  1. I have used Speedferries every 4 days for the last 3 1/2 years for my commute to and from work in the UK, so to say they would be missed is something of an understatement ! It was their low prices which allowed me to move here when I did, instead of waiting until I retired. I currently have about £800 in advanced bookings which I stand to lose if they fold (bought on a debit card as I wont have a credit card). Yet I do not have any ill feeling towards them; whether you used them or not, whether you liked them or not, if you used any Dover ferry in the last 4 years you have benefited from the price war they started. I am watching now with trepidation for the other Pirates to start hiking their prices the moment SF goes under, as it could mean me having to move back to the UK . So thanks Speedferries for what you tried to achieve and let's all spare a thought for his employees who face losing their jobs, not only in the run up to Christmas but also at the start of a serious recession.
  2. Although they haven't got a second boat, it isn't for want of trying. .I've read that the terms of the lease at the hoverport call for a two ship service in 12 months ,the grapevine is saying a short term charter of a 74metre cat is under serious consideration , perhaps to be used at peak times only . Also a 78metre vessel ELANORA may be available as a short term option , until a larger cat becomes available .
  3. Unfortunately no, I used them yesterday on the 13.30 from Boulogne to Dover and we left half an hour late. The crossing time was close on 70 minutes due to technical problems with one of the engines. This was, it has to be said, a bit disappointing after a month on refit. The old hoverport looks OK, although we did seem to struggle to get on the berth more in the brisk North Easterly wind, than was the case on the old berth on the Eastern Arm. Still all things considered, if Speedferries hadn't started the price war I couldn't afford the halcyon life I have now - the perfect home life in France, the perfect job in England. They don't choose to run late and certainly don't choose to have these continued engine problems.
  4. Oh well I can vouch for the accuracy of these figures !  Just been caught for 96kmh in a 90km zone. The annoying bit is the speedo accuracy on my car is to within 10% (UK Construction and Use Regs) and when I triggered the camera my speedo was honestly reading less than 90kmh. At 45 euros and 1 point it's not worth trying to argue, but I'll know for next time to go past the camera really slowly in the time honoured British fashion !
  5. The timing was ironic, I travelled to work with Speedferries and was delighted to find that their surcharge was lifted. When i got to work I found an e-mail from Seafrance ! They are truely having a laugh at our expense.  I have now cancelled all my Seafrance reservations and transferred to other operators. 'Fight the Pirates' springs to mind
  6. Used the new road for the first time today, it does bring you out at the roundabout by Leclerc, so you are OK for fuel. However no thought seems to have been given to how traffic can merge with the traffic already on a busy roundabout. This was causing a huge (by French standards) tailback on the new road. Hasnt so much cured the problem, it's just moved it !
  7. I'm sure the new link joins the docks to the roundabout by Leclerc, so you will still be able to access the filling station.
  8. If Hoverspeed go,perhaps Speedferries could operate from the old Hoverport as they do seem to be a bit squeezed into a corner at the Eastern docks. At least Speedferries started a major price war on the channel and made cross channel commuting to work a viable proposition. Long may they continue.
  9. Thanks, had a quick look at that site and it looks to answer all my questions as you say. Just need to spend a while longer over it with a dictionary !
  10. I'm about to purchase a Citroen Ami, via E-bay, which is on a carte grise de collection. Just few queries someone might be able to help me with.........After purchase how quickly must I re-register the car ? Is it possible to go back to a normal carte grise after the vehicle has been 'collection' ? Also is it OK to take the car to England from time to time (I live in Pas de Calais and so don't need to leave the department to reach a ferry). Sorry to ask such simple questions but you know how things are when you first move here !
