  1. I live in the Languedoc region of France. I am trying to find someone who could pick up two cylindrical wine (empty sadly!) tanks 1.8m high and 1.30 diameter, weighing 30 kg apeice (made of fibreglass) from Chateaudun near Orleans in northern France, and bringing them to the Herault, either for delivery or for me to pick up. I don't suppose anyone has any empty space in a van coming this way in the next two weeks? La Poste here says they're too big and the transporters all say they're too small to pick up. We start our first grape harvest in about two weeks' time and we're desperate for the tanks. Suggestions?
  2. Hi. When we bought our house here in France we used Kathie Murray Lacey at Prettys Solicitors in Ipswich - http://www.prettys.co.uk/people/kathie_murray_lacey.shtml Prettys were fantastic - quick, efficient and clear. We had little french at the time and it was important to us to fully understand all the documentation. I still think it was money very well spent. Good luck.

  5. I was whingeing to a french neighbour that our well has hardly any water in it. Her response was that I should run it just about dry then chuck some live eels down it. Apparently they eat away at green stuff and gunk in the bottom and re-open the vannes which then replenish the well. I wonder how the eels survive the fall and what happens to them afterwards. Anybody tried it?
  6. Having lived here in the Herault for a year I can honestly say that I haven't seen a single cow or sheep. Now if it was lizards and olives and vines you were after...... Good luck in your search!
  7. Hi Coco We have both joint and sole accounts with smile in the UK and a joint account with CA(!). I have frequently made transfers, by a simple e-mailed instruction from the smile website, to our french account. They say it can take up to a week, but on occasions it has been through in two days. I can check both accounts on-line which makes it ideal for us. Is that what you're looking for? I can't recommend smile highly enough - we've had no problems with them at all. Liz
  8. I use deck or yacht varnish - it may be a bit more expensive because we usually get it from chandlers but it's brilliant - hard-wearing and not slippery.
  9. Does anyone know if it's possible to get ADSL in the Herault region. We're moving there next year, but I have a computer company and will be opening another branch there, so our choice of exact town will be governed by available technology.
