1. Please could you add a post code for Torigny as Via Michelin lists about a dozen choices none of which match exactly. Which make and model of Sat Nav or PC would also be useful. 'unresponsive script' normally means the internet connection os so slow that the process has timed out. At the risk of having the full weigth of the forum thrown at me try buying a coffee at McDonalds and downloading there if the device has WiFi access
2. Before he takes the dish down use a long spirit level and a protractor to show how much tilt you have on the existing dish. Suggest between 5 and 20 degrees. If tilt is 10 degrees to vertical now be at 10% to horizontal. I think if you have a pole mounted vertically now you will need a pole mounted horizontally for a upside down dish. I am pretty sure the LNB arm rather than the dish may now hit the gutter.
3.
Without doing the maths, I'd say no. Not least because the LNB would be in the shadow of its own arm. Suggest that you try it (to confirm that I am right!)
The LNB is out of the way in the same way that it is when the dish is mounted the right way up. The two links shown the arm as almost vertical which is correct. Even if it were not there are dishes with the LNB centre mounted.
4.  Angle of dish will I think from memory be 90% out, so dishes which are now near vertical would be near horizontal  if aligned with the arm at the top. Downsides, solid rather than mesh dishes will fill with snows and rain. First link describes changes you have to make, and maths of alignment. Set up is apparently common in New Zealand. http://www.bbrv.dreamstation.com/sat.html http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8tHKWNY9fZU   Edit sorry mean subtract right way up inclination from 90 degrees to find correct tilt, but remmebr to allow for offset of bracket normally 22.5, or 30 degrees.
5. However unlike a UK MOT they will not post date it till the expiry of previous MOT subject to from memory a maximum of 12 months
6. Pretty sure the route you describe uses the Pont Mathilde which was the one damaged by fire. April 2013 was suggested as reopening time in the newspapers in November 2012. It has reopened for velos. I plan to avoid Rouen in May unless it is fully open. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W6zgZKKDg7s
7.     http://www.largus.fr/    Is the nearest to Auto trader but because of distances involved French second hand car market seems much more local than UK. I would be looking for a recommendation from French neigbours for somewheer other than a franchised Renault garage also make sure thy know it is not an insurance job and that you want it running and in a state to pass a CT not perfect.
8. I am with chancer on this one. The last time I saw the figures buying all the parts to build a Ford Sierra cost 8 times the on the road price. So it is pretty easy to do enough damage for the car to be beyound econimic repair. Depending on the age of car I might be tempted to replace trim from a scrap yard if I could buy the write off sufficiently cheaply from the insurance company. More notes as link below : http://www.whatcar.com/car-news/flood-damage-what-you-need-to-know/what-happens-if-my-car-gets-flooded/226645 best of luck
9. Formalised D notice system. Libel laws which mean the seriuosly wealthy can intimidate anybody who it not seriously wealthy. Concentrationof media control in the hands of a few individuals Honours system which provides an incentive not to rock the boat
10. We moved 11 months ago in the other direction after almost 8 years in France. In France we lived well but shopped arround and did not buy expensive labels or our of season foods. The only things we found cheaper quality for quality in France were diesel fuel, wine and lager. Beer is a moot point when Lydl are on discount it can be as low as £1 a pint bottle. The drive in Hereford / supermarkets takes about 10 minutes versus 50 minutes when we lived in France. Price shocks on moving back. A good pub meal and drinks for in Chancery Lane Central London under £10.00 for two people. Versus probably at least three times that when we left. Internet with delivery much cheaper for white goods without delivery from Comet or Currys. B & Q almost up to Castorama prices for most things. Screwfix no longer cheapest, use Toolstation, but still good value.
11. I think the links are as below.  This explains how to set up and one hopes change the messengers. Best of luck repondeur orange fixe http://assistance.orange.fr/telephone-fixe/les-services-la-messagerie-vocale-3103-serv_mess_3103.php I thing the system works irrespecive of whether you have an orange box or not.
12. Sounds great and well within the capabilities of GPS and Tablets. 16 years ago I was well pleased with my self when I sorted an excel spreadsheet which took longitude, latitude and sat position to provide direction and orientation. Another bit of deskilling
13. I would be tempted by a satelite system. Top of the range self aligning over £1,000 but my typical time to align an 80cm dish is under 5 minutes.
14. Thanks that did make a difference - always wondered what that one did.
15. I had a long search a couple of years ago and unlike the UK there does  not seem to be a dispensation for driving to a pre booked MOT/CT.
