1. No Birmingham, don't get it It just says Not Open at the check in
2. I am going on from Brest, so does anyone have any experience of checking in with Flybe at Brest, thanks for the replies so far
3. Hello, sorry to post in general but i really need a quick reply. Does anyone know about flybe checkin at Brest. can anyone confirm that what appears on the site is that even with a flight tomorrow I cannot check in as it says [not open]. Does Brest not operate an on line check in for Flybe? I know there is one for Ryanair.
4. Thanks Pickles, very helpful too
5. Thanks for the replies. Bernice did you pay the minimum price for your car or did you have extras? Does anyone know how this scrappage works and if it is definitely in place here still?
6. Need a man's input here. Citroen C1 is advertised in our local from E6890 on the English sites it is £6900. I always thought it would be cheaper to buy in England. Can anyone tell me why this is. Is it therefore better to buy in France or are there loads of extras that are not evident in France when buying a new car.
7. Does anyone find this practice a little unprofessional to take cash in an envelope unchecked and expect to get the same paid into your account without error. This is so risky it makes me cringe. There was someone posted on here about a discrepancy once I think, and if there is, tough luck.
8. I have come to the conclusion recently that certain supermarkets do not give a hoot about health and safety, else they just get away with it.  Recently a large supermarket chain near us got rid of its butcher.  I have told them several times about things out of date (just last week milk was five days out) but today I saw New Zealand lamb with a consumation date of January 2010, yes okay you might say, but it was stored in the open fridge and had obviously defrosted.  Anyone buying this is likely to get serious food poisoning.  I pointed it out to the young lady but she just said it was not her department and not her responsibility.  When I suggested it was dangerous and she might like to tell someone, she looked at me like I was a mad foreigner. (What do I know my accent is terrible).[:)] So is there an agency I could call.  I am disgusted at their lack of care for people's health. I know they have been fined before this chain.
9. Well just an update, I used the card successfully at the Intermarche today, so maybe it was just the manager of the other store who is not clued up and got a foreign card shutdown like they do. It could be because he saw that I had a french one too and wanted me to use it.    When I first came to France, I once used a Credit Agricole cheque book and after the assistant was looking at the cheque, I was told I could not write an English cheque!!! LOL. At least it gave all the people in the queue behind me a laugh.   I would still be interested to hear it anyone else has had a problem.
10. Thanks Quillan, you could be right there. No I was not embarrassed but felt that he was not lying to me because I had a long conversation with him about it and he assured me that the bank charged him extra for the transaction.  Actually dealing with French banks myself, that would not surprise.  But for big shops to refuse Visa cards, I find it hard to accept as visa is known all over the world.
11. The point I am trying to get across here, is that the rules appear to have changed.  Intermarche is not a small supermarket chain.  It is a large one and both have refused my debit visa card recently on amounts over E15.  I have been using my card without problem for two years simply because changing money and paying it into a french bank account equals big losses when the rate is down. Nationwide card is a debit card which I have used in all other shops until this week since 2006.  So, has anyone else had this problem.  The Intermarche is town is a tourist supermarket, so I really think someone has got their wires crossed.  If Visa does not allow them to charge extra fees, then I need to get my facts right before approaching the manager.  I too have never had a problem before.
12.
Say the B n W Minstrel show got Afro-Caribs to white up and Whites to black up, where are we then?
Black people white up all the time, (Michael Jackson for example) white women tan their skin.  What matters?   Didn't the B and W Minstrel show get banned.  There was no racism involved.  Golly got banned from jam jars etc etc. No one ever thought it was insulting black people.  and what about baa baa white sheep ..... the world has gone bananas Wooly.
13.  I am posting this in general because I think it is of general importance. I have used my Nationwide visa card here for two years.  Recently the supermarket manager of Intermarche in town told me he could not accept the card anymore as the bank had started charging him about four euros per transaction.  I tried to use it in another Intermarche today only for the card to be refused twice.  This will really pee me off if it happens everywhere. Not only do we have to suffer the rate of exchange, now we won't be able to choose when to change money again.  I have used the card successfully in another store but I am worried this is going to become a regular thing now in France.  I think it will apply to all visa cards that are not French.
14. When we came to France, our vendor was paying a very small amount.  We had alterations and ended up paying much more, even though there were the same amount of rooms. Four times almost which we expected but still less than what we were paying in UK.  He was also on a reduced bill as he was in his eighties.  I would, if I were you, ask the neighbours what they are paying, if there is a similar sized house near you.
15. Lots of ice creams too ( my brats in heaven), boule set, dog (please god ]turds in tissue under the bed   Nope, sorry, dogs don't use tissues...... [:D]  Was it a french or english dog?
16. Every so often, they fly out from under our patio, lots of them, it is like some horror movie.  You need to find the holes and put ant powder down there before they come out.  Also when they do, you can see where they are coming and put down boiling water.  Horrible aren't they?
17. Yes I agree, at least there is room to get out of the way of nutters over here.  In England you are so cramped up, if you leave a safe space, some idiot fills it. Georgina
18. Thanks for that, yes I suppose that is a possibility that they called just before, although it was the same hour.  That would explain the confusion.
19. Yes I can confirm that I have spoken to someone and then got the number.  I can also confirm that as in sales calls where the id is withheld mostly, the operator tells me that the number is not stored (I can't remember the phrase but whenever it is a sales call it is the same). Can anyone else confirm that it is just the unanswered call, as I don't find this. Georgina
20. Can someone explain to me how this is supposed to work.  I know for a fact that I have had at least three calls since 25th on the home phone.  Yet it only reveals the call on 25th as the last call.  It is not because I have answered the calls because before I have been able to get the number of the person I spoke to by calling 3131.  Is it a bit hit and miss this last number business.  I know that if they hide their id there is a different message telling me this. Georgina
21. Next time you want a day off, call a strike - that seems to be what most do, safety in numbers.[:)]
22. Yeah our dog does this, don't know why, except maybe she is not happy with the place her bowl is situated maybe, too much traffic. Georgina
23. So what is to stop them putting  a lower price on something just to get more sales and hope that the customer does not notice, and they won't.  It's criminal.
