  1. Do not smoke, don't drink too much alcohol, avoid breathing in fumes from vehicles and don't drink water from plastic bottles - these are just a few of the things that, we are told, can cause cancer... Also, too much sex is bad for you, as is too little. Kissing can pass dangerous germs. Don't eat too much cheese and certainly never touch the unpasteurised stuff. There are too many chemicals in our clothes, too many in our plastic products - so get rid of your tv, hi-fi, fridge and freezer. And don't forget, the greatest percentage of the interior of a car is plastic, so don't travel in them. And for goodness sake don't walk because too many people are accident victims... I am two years down the road from a major operation that has saved my life after being diagnosed with prostate cancer. One of my greatest loves nowadays is getting across to our wonderful house in France and sipping some quality wine whilst sitting by our lovely woodburner - and no expert's opinion is going to stop me doing that!
  2. NuB - call me a cynic if you like, but your response from Stansted is about what I expected...
  3. Missed the match... How did Ben Youngs perform before he was substituted?
  4. In answer to Cjlaws question - no, I have never suffered rudeness from a member of the Ryanair flight crew teams... But I stopped flying with them 3 years ago when they set up their cottage industry of ripping people off. And I have seen their very rude CEO on tv a number of times. Incidentally, I mentioned earlier in this thread about my son flying to Amsterdam with KLM from Norwich... His 12kgs hand baggage allowance can be spread over two bags and if he arrived at the airport having forgotten to check-in on line, there would be no charge to do so there. (And don't forget I mentioned he has a free 23kgs bag allowance for the hold as well.)
  5. Great information... Thanks SD, brian and russethouse!
  6. If arriving at Lille on Eurostar and intending an onward TGV journey to St Pierre des Corps (Tours), does anybody know if the link is at the same train station in Lille? Thanks...
  7. Really funny, bettyboop... How great that you are able to turn a negative into a positive with your hearing problem!
  8. gardengirl - no offence intended, and yes, some regulars on here are very thoughtful and sympathetic when appropriate - I hold coops up as an excellent example of that. But there are jackasses on here as well... And if you read a few of the responses nubeginnings has received, you will see that people are analysing nub's original and subsequent posts trying to find discrepancies and challenging the accuracy of nub's posts. Why can't we just trust and believe what the poster has said?
  9. Of course they are in business to make a profit Iceni, but providing a 'good quality service' is obviously part of their business ethos. Have you never carried out any work for a 'quality company'? Nubeginnings - you will not win. It's a bit like being torn to pieces by a pack of wolves! (or jackasses...)
  10. Nubeginnings - I am afraid the sarcasm has become an established trend with some posters on this website and does keep a lot of people away... Iceni - I am sure that if KLM brought in all the charges that Ryanair impose, their profits might well close that gap. But thankfully there are still companies who actually want to give a good service as well, treating people with respect as they do so. And that certainly was not the case for Nubeginnings was it?
  11. I sympathise with you Nubeginnings... Yes, had you have done everything absolutely correctly to comply with their complicated rules, you would have been fine - but what a way to be treated for doing what many people do and that is buying something from the airport... They do not care about individuals. They only care about finding new ways of getting more money from people. My son is flying from Norwich to Amsterdam this week on a very cheap ticket with KLM. Included in the price is one bag for the hold at 23.5kgs and one carry-on bag at 12kgs... He has received his e-tickets and can check in online - all without charge. If KLM can do it, why can't Ryanair?
  12. 'Spirit of Britain' was obviously carrying out familiarisation trials in Calais last Saturday evening and she certainly looked a very beautiful ship - and did not seem to be excessively large in real life. Must say though, that I was surprised at a very large light rust stain on the starboard side...
  13. For those folk who have a bank account with Credit Agricole's Britline, thought I would share this experience with you... My French is better than average, but nowhere near fluent... On more than one occasion, I have enlisted the help of Britline's English speaking staff to help me with forms of a financial nature - even if not directly related to your bank account. Very nice and very helpful people - to account holders.
  14. No, not worried, just interested...
  15. That is a great story... I saw it on UK national television this morning, so I guess everybody is talking about him!
  16. Question... If you leave a peage autoroute to refuel and then rejoin, does that affect the toll cost and negate the fuel savings in any way?
  17. Fair comment nubeginnings... You've found a niche in the business market and very good luck to you!
  18. Woo! Until I read the other posts on here, I had not seen the prices. That weekly charge would feed my wife and I for six months - and we never go hungry! It seems like a plate full of nothingness is very expensive... The Emperor's clothes spring to mind.
  19. Thank you very much Sunday Driver. I know I must have those regulations somewhere, but not sure where... So, to anyone whose French is better than mine, would you agree that a Ford Transit of 2.9 tonnes and 2 metres high is acceptable? Thanks...
  20. I have a doofer from Alis and I use it in my car whenever we are in France... In a few days time I will be in France in a short wheelbase Transit van... Does anybody know if I can use my doofer in that?
  21. I took a look at your website and you certainly have a nice place there! You will love this area... Good luck to you from a neighbour of some 30 odd miles away!
  22. Thanks you two - we still yearn to be there full time and get up and go for French walks - which always seem to be so different...
