FRELONS
Can anyone advise on the best way to get rid of frelons (hornets). We have 3 nests in the end wall of our house and at least half a dozen in our barn. So far we've left them alone and they've left u...
Not overly helpful, but we ended up with a bee's nest which became a bit of a problem.  I think the local marie will be able to help sort it out.  We paid about 116 euro's I have no idea whether that was a good price or not.  It was well worth it any way!   Good luck Jane87
2. We have just had a phone connected at our property in 87. We went into France telecom office in Limoges. The member of staff was extremely helpful, spoke English (which we did not expect). Advised us to have their service which basically means we can cancel and restart the connection as and when we are visiting (dialling a freephone number with number options). We do have to have a minimum break of two months each year. We also have a good rate for calling England at anytime of the day. Any break lasting for two months will not incur the line rental charge. I cannot praise the sales assistant enough. Jane

4. Hi All We had a great Easter with lots of work in the house and garden. I was luckily enough to spend just under a fortnight. my poor husband had to return to England for half of my break. The weather was pretty kind most of the time and I managed to sit outside in the sunshine a couple of lunchtimes, bliss. We visited the market at Objat which I highly recommend every Sunday. Also found another one which is always on the 18th of the Month whatever day that falls on at la Coisille sur Briance not far from St Germaine les belles. I think it can be quite a country market. The weather that particular day was very wet which was a shame. Regards Jane
5. Hi' I planted some out last year around the Easter period which even I felt was early. My French neighbour nodded her head in disapproval. I did plant them by the house and pretty protected. They survived and are now in my conservatory in Kent preparing to go out again to France this year. I am not really recommending you do the same. If you can do it later all the better but ensure they are in a very sheltered spot and they will stand some chance if the weather turns frosty. Regards Jane
6. Well done! We had our place on the 10th of March for one year and have to say, we have no regrets. Other half is there at the moment sorting out the kitchen and organising a fossie and a small part of the roof needing repair. We enjoy the challenges of sorting out these projects as we see it as preparing for the future. Good luck and enjoy! regards Jane PS We will be back at Easter and I am counting the days.
7. Hi All Is there any events, markets on over the Easter period that might be worth giving a visit. I am staying on until the 20th of April so would be grateful for any information covering that period. Regards Jane
8. Hi Thought I would let you all know how wonderfully helpful my French neighbours have been regarding the fossie. They arranged for an official from Limoges to come and inspect the land. They also sorted out test holes, filling them with water and doing timings to check the drainage (its bad). We now know where the fossie will have to go and we will also need a pump. They have been so helpful. He is also going to get the builder that did his fossie (he has the same land conditions as use) to give us a quote! I feel like we are beginning to get somewhere. We are not based in France yet and as you all know timings to arrange work can be difficult. Regards Jane
9. Hi, I cannot help with the mairie at St Yrieix but we are not far and come under Chateaux Cherix. We had a meeting with the mayor with our Parisienne neighbours translating. I found him very welcoming. I think with hindsight we should have gone on our own and just "give it a go". They were all chatting away at an incredible speed I was well and truly lost. Next visit will be Easter if I can get it arranged we will see him again. We have been given forms to fill out for an application to have a fossie installed, they appear very complicated. I have already ask on the forum about that one. Just like everyone else I have found everyone to be very helpful and welcoming. bon chance Jane
10. Can anyone help, we have quite a few jobs needing to be done and I would like to contact a reliable builder. We are not far from St Yriex la Perche. We visited le marie regarding the fossie and came away with a folder full of forms to fill out. It appears very technical information they want and we do not have a clue. So any info regarding how to get the ball rolling on that also would be most gratefully received. We are over for a long weekend on the 6th of Feb (sounds terrible went at the moment). Living in hopes! Jane
11. Hello All Second time at this, not quite sure what where the last try went! Just wondering if there are any of you around this area. When I read the postings most seem to be the East or North side of Limoges. We have had our property coming up for a year in March, no regrets throughly enjoying it. Cannot wait till retirement. Never thought I would have said that! Happy New Year to everyone.