16. There is a fuse inside the box which can blow see http://www.satcure.co.uk/digirep.htm#dead http://www.satcure.co.uk/accs/page5.htm#fuses Once you have checked everything. My first choice would be a UK Freesat decoder such as : http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5321557.htm?CMPID=GS001&_%24ja%3Dkw%3A{keyword}%7Ccgn%3Apla%7C%7C5321557%7Ctsid%3A11677%7Ccn%3Apla%7C%7C5321557%7Cmt%3A{MatchType}%7Ccrid%3A14542145259 Either SD = single definition or HD = High Definition if you have a large screen TV with an HDMI socket. HD is more expensive but future proof. The key advantages of buying a UK freesat box : The Electronic Program Guide will be better than an off the peg French purchased box. The box will automatically pick up the new paramaters when the big shuffle of UK channels happens this summer Second choice a Numerique Satelite decode but neither TNT par Sat or Fransat.  Some but not all TNT par Sat and Fransat decoders with a card slot have been slogged so they do not receive the full or any of the frequencies used for English language broadcasts. Example of a suitable box belox. http://www.darty.com/nav/achat/hifi_video/reception_tnt_satellite/decodeur_satellite/thomson_tsr_200.html#description If I was going through the hassle of having a box sent from the UK I would probably buy a HUMAX PVR for freesat. https://humaxdirect.co.uk/prodCat.asp?cat=stb&page=sat&gclid=CN_-n4zPhbUCFXDLtAodPl4Acw If your friend has a TNT par Sat box check that it does pickup the UK channels then buy the same model locally.
17. Just wanted to make sure you had understood both parts of the tax question : The  extra costs of TVA on materials versus using a fully TVA registered builder is not significant versus working with a builder you know and like. Assumung €10,000 pre TVA it is ‘only’ €1,200. The real sting in the tail comes when, perhaps die to changed circumstances you have to sell. Original net cost say                   50,000 Labour inc TVA                            10,000 Materials inc TVA                        22,000 Net proceeds                              75,000 Apparent loss                               7,000 Profit for French CGT                15,000 because the materials are not allowed Tax  and French NI Payable         5,175 There is taper relief which reduces the tax by 2% for the sixth year of ownership reaching 100% at 30 years
18. The above makes sense to me but I have never operated on that scale
19. Le Conte without a town or post code pulls nothing as a builders merchants in France
20. Trade price in the UK drops you by anything up to 60% depending on the item. One scope for dodgy practise add a couple of extra bags of cement or beams to each order etc. Sorry I learnt to count the cards and pour the gin at my mother's knee.
21. First reaction was that a builder who has not sorted out his own trade accounts sets more redlights flashing than a deep fried Mars bar. He or she may be on a tax regieme such as AE which makes it better for the client to buy and pay for the materials. However you will not be able to offset the bills against CGT unless the builder invoices you. You will also pay TVA/VAT at 19.6% for the materials, versus 7.6% depending on the type of work. Unlike the UK where applying for planning permision normally generates a trade account and a fair chunk of discount. French Builders Merchents seem to operate relatively low rebates driven from money spent each month. I have never been close enough to a BM and had a sufficient large/fast job going to qualify so advice in aneecdotal.
22. They all share the same problem. If for instance I purchase a 175 metre square place in XXXXX, for € 60,000. Worked hard fro six months and sold for € 135000. What does that dofor the average
23. Spurred by a PM which I thought I ought to reply to I have recently rejoined the forum after 13 months. Although I am now in deepest Herefordshire with fairly poor internet access, I have no problems with the other half dozen or so forums/fora I use. I find that the only quick way I can post a reply here is by clicking on the 'size' button at which point the cursor become a line in the reply box.
24. I have renovated an end of longiere into a two bath roomed two bed home during my holidays.  Done a fair bit of work on splitting a barn into three gites. Completely renovated a house including creating a kitchen dining room in the lean to barn. Renovated an fin de ciecle/Edwardian three storey seaside house. Everything I know says a new build quality for quality and space for space is cheaper. New build French doors. Stop building the wall and use reinforcing rods in the brique creuse both sides. Reach right height. Install or cast a lintel in situe using a frame to check doors go in. Barn conversion French doors. Put support through above window jack up till under tension. Install lintel half way through and allow to cement to cure. Repeat other side. Dig out of say 2.5 tonnes of rock and rubble. Cast floor allow to cure. Fit doors and probably replace 0.5 tinnes of rock. Dispose of remaining rock. Mark Bricknell 'The House Builders Bible' is a good UK source book for UK cost estimates and 'Construire ou Renovee Sa Maison' remains my favourite for French building. It is crammed with illustrations and useful tables
