Hi Folks, We are lucky at the moment that we have friends that help us out with our cats and dogs but we need to find a good kennel and cattery for future reference. We will need it to be in the Beziers/Narbonne/St Chinian region. We know of Canicat in Maraussan but they keep all the cats in one small area together with any other cats that they have in,with an unguarded fire!!, in Britain there are strict rules about catteries with the cats being kept apart by at least 12 inches between runs, obviously there is no such legislation here!!!!!! If anybody knows of a nice cattery and kennels could you please post a link. Thanks

I unplugged sky when we went down to spain for a few days, when we plugged it back in ,it wont work. We are getting signal strength but no quality at all. We have replaced the dish, box and cable and are still getting the same symptons. Has anybody got any ideas, I am going stir crazy without it(5 weeks now) Also does anybody know of a good sky engineer in the Herault 34 department in case we cant sort it out ourselves. Thanks

I omitted to mention that it would be a SARL famille, dont know whether that would make a difference. We also spoke to a french friend of ours and he still reckons a SARL is the way to go because of the limited liabilities and the reduced tax and social charges on a society. The laws also changed last year in regards to the amount of capital you now need to tie up, we can also put half of the capital in tools and the other half to be made up over 5 years so we dont need to tie up large sums of money. I think we probably need to speak to an accountant first but are running out of time as we need to register soon as we have customers waiting. Any more help would be greatly appreciated

We are in the process of registering our business as a SARL ,and we have been given a list of paperwork we need to submit to the Chambre de Metiers . Some being an announcement in the local paper in the legal notices, a statut and copies of our annual general meeting. Has anybody registered as a SARL themselves and can offer any advice, it would be appreciated greatly. Do we just give them a copy of our newspaper announcement and they put it in the paper or do we have to put it in the paper ourselves and then take copies of the newspaper with us, it was not very clear.As my husband pointed out we would be announcing something that has not been registered yet so would be illegal. Also any ideas as to what we need to put into our statut altogether as we dont want to forget anything. Thanks

We are in the process of setting up in business and have already issued devis in english. We have been told by somebody that when we issue the factures after the work has been completed that we must write them in french otherwise the notaires will not accept them against CGT when the owner wishes to sell !!! We are unsure if this is correct , if anybody can help it would be gratefully appreciated. Also if it is true then how would we go about translating them as my french is not that good.

Hi Yes I done the course in June, it is all in french and they dont make any allowances for you if you cannot speak french. I took a neighbour with me who translated it all for me, it is a business management course, they discuss how to write devis and bills, how to work out the tva, book keeping etc, it is compulsary but there is no exam at the end, you receive an attestation saying that you have completed the course and you need this to register your business. If you take somebody with you , you will have to write a letter explaining why and take it to the chambre de metiers with you. Hope this helps.

I have just bought a digital camera from Aldi, Traveler DC-3080 and whilst I can read the gist of the instructions in french I would like to download the instructions in english but am unable to find a website , has anybody got any ideas please, much appreciated

Does anybody know the season for ticks,? my dogs are picking them up all the time, I use frontline each month to protect them against tick fever but would like to know when it will be safer to go out

My husband enquired about setting up as self employed carpenter in 34 with the chambre de metiers. We have been told that we have to complete a 7 day management course prior to registering, and that it is compulsary. Has anybody out there done the course to shed some light ?, also I will be doing the course as a french friend of ours has made enquiries and it is beneficial for us to set up as a family business,the only problem is that my french is not very good. I just need to know what the course entails and how hard it will be for me to complete it, some french friends have offered to accompany me for some of the days. Apparently we cant register until we have completed the course or does anybody know of a way out of doing it?

Could somebody clarify where we stand please. I am a qualified carpenter with 30 years experience living in the South of France,I want to start up i business working here but am having conflicting advice. I have been told that being a craftsman that I have to register with the office de metiers and apply for an artisan card, on the other hand I have been told by a french friend that I can work under the micro enterprise system which is a lot easier to set up,has anybody had any similar experiences in the above and have some useful advice for us please ?
