1. Hello Pool Helpies, I have never opened our pool filter to clean it (although I know realise I should do it at the beginning of each season). I'm OK doing this stuff on my own normally but.... I have two questions : What is the correct process to depressurise the system so I can split the ballon and take the filters out to clean thoroughly (I've found a few youtube videos but they only really deal with the splitting of the system after it has been depressurised) ? Do I need to replenish the zeolite stuff (the pool is around 8 years old now) and if so, where do I get it from and how much to I need ? Any help appreciated.
2.

....and now General Rodriguez has found a shed load of money and gold in a barrel at a farm house and wants to give me a cut. You wait for ages for one scam to come along and then look what happens.
How come you have all the luck ? I haven't won a Nigerian Lottery in years and I could do with some cash. Sue
Do London buses come in two's or three's ? or is that a bad simile I got another one tonight, this one from Libya - there does seem to be an awful lot of gold bars being punted about...Maybe I changed my Skype status to "mug - please scam me" when I wasn't thinking. I should offer 72 virgins for a swap for the gold and to save himself before IS get to him Dear Friend It was very nice coming in contact with you  I know that the content of this message will sound odd to you when reading but I wish to confirm in all honestly that everything you are about to read is truth. While on an official duty in Libya in 2011 during the unrest in Libya against the former ruler Colonel Muammar Gaddafi, in the house of his defence minister Abu Bakr Yunis Jabr, Myself and another officer cameacross some fortune (funds) and Gold bars loaded in cases. Due to delicate nature of the country during the war, we were very careful but still did a little to secure some of the money for myself and some Gold bars, then on one of my trip to a West African nation Ghana for an official duty, I managed to move this money and Gold bars to Ghana which I later deposited with a security firm and declared the contents as family treasure meant to be transferred to a family friend, though I never gave any name or contact of intended recipient. About a week ago, I got an email message from the security company, informing me that the deposited boxes will be confiscated and declared unclaimed deposit and surrendered to the security treasury if they did not hear from me before the end of this month and as things stands now, I cannot abandon my duty here in Syria, hence I started to search for a trustworthy person whom I can communicate with this info and the person can work with me for the release of the boxes containing the fund and Gold and transfer them to your country after which I shall join you when am free from duty bit I wouldn't like to transfer them to USA, not at all, it must be another country. I will give more details on the amount in the box and the quantity of the Gold when you reply with interest. please contact me with this Email ( [email protected] ) Best Regards Patrick M. Walsh
3. ....and now General Rodriguez has found a shed load of money and gold in a barrel at a farm house and wants to give me a cut. You wait for ages for one scam to come along and then look what happens. Actually, I might have some fun with this one, lets see how much the Nigerian lads know about Afghanistan     Enter a message to introduce yourself.Dear trusted friend, With due respect to you and your entire family over there, I hope it’s well with you and your family and am wishing your family good health. My names are General David Rodriguez. a United State Army General presently serves here in Afghanistan as the current Commander,International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) and Commander, U.S. Forces Afghanistan. I am in desperate need of your assistance, I have summed up courage to contact you as my Brother, friend,I am seeking your assistance to move the sum of (USD$ 22.7 Million)Twenty Two Million seven Hundred Thousand United States Dollars,to you as far as you will assured me that my share will be safe in your care until I complete my service here in Afghanistan. This is no stolen money and there is no danger involved. Some money in various currencies was discovered in barrel at a farm house in during the presidential general election at the Taliban strong hold during a rescuer operation in the election attack and it was agreed by staff Sgt. Kenneth Buff and I that some part of this money and gold be shared among us before informing anyone about the discovery, this was quite illegal thing to do but I tell you what. No compensation will make it up for the risk we have taken our lives in this hell whole of which my brother in-law was killed by a road side bomb last week. The above figure was given me as my share, but to handle this kind of money here became a problem for me, so with the help of a British contact working here and his office enjoys some immunity I was able to move the money to a security company in the United Kingdom as a diplomatic consignment. They are waiting for me to provide the name of the end receiver who they will deliver the parcel to, as a soldier I cannot present myself as the direct owner of this funds because it against our code of conduct, we are not allowed to do business and the US Government is planting a close watch on all military personnel that is why I need you to help
4.

I'm sure the Beeb can find something equally rubbish to put on it's place.
They may have used up all the available rubbish.
Good... maybe they will put Lucy Worsley re-runs on then. That would brighten up Sunday evening no end
5. Enter a message to introduce yourself.  Dear Friend, I am Dr. Frank Lehman, the chairman of the contract-awarding (ECOWAS). I am making this contact with you based on the committee need for an individual/ company who is willing to assist me with a solution to a money transfer. This amount $23.5M (Twenty Three Million Five hundred thousand United States Dollars) represents the balance of the total contract value executed on behalf of ECOWAS for supply of hospital equipment from foreign contracting firm, which we the officials over-invoiced deliberately, of which the actual sum has been paid. You will be required to. (1) Assist in the transfer of the said funds (2) Advise on lucrative areas for investment Should you be willing to assist us in this transaction? Your share of the sum will be 30% of the $23.5 Million, 65% for us and 5% for taxation and miscellaneous expenses. To enable us commence, you should provide your phone number for immediate kickoff of this deal if it interests you.my private email:([email protected]) Waiting for your positive response.   What do you reckon? 30% of 23.5 USD is around 6.5million EUR - but I guess I would have to give a load in Tax to the French government so maybe it isn't as good a deal as it looks
6. I'm with Idun on this one. There isn't much to laugh at on TV anymore but Clarkson on Top Gear was one thing worth tuning in for, at least only to laugh at him, rather than with him. I guess it's like any TV programme, if you don't want to watch it, no one is forcing you to (apologise if you do have a slave meister that chaines you in front of BBC2 every Sunday evening). If you don't like it and don't watch it then it's not that much of an issue if it's not on is it ?   I'm sure the Beeb can find something equally rubbish to put on it's place.
