1. We think that Foix is a very  nice town and some of the surrounding areas are lovely. We have a house near Lavelanet and although we can ski in our local ski resort Mont D'Olmes we prefer to ski at Ax. We have never had bad snow conditions ther for the last three years. As you go towards arascon the valley becomes narrower and a little darker so Foix is probably your best bet.
2. We have also had problems with finding paint that will cover turquoise paint and have had to paint three or four layers on. We have the added problem in the next bit of painting as the electrcians plastering has left pathways of new plaster on the walls. A friend has suggested a sealer of some kind which will then allow us to paint over these tracks and the paint will not then soak into the walls. has anyone done this?
3. Hi Smiley. We also have a place near Lavelanet which we visit every school holiday. Where are you exactly? Our house is in a little hamlet outside Lavelanet. Helen Kyffin
4. We still have a few more items to take down to Lavelanet that are too big for the plane journey. A few small boxes and some paintings. We live in West Sussex. If anyone has some space please contact us. Helen
5. Renovations on our house are now over 6 months behind schedule due to builders who are only prepared to work a few days at a time and then go off to another property. At the time we thought that it would be  a good idea to let our architect to do the project managing but the costs because of the delays are getting out of control. We bought the house three years ago and the amount of work to do was not massive. The architect's fees have trebled from his original estimate and this is mainly down to telephone calls, e mails and letter writing to the artisans. Does anyone have any advice on what we could do to speed up the completion without it costing us a fortune?
6. We would like to buy and have installed a villager wodburning stove in our house in the Ariege. Does anyone know the best way to go about this?
7. We are just coming to the end of the first phase of renovating our house/barn near Lavelanet and were wondering if anyone else in the area is doing something similar? We will be going out again on the 5th April and would like to meet up to share ideas etc.
8. What a great day. Were you moved by the National Anthem? I was. When are they playing France. We are off to the Ariege next week and usually watch an International at this time of the Year.
9. We have a house near Lavelanet and usually ski in Ax but would like to visit Pas de la Casa next week when we are out there. Does anyone know if we can get a train from Foix to Pas. We have a car out there but don't fancy the mountain roads in February. Also does anyone else live near Lavelanet?
10. We read about them after making some enquires on the internet. I don't think that they are like death watch beetles but they do create large holes in the timber.
11. Has anyone been ski-ing in Ax les Thermes recently? What are the conditions like?
12. We discovered that we had the capricorn beetle in the roof of our house and barn and at first were told that they were treatable. Unfortunatley this was not the case and we have had to have the whole roof replaced. We were very disappointed at first but the macon has done an excellent job on the new roof. We now have enough wood to keep us going for a few years for our stoves. When we cut the capricorned wood we could see the extent of the damage they caused and it was a sight. We suggest that your macon has a good look at it.
13. We have some wall lights that we want to take to our house in France. They are 6 amps and have three wires. Has anyone done this successfully?  We are waiting for the electrician to come back to us but would be interested to hear if there is a problem with using u.k. lights in france.
14.
We would be interested Will in where that was from and who fitted it as that seems very reasonable Many thanks Ray
Our house is in Lavelanet near to Mirepoix in the Ariege. If you are near I will send you the address but I am sure that he is based in Mirepoix.
15.
Thank you so much, that was all very helpful - particularly the reminder about snow chains.
We have a house near Lavelanet and have ski - ied both at Ax and Mont D'olmes. We love ski - ing in Ax as it has some lovely runs and great montain restaurants. The lifts at Mont are a little difficult and the resort has enough runs for a day. We are loking forward to ski ing there at Christmas.
16.
Hello all We are newcomers, recently moved to Dept 11, nearest towns Mirepoix or Pamiers. I am seeking to make contacts in this area. I have young children who need to make friends, and so do I! S...
I hope that you are enjoying your new life in France. We haven't moved out there yet but get over as often as we can. We have a house near lavelanet just south of Mirepoix which is our favourite town. I will be travelling down on the 16th December for three weeks and will be on my own for the first week after which my husband will join me. If we keep in touch maybe we could meet up for coffee in the Castignolles cafe in mirepoix. Sorry can't help with the children but have asked a friend who lives in Mirepoix if she knows of anywhere.
17. We have recently paid £450 to install a wood burning stove in our house in the Ariege and were wondering whether this was the going rate. We have two more stoves to install in the newly converted barn, one downstairs (kitchen)and one upstairs (sitting room) ( the top one will be directly overhead the downstairs one) but they will use the same outlet on to the roof. There is no chimney there at present. At this price for each one it is going to be an expensive job. Any ideas about the best way to go about this?
18. We have a good concrete floor in our recently renovated kitchen/ dining room and were wondering if anyone has ever polished a concrete floor. We have read about this in a magazine somewhere but cannot find the mag.
19. We would like to buy a Villager wood burning stove for our house in the Ariege. Does anyone know of a supplier?
20. We have recently bought a wood burning stove and are looking for someone going to Mirepoix in the Ariege in the next week or so. We live in Chichester West Sussex.  The stove is quite small (40 cms x 35cms x 70 cms) weight 83 kilos. If not, does anyone have any ideas about the best way to send it?
21. Since buying our house in the Ariege over two years ago we are still looking like a building site and are suffering from not being on hand to push work along. We would like to know if anyone else has had the new "obligatory " light fittings set up in their homes. Apart from the fact that the light is situated on the side of the ceiling attachment we are wondering how light shades are attached. It seems to us that the light will always look lop sided whatever shade we find? We have also had a new fosse septique fitted and at times it absolutely stinks. Could this be something to do with the washing machine?
22. We want to send money out to our french bank account every month but have had no luck in finding a way of doing this. Any ideas?
