc, is mauve/purple and has a very delicate scent?
  7. Just wanted to add my two penneth of praise for Nationwide and its very effective credit card security.  i was in france for the last couple of weeks. i'd notified them i'd be away and would be using my credit card there.  They picked up a miniscule transaction as being out of the ordinary originating with a well known music download site.  don't know how Nationwide pick these things up but i'm delighted they do.
  8. sorry, bit of a digression but does anyone know why French institutions don't enable credit card payments?
  9. thank you cooperlola, i have forwarded the link to them.
  10. a widowed friend, who has been living in france for several years, has been rushed to hospital in a coma.  no power of attorney type arrangement was put in place for such an eventuality.  her adult children are based in the UK, do not know have a command of french and don't know what they need to do to manage her affairs in these circumstances. please, i would appreciate any helpful advice you could give many thanks
  11. i pray, if it does go ahead, it's done with real consideration for the look of the area and local architecture than the hideous blot on the landscape perpetrated at Chateau Barbet just outside Lombez.
  12. hi i'm really interested in the Nationwide option you mention.  am i right in assuming you are talking about drawing cash from a cashpoint machine in france and then depositing in your bank there?  i have a nationwide account and have only ever been able to draw up to a maximum of 300 euros per week so would be extremely interested in how you achieve £500 a day.  in france i bank with La Poste. many thanks  for any info

    Plastic E111

just to echo baz,  we applied for the E111 on line with about the same level of 'delay' as baz experienced.  i was amazed it was processed so efficiently.
  14. hallo george [and everyone who must by now be bored rigid with this b****y error message] i now think the 2 things are related and to save everyone further misery i shall attempt to find a local, trustworthy and knowledgeable IT person to help me sort it out.  honestly why do they have to be so complicated -  it should be as simple to resolve as changing a lightbulb. should i ever get it sorted i will of course let you know once again everyone thank you for trying to guide me through this
  15. hallo george many thanks for your advice. i tried the itunes download and although it all came through this time, sadly it has not resolved the problem but also has not exacerbated it which is a relief. i have also checked the error log for the laptop and this shows  [under the plug and play manager]   'the device 'Generic_Combo_Drive' 9ENE\CB710\Generic_Combo_Drive ) disappeared from the system without first being prepared for removal.  this suggests that i've inadvertently done something else.  would you know if this is something i can rectify simply or am i back to reinstall? or could i go to the relevant website and download the drive instructions if i can find out which company is involved? again my thanks to you and to everyone else who has tried to help
  16. dear all many thanks for all the advice and suggestions.  i did check the add/remove programmes but there was no sign of itunes.  i also tried system restore, several times both before making the original posting and plea for idiot language as that had exhausted my repertoire.  system restore is unable to perform so god knows what itunes has done.  i will try to download itunes again as suggested. for complex reasons involving the sudden death of a close relative [who used to set up and sort out everything to do with my computer including probs]  i cannot access my original windows XP pro hence my question about whether the home edition would be sufficient again thanks to all.
  17. hallo ron thank for sticking with this, it must have felt like drawing teeth since i didn't give all the relevant info in one go..  will it matter if i only reload windows xp home edition and not XP pro?
  18. dear all many thanks for your responses.  it's a stand alone laptop.  the error appeared after i tried to download the itunes programme but it never completed.  i tried to see if there was anything showing that i could delete but found nothing. i fear that someone is going to suggest that i go into the register but i don't have the nerve or experience not to mess up big time and feel i've exhausted what limited skills i have. any thoughts about whether loading just the windows XP home edition would solve this? once again many thanks
  19. so sorry i should have said.  i'm using Windows XP pro.  on opening up a small window appears saying 'windows installer'. then another small window opens headed: TrayApp, then on the next line 'Please wait while Windows configures the TrayApp'.  Then another small window opens it's headed TrayApp.  below that is a yellow triangle with a black exclamation mark in it.  next to this it says Error 1606 could not access network location.  on the next line follows: %USERPROFILE%\SendTo\ and below that 2 buttons offering either retry or cancel. if i press cancel repeatedly and quickly, after a while these windows disappear but the problem recurs each time i start up.
  20. dear all can anyone explain in words of one syllable and step by step, for a complete idiot how to get rid of this error message.  i have tried restoring to a previous date but this is not responding. honestly i do mean very very simple, easy to follow advice, as if i have no knowledge whatsoever! many thanks
  21. try this:vous savez qu'il serait faux vous savent que je serais un menteur si je devais dire à vous la fille que nous ne pourrions pas obtenir beaucoup plus haut venu sur la lumière de bébé mon feu
  22. thanks mazan you're right i had forgotten that the charge is for my debit card rather than to run the account itself.  still the system does feel archaic compared with the uk. the worrying thing in the uk is the increasing move to charging to withdraw your own money from cashpoint machines.  now THAT really makes me angry.
  23. i'm astounded by the force of your response boghound.  i honestly thought mazan's response was simply informative rather than judgemental. for myself i have to admit it's been an unexpected [and unpleasant] surprise that free banking for those in credit is not apparently widely available in france.
  24. i'd really like a low cost airline to use tarbes/lourdes.  selfishly, bliss would actually be a low cost service from stansted to toulouse or tarbes/lourdes. am amazed that other low cost airlines are pulling out of toulouse and am particulalry surprised by EUjet which seems to have stopped before it barely started. in terms of business use i think quite a number of business people use easyjet.
  25. if you are using Word for word processing go to 'Insert' on the toolbar, scroll down and click on 'symbol'.  you'll find individual letters with appropriate accents you can insert into your text by clicking on the letter you want then going to the bottom of the window and clicking on insert.  i realise this isn't the same as making them immediately available on the keyboard but may help.