7. Our neighbours in the farm over the wood have a big boiler (Polish I believe considering they asked if we could translate the instructions) that powers two large houses. They powered it with peach stones last year and this year it's olive stones. We are close to Spain so I guess the delivery costs are smaller than living up north but I like the alternative thinking involved.
8. Can I ask a stupid question ? Why is it necessary to have a 2nd dish, surely the 1st one could be punted into the correct direction. Even if the astra 2 (uk freeview) stuff is wanted as well, there are LNB brackets you can buy to point to multi-satellites
9. Just a note....and I feel such an idiot. I bought some flights from the EasyJet site using a UK VISA card (we are flying back to the UK in March).  I've just checked my statement and there is a currency transaction charge.  What I didn't realise at the time was that the "currency" selection was selected as Euro and not GBP, so when I bought them, they were in €'s and consequently not only got stiffed on the €->GBP rate, but also a 2.5% transaction fee. If I had changed the currency selection, then I wouldn't have lost (I think) 20quid. I'm fairly tech savvy, and also buy maybe 25-30 return flights and train journeys a year. And I still got it wrong...and made me want to kick something around the office.
10. Yes they can but if it's something legit then don't worry yourself. Anything over 12K (i think but that limit may have been reduced now) is automatically queried but if you have something into your account that is "not normal" they can query it. Just think yourself lucky that you don't have a UK visa card. Every time I use it to top-up my mobile it gets flagged as a fraudulent transaction and the card is blocked. It takes 30-60minutes to unblock it.
11. Hi Sparks The French really don't do carpets. They mostly prefer tiles and wood/parquet stuff. If you can do tiling you might make a living out of it but there are plenty of "carrelagistes" so you will have to market yourself aggressively
12. 01/01/1970 emails normally mean the email was sent with no Date information in the header. Which bit of software are you using to look at the email ? PC or phone/tablet. Did you receive anymore with the duff date or just the EDF one It could be a server problem as well - normally these things just sort themselves out. You could look at the header information in the email to see what was sent, but to be honest, life is too short.
13. I assume you are on a PC - as it's more difficult from a Phone In the menu option, under File there will be a Print option Or press CTRL and P at the same time Or select the little printer icon Make sure you have a printer connected or it will whinge at you
14. you might find interesting information here or you might want to try and get in touch with the people here Dog grooming they wanted to do the same thing (the thread is a bit old now)   failing that, search for Toilettage Chiens as there are lots of forums out there with people doing the same thing (although it's all in French)
15. I've revised my original answer, it may be an immature male ... but then again some would argue that all males are immature (and long may it last !)
16. Just a thought...as I've not tried this with those companies that deliver ovens, but could you arrange your own delivery? there are companies that will pick up and arrange deliver in France. I've used them for car parts and they normally give the same answer "we can't deliver to france" but they allow a pickup and it works reasonably well. As long as you're willing to hold your breath for a week whilst the tracking stops at the channel...but no fear...a small white van does finally turn up with your stuff
17. Don't You can send me a PM if you want me to expand on that
18. I started with Fortan IV and Pascal with a little COBOL and then ADA (remember that ?)  Still...it still pays the bills (just)
19. My PC has a QWERTZ keyboard... but you can change it to any language keyboard you want - just that the keys don't change - however I was thinking of physically swapping the Z and Y over As for mePads and Android devices, you can switch to whatever language keyboard you want
20. They had 20cm in Tarbes this morning enough to keep the kids at home as the school buses weren't running. The ski resort up at La Mongie has been shut the last couple of days as they had >1m of snow, the roads are blocked and the ski stations need digging out, there is also a very high avalanche warning. It's good news for the rest of the season though as there will be snow now until April
21. off topic a little but still new build There has been a story in the press recently about an estate of 60+ houses recently finished near us. A little later someone needed some remedial work doing and had to chop out part of a pillar - all the houses had some sort of mezzanine floor supported by (supposed steel) pillars. It turns out the "supports" were just accro props and then boarded in.  Apparently, all the houses are having to be demolished at the owners expense as the builder has gone t^^" up caveat emptor
22. one of the problems of fitting something that requires gluing is that it has to combat the heat and high UV dosage we get dahn sarf chicken wire may be a cheap alternative that lasts - not very aesthetic but will do the job   or you could try this stuff
23. Isn't there a law coming into effect on Jan 1st making it illegal to employ someone for less than 24hrs a week ? I think there are exceptions if you are under 26 years old   friends of no1 son have a shop over in Biarritz, they are open two months in the summer and that earns them enough to spend the other 10months of the year doing naff all...except driving around in his & hers mercs. It seems it depends on what you do and where
