  1. Hi,

been a while since I posted, been getting on with life here in France (ye gods, have we ever!).

Anyway I'd like to know if there are any posts anywhere (I have looked but can't see anything, so apologies if double posted), whether anyone has now entered the system of French healthcare after being here 5 years and were still regarded as inactifs?

Having spent many years chatting with our Debs (God bless her) about this I wonder whether something should now be posted on Changes to Healthcare Entitlements if people have now entered the system and how it was done.

  2. Use ours all the time, great for roast joints - fresh or frozen, just put in cooker and set to slow. If you want a glaze just pile it on! Depending on joint size 6-8 hours later, roasted to perfection. Going to use it for sticky spare ribs next week - great recipes on line from America on how they use their slow cookers!
  3. Sounds strange as a title, but having been here for a couple of years, I have the chance to exhibit and sell some of my art/craft work. This has set me thinking, could I register as an Artist/Craft worker (Artiste/Artisan?) to set myself up as an Autoentrepreneur? I was told about the Artiste Libre thing, but not sure if that still exists and whether it would cover my crafts - quilts/ sewing crafts etc. I already have got people wanting to purchase some of my paintings, but would rather see if being an Autoentrepreneur is the way to go.

Also don't know how it might affect any future pensions from the UK. Does anyone have any experience of these questions?

    Many thanks. x

  4. Okay, so this morning turned on tele - watched Midlands news on BBC  - no problems. However now we discover we're watching BBC1 Wales, and when turning on the satellite box to check the channels, BBC1, ITV, C4 and C5 are missing, but I can find C5+1 etc. The satellite box starts at 102 - BBC2, then jumps to 116 - BBC3 etc. Where have these channels suddenly gone to? have tried seaching for new channels, but not there - mind you channel 8010 is - think that's the new BBC i-player channel. We watch via free-sat on sky.

    Any ideas?

  5. Yeh, it's a certified translation. We didn't need one for our change in November, but apparently now in Rochechouart, two months later, they are asking for a translation. I contacted my neighbour (he knows regulations etc) and he says they don't need to change their licence unless they have any driving violations, which they haven't - their problem is they've just discovered their English licence has run out - so might be caught between the devil and the deep blue sea, unless they can get all the translations done. We know somewhere in Limoges near the prefecture - will suggest she e-mails the docs to the person, then pick them up on way to prefecture - will make it easier I think.

    'Article 222-2.

  6. Apparently a new regulation is: asking for legal translations of old English Driving  Licences when you go to exchange your licence for a French one - will be interested to know if this is true and how many people might find this problem will crop up, as friends did today.
  7. Believe it or not - Wallpaper Direct! Went doolally trying to find wallpaper for bedrooms. Tried usual suspects in France, so googled and found this place! Has nearly all known companies, at good prices. Charged just £5.00 delivery and received it within a week.Ended up cheaper than buying in France - and Crown paper at that. You can also change your costs to euros if needed. Laura Ashley will also send their wallpaper over here!

Also New Look - again ordered dress, here within 5 days, and could pay in euros. Apparently they have stores all over Europe. A large selection, great for us living in rural areas.

However now M&S will no longer let us purchase from the Uk site to have delivered to France, so they have lost a customer, will only let you purchase from French site - but useless if paying in pounds, 'cos you can't do that. Being tall, I need to know I can get clothes the right size, have yet to find any local shops selling clothes for my age group and height.

  8. Thougt you'd like this  - added as a ps to these posts. We exchanged our licences in November. Friends went today to the sous-prefecture at Rochechouart to get exchange licences, and were told that they now have to provide a translation for their old English Driving licence! We didn't need to in November. Our friend didn't understand what the lady was saying, so phoned, me, and I spoke with the lady there and she definitely wants a certified translation of their existing licences as well! Anyone else come across this?

  9. Just a little worrying I thought this morning, listening to the BC Breakfast news. They had on a Pension Minister talking about the new pension regulations, released today.

He was talking about the 35 year requirement coming into force to obtain a full pension in future, saying it will be fairer, and then added as a tail ender - 'and it will make sure we pay the pension to those who require it and not to those who no longer live in the country'......

Anone caught the full information about this statement?

  10. Yes, on groups A1 & A, there are the dates of my motorcycle licence tests - full motorcycle etc. But on B - Car it shows the date of passing my test - restrictions on that says 70RU - which I take to mean 70 UK.

However all the others show that I have the licence until 2014 - CDE - which make me 60!, But on restrictions C it says 70RU, 74, then for D it says Restrictions 70RU,75 whilst for E -C it says restrictions 70RU,76 and E-D 70RU, 77. So I take it those are the ages I have restrictions but it is the fact it says on CDE I have to stop driving trucks at 60!

  11. Just a thought - we have exchanged our English driving licences (last November) and on the section 'Restrictions' it shows the age 70 RU (Royame UNI?), or 74,75, 76, 77 - which I presume are our ages. So I have to stop driving a car in France at 70, but I can drive and coach with a trailer until I'm 77! It says Depuis le and the dates then under Jusqu'au it shows my birthdate next year - I'll only be 60!

Can't figure that out - will I have to re-sit my driving test, a medical or what does it mean?

  12. 2010 - I had a row with Peugeot UK along the lines of ' you pay us £100 and we'll give you a photcopy of a CofC'. My reply was that for that amount I want the ruddy original, and why did I need a CofC - are Peugeots imported into the Uk of a poorer quality than the French ones, this being the reason the CofC was needed? This conversation went on along those lines for a few minutes.

After much spluttering I was informed that the cars were not of a poorer quality and that a CofC wuold be required.....

So I went to DREAL in Limoges, and the V5C had under section k?  Type Approval an 'e' number, which the lady put into her computer and upon payment of 65 euros (or there abouts), I was told to go to the Prefecture in 2 weeks to collect my Carte Grise, which we did. So Fffffflllllaaaaarrrrrppppp![:P] Peugeot!

Not sure if the rules have changed since.
