  1. We agree Sid, and said much the same thing earlier in this thread.  Be interesting to see what actually happens.  We liked our French cards as they are apparently accepted in Quebec where our son lives! Never had to try it out though. Mrs H Edit.  Ignore bit about Quebec - it is the ordinary Carte Vitale that is (apparently) useful in Quebec - not, of course the European card,
  2. Our daughter tells us that in Germany at least one person (yes I realise that is not a lot..) has died of "shock" after receiving the jab and they are therefore cautious of giving it to people with multiple allergies.  Mrs H
  3. This only applies, as far as we are aware, if you pay all your tax in the UK; i.e. you are still resident there.  We pay tax on our offshore account (in the IoM)  in France and have always done so since becoming resident in France.
  4. I get a renewable prescription for six months for allergy tablets and eye drops.  I have never found a pharmacy in France who will give me more than one month's supply at one visit. I just go once a month and get them.  I understood that this is because if the prescription is changed for any reason there is less waste than if you are holding several month's supply. I don't find this a problem: if I will be away they will let me have my supplies early. Mrs H
  5. What's this with conkers getting rid of spiders?  Sounds too good to be true - I am, shall we say, terrified of spiders... Mrs H
  6. Surely in any case CPAM would only agree to pay for treatment that cannot be offered in France at all, not just because a dentist in the UK  would do something cheaper.  In any case one would have to travel to the UK so that cost needs to be factored in. Mrs H (thankfully with pretty good teeth)
  7. Hi Iceni  Yes I realsie that the new arrangements start in April 2010 but the French EHIC card we have goes on until October 2010. One would have expected the card to show an earlier expiry date? Mrs H
  8. Benjamin:  We saw that thread too (re EHIC cards from UK).  But: Mr H's French EHIC card ran out at the end of October and he has been issued with another French one with an expiry date October 2010.  He is the holder of an E121.   We find it bizarre that the UK pay France for our health care but then will pay again if we are taken ill in say Germany - where our daughter lives - and in any case what happens in the UK itself if we are ill when visiting Granny? We would not expect to get treatment free as we do not live in the UK but are the hospitals going to understand a UK EHIC card being used???? Very odd.  Sorry to go rather off thread. Mrs H
  9. You need an access code for Ameli.fr now in order to "order" anything.  You can ask for a code on the website and one will arrive in about a week by post. Mrs H
  10. Normandy Lover - I have emailed you. Mrs H Edit: email "undelivered" so have pm'd you.
  11. Watch it everyone - we got an email this morning, seemingly from Abbey. Telling us that our online connection for our account with them was suspended for illegal activity - "click here if you think this is wrong" -  er .. we don't and have never had an account with Abbey. Mrs H
  12. Update:  The kitten has been re-homed today so a happy ending. Mrs H
  13. Thanks for that!  Have put message re kitten on the end of another thread.  If that does not work will try to find bigdiva ! Edit. Tuesday.  Put note on Angloinfo.  It has been removed as I did not state the "chip" number of kitten/or her mother...Do they not  understand the words "abandoned"...?
  14. That would be a long way for us to take her, so we hope to find something/someone nearer.  Thanks for the address though. Mrs H Edit: now found that there is a rescue home near Avranches too so will contact them if no offers of a home are forthcoming.  Thanks
  15. We have been adopted by a kitten. As our house is very isolated we are pretty sure she (I'll call it she) has been deliberately abandoned.  We guess she is about 12 weeks. W are feeding her but cannot keep her - I have multiple allergies and cats are number one! We are giving her food and water outside. There are plenty of warm places around for her to sleep. My question is:  how do we go about getting her rehomed?  I cannot work out what to look up in yellow pages for a Rescue centre.  We are in Lower Normandy, Avranches/St Hilaire area. Thanks for any suggestions Mrs H
  16. As no-one with actual experience has replied I can perhaps say that we have a friend here with Parkinsons and she is very happy with her care.  She sees a specialist regularly, never heard of Parkinson nurses though, nurses here are independent and do not work through doctors practices. Mrs H
  17. My daughter has managed to find out that her German made child seat is legal in France.  Smallest will probably be 5 by the time they want to come anyway. Thanks again Mrs H
  18. Thanks for the reply Clair. The seat my daughter uses for the smaller child is specially manufactured for Vespas (possibly motor bikes too) Only one company makes them but I don't have the name.\.  It has sides and the child is sort of jammed between the adult in from and the back of the seat.  It does not have restraints - assuming you/the law mean straps.  If there is an accident the child is thrown off, as is the adult, so does not get trapped.  The children wear full padded clothing. I have suggested my daughter registers and joins in this thread. Thanks again. Mrs H
  19. Not sure if this query should be here or on "driving" but here goes: My daughter and son-in-law are keen Vespa riders.  In Germany, where they live, their two children are allowed on the back in proper child seats.  They understand that in Austria it is illegal to have a young child on the back but does anyone know about the law in France please? They have proper child seats (the children are 4 and 8), helmets, padded clothing and gloves. They would like to bring the Vespas in a trailer next summer and then go on trips from our house, including a day trip to Jersey (any thoughts on law in Jersey). Many thanks Mrs H
  20. I thought there was a different version of CESU for "small" employers - but they would then get tax relief via business accounts surely...? Mrs H
  21. We just bought light fittings to go over the wash basin that incorporate a shaver point, you have to look for them but they do exist! H.
  22. dandaz Have replied to your pm and sent link to CESU site for lots of info. H.
  23. On the slip to send in to Ursaff to show what has been paid the the employee it says put address and date of birth if social security number not known. Same thing if you use the online service.  We assume a social security number is then issued. If you were in France with an E form then you do have a number surely?? H.
  24. Assuming that the work you are to do can be covered by one of the schemes you probably don't need to do anything.  You give your social security number, name address etc to the employer and that is it.  Later you will get info on what has been paid for you and a sheet telling you what to put on your tax form. We pay our gardener this way (big tax advantage for us). H
  25. The disclaimer on the adverts page already says we take no responsibility.  We were just trying to see whether legally  this is enough. We are going to re-word and strengthen our disclaimer but in the meantime are making further enquiries re the law.  H.
