  1. Have used AOL for years and find it great. Far less trouble than the others! Have you a French version? If so then you need a French/English dictionary, or a helpful French speaking friend. My AOLs are not French. And I have version 8. To change password is relatively simple for the English/US version. At the top left of your AOL screen, is a HELP option. click on it and read. There is an option for searching AOL Help. J
  2. Dear Belinda; So very sorry about your lovely pet's demise. Dreadfully sad and I feel for you. Julia
  3. Has anyone any information about the Quimper Festival usually held in August? Thank you, Julia
  4. LAST EDITED ON 02-Aug-04 AT 10:50 PM (BST) Hello; I would almost bet that when you 'come over' no one on the French side will bat an eye! They may ask you if you are travelling with pets - on the British side, and that will be it. From memory, I believe the British side checked the cats microchips. J, who came with two cats, and goldfish
  5. Must report that my tomatoes are just great, so are the miniscule beets, and the tiny potatoes. However, I have decided after much soul-searching to quit the ruddy garden and let it go to pot next year. Will buy the stuff in the market, cheaper in the long run! But I wish the rest of you the best of luck, and someday when the soil we land on isn't full of slate and stone, and doesn't need a pickaxe to dig it, we may have a small plot again. Need an allotment. Thank you guys for your advice and cheer. But for now I've tried it! Julia
  6. Coco; Tell them that unless you receive the deposit via priority mail or DHL, fed ex whatever, the reservation is not going to be honored. Stuff them, you don't need that rudeness. Julia
  7. If it's any consolation, mine too have had children! Julia
  8. Isn't there anyone who needs two kittens (or one). They are such pleasant little things and I hate to let them die at the vets. Julia
  9. been suffering from bronchitis/allergies to a great extent. I've been almost dead on my feet for over two months - and still have to shake the 'allergies'. It has been suggested that the problem is the type of trees. Would very much like to hear from anyone else with similar problems. Have had two lots of antibiotic (bronchitis seems to have cleared up), and now am on two types of spray for the allergy. Have had tests in the USA and the only items to which I am allergic are cigarette smoke and some type of pollen (dunno what). I hate to move but if this is a health problem, off to the coast we go. I'd love some input before we start to hunt. Julia in hope
  10. Hello; At the rate everyone is moving to France, they really need some good mousers as they'll discover - and also cats are great people. Best of luck to both of us - I have four indoors, one tatty outdoor stray and two kittens who need homes. Found the poor little things sleeping on the car engine yesterday. Something made me look! Julia
  11. Isn't there one soul who can give the kittens a home? One male and one female. I'm trying other avenues, but as all of you have been so great homing other orphans I had hoped... Julia
  12. Oh dear, not an angel in sight. Even tried the vet, no go. The kittens are a male and female and very delightful. Julia
  13. LAST EDITED ON 19-Jul-04 AT 11:42 PM (BST) Welcome to France. I think despite the invitation from the Leader of Israel, you will enjoy France more. A holiday home for the present will give you the opportunity to assess the situation, though we've never encountered any anti-semitic comments, or literature. We live in Brittany in the country, and the most trouble we've encountered was a chap who backed his car into our ditch, and later someone in a car that dumped two kittens in the garden. Julia
  14. For two days we've been visited by two delightful tabby kittens. I fed them! They arrived about six in the evening and we hoped they belonged to a new family up the lane. Alas not so, our neighbour visited us this evening and as I suspected, the kittens were dumped in our yard by a car - neighbour heard it! The kittens were zipping through the fence to her garden - she has three cats so can't take more. Don't want the little things to go to the SPA, or to the land of euthanasia for cats. We have four inside cats, and are already feeding another poor cat outside. Can anyone please give the kittens a home. They are very sweet and are causing havoc in my plant pots! We live near Redon and will gladly deliver. Julia

  16. Could you, would you, keep me posted as to the date and how to find the lake where the book swap will take place. Thank you, from Julia
  17. Having now viewed an inordinate number of 'Get a New Life', 'Live the Life of Riley in Spain, Cyprus, Italy and on', I noted much traditional British fare consumed, in particular for breakfast. One establishment, in a recent TV series is a British Pie Shop in Cyprus. (I ran out of books until we made a trip to Jersey). All these programs seem to have British eating British food, for example; 'The Big Breakfast'. Grief, I can imagine the words of the 'holier than thous' if a British Pie Shop were to appear in Redon! Is it only in France that 'we' have difficulty locating and buying locally the delicate and delightful fare of sausage, bacon, cheddar (not the grotty stuff at Le Clerc), mange tout, and gammon? I must say on the trip to Jersey (many French making the day trip) as I wandered round Marks and Spencer food hall filling the cart, I heard many French ladies muttering 'Marvellous' and other compliments, in French of course. Ghastly dishcloths (Gallettes) and tripe sausage are not my type of treat, nor do we care for the 'mystery meat' laid out in several of the local 'salad bars', or the gristly stuff served up at the local Musicale with rock hard potatoes, and would much prefer a good old banger, some ruddy decent bacon, nice aged cheddar, and decent biscuits (French cookies are the worst ever). I'm sure some sanctimonious twit will ask, why come to France if you don't want to eat the local swill (we don't drink to excess to dull the senses). Eat dishcloths all you like, just don't ask me to munch the things. Other half and I are beginning to wonder where all the great French cuisine is. From living in Germany, must say German food far surpasses most of what is available here. And on a last moaning note, the ruddy summering Brits have bought out all my Alpen cereal from Le Clerc! Julia
  18. Fed up with gardening. Lettuce gone to seed, potatoes haven't shown a flower, and the leaves are beginning to go yellow, picked off two small black and white beetles (potato beetles?). Beets are looking a little off, green onions are a dead loss I have four coming up. Many tomatoes on the vines and the flowers are doing great. The melons have flowers though! The sage is appearing too!I just ain't cut out for self-sustenance. I've flooded the moles out yet again! Julia
  19. Washy; You are a saint! I'll have a word with the Pope. Best of luck, I'm sure as good hearted as this lot on the LFrance forum are the cats will have good homes. Er...why did the people not take the cats, there is no quarantine in the USA? Julia who already has four and is working on the outside cat to make five
  20. Annabelle; As suggested, take the kittens to the vet ASAP. They most likely have worms, and maybe other parasites - from drinking dirty water rotten food/whatever. They are lucky to have you! We have four cats, and one outside 'dumped' cat - wormed and treated with frontline, but needs to be castrated. Julia
  21. Stick the cuttings in a plastic baggie with a few drops of water - make sure the bag doesn't leak! Then pot the things up soon as possible. Julia
  22. 'Can anyone tell me where Emmaus is in St Brieuc?' Emmaus is difficult to find in St. Brieuc, we went with Kris and Eric who know the way! Best I can suggest is to go online and download the appropriate map - then use your road map in conjuction with that. I think the Emmaus site gives maps and locations for all the places in France. Emmaus is down in the valley from what I remember. There is an Emmaus in Rennes - Hede, might be easier to find. Julia with not a great deal of help!
  23. LAST EDITED ON 17-Jun-04 AT 12:44 PM (BST) Thank you everyone. Was possible lack of water - the lettuce type was the soft many leafed type. I think I'll give up on lettuce this year! Veg patch is in full sun with no shade! Most of the garden is full sun! Now to plant my anti-mole seeds! Oh I hate iceberg lettuce - reminds me of the tasteless stuff in the USA. Julia
  24. LAST EDITED ON 15-Jun-04 AT 10:59 PM (BST) Hi; Should not have a problem - just make sure the shots are current and to be safe get a letter stating the health of the cats. We have friends who fly back and forth with their dog often! Be aware that some airlines are more pet friendly than others - Britair is pretty good. Send/take the cats in the winter months, summer is hellish in the hold! The airlines should have some information about what is required. NO quarantine scam in the USA, vet bills are high but not as grim as the UK. Julia

Helen; We got ours from Noz for a very good price. Probably all gone by now though. We even built an arbour with the stuff. Julia
