1. We have the electronic repellents in almost all the rooms in our house, they have definitely helped but I decided we must have some deaf mice and bats as we still see small amounts evidence of them each time we arrive, generally in corners where the sound waves probably haven't reached. We even saw a mouse this time but could tell where it came from - a hole in the corner of the floor - so that quickly got filled and we didn't see it again for the next four weeks. Our repellents came from this place - http://www.pestcontrolshop.co.uk/acatalog/mice.html
2. Thanks, I suspect you are right about DHL/TNT/UPS etc. Your forecast is only partly correct - I think she wants Dad to do the homework (apparently I have better internet access) and then pay!
3. Can anyone recommend a courier service within France? My daughter has been in the Alps for the ski season and is returning to the UK in early May, We are in France next week but as we are in Brittany it is quite a long way for us to travel to help but thought it may be cheaper to get a courier to deliver her excess baggage to us in Brittany rather than getting it sent back to the UK so any recommendations would be welcome. Obviously we can try someone like DHL but they tend to be expensive when you don't have an account.
4. If you want the absolute best fittings you probably need to go to Swagelok - http://www.swagelok.com/search/find_products_home.aspx?SEARCH=/search/Straights/id-10002045/type-1&item=20b6dcb5-5a04-42f1-9df7-a5d3fd3672c3 - they are somewhat overengineered for domestic use but your tube will burst under pressure before the fitting gives way!
5.

The ads I am talking about appear when in the main home page of the forum - http://www.completefrance.com/cs/forums
Nope, not a single add for me there, just the 'Brought to you by French Property News titles etc. on the top left and the Welcome back plus menu links on the top right [;-)] PS: Nothing wrong with your quoting that I can see [geek]
The quote was all over the place with lots of html code in it when I posted, but looks fine to me now. Very strange!
6.
Analysing for keywords for targetted advertising was an up front published feature of Gmail at it's inception. I use Yahoo but pay £11 PA for no ads and I get none nor any spam from them.
It works in just the same way as the ads which are on the right hand side of this forum when in the main listing
I don't know what ads you are talking about, nothing on my screen, perhaps it's due to Firefox and Adblock+ [;-)] I rarely take any notice of ads on websites such as Google for instance. If there does happen to be something I am interested in I still don't click the ad but instead copy and paste the direct link which is usually under it. Incidentally, every page on this site links to Google analytics and Omniture, a usage tracker, and stores related cookies on your system. Note that is your system not mine as I don't allow them.
The ads I am talking about appear when in the main home page of the forum - http://www.completefrance.com/cs/forums/ I am quite happy to receive these ads, if some people click on them it generates an income for the site owners and means they are less likely to need to charge for the forum and can keep it maintained. Whether or not I click depends upon the relevance of the adverts, and the relevance depends upon how much is known about my previous browsing history. It costs me nothing so I don't mind. I am a marketer though, so always interested to see how others promote themselves! Mind you, if the site owners would spend some of the income on sorting out the quote facility I would be grateful, or maybe more people need to actually allow the ads and use them so they do generate some income :) This looks fine in preview, and then posts as it is above!
7. Google don't send junk mail though. They do use the content of emails to put adverts which relate to the content of the email next to the message you are reading whilst looking at it in Gmail, but that is all. You don't even have to look at the ads so not something I have a problem with for such a useful email service. It works in just the same way as the ads which are on the right hand side of this forum when in the main listing - clicking on the ads (which are relevant to the content) is what pays for the upkeep of the site. In Gmail clicking on the ads pays for the free email. You don't have to but as long as someone does then Google make money and keep delivering the service.
8. Just thought I would update, we have decided not to take the dog - sods law states that the one time we would be stopped on entering France would be this time so we have found him a home for the week and will leave him in the UK. Bet we don't get stopped now!
9. Thanks for all the replies. In answer to Idun, unfortunately the vet didn't send a reminder and we missed the date by less than a week, but it is still a break (as an aside I can't really see that there is an issue with the vaccine in that it stops working suddenly after 1095 days, or 1096 if there is a leap year in the 3 year period). Defra said that it is not possible to take the dog out until after the 21 day period when I rang but we are pretty sure that didn't apply when we first had the chip and vaccine and the 6 month rule applied. The vet, when giving the injection said that the dog was clear to leave the country immediately. Eurotunnel have said that they don't check at all when leaving the country but it is possible that someone from Defra would. I think we might just have to take a chance that we won't be stopped on the way out and then no one will be any the wiser about it, provided the authorities haven't read this thread!
10. Thanks Judie, that was my understanding but it is nice to have confirmation. DEFRA seemed to imply that the dog wouldn't be allowed out, but I don't see why that would be anything to do with them.
11. We stupidly forgot to get the rabies booster for our dog before the previous one ran out which means that he has not had valid cover for the last two weeks. With the revised rules we have to wait 21 days before we can bring him back into the UK from the date of vaccination (today) but just wanting to check if anyone has experience of the French expecting the same 21 day period for dogs visiting there. Our plan was to go to France on February 12th which is only 19 days from now, returning a week later so we are clear for coming back to the UK with no problem. Having never been checked on the way in to France there is a high chance no one would notice, but we don't want to get turned away so any advice/experience appreciated.
12. The metal product I used is this one - http://www.bricodepot.fr/lorient/node/467609 - although I didn't get it from BricoDepot and got slate colour to match the original tile colour. Thanks for the comments about the quotes, I use Google Chrome browser so maybe that is why they haven't worked. Next time I want to quote I had better try to remember how Internet Explorer works!!
13. Sorry, not sure what is happening with the quotes there, they look fine in preview. It must be an incredibly short time period in which you can delete a post, I'll ask a mod to help!
14.

I replaced one side of our barn roof with the metal sheets last summer and will be doing the other side this year.
You have fitted "corrugated iron sheets" the OP was enquiring about the fibre-ciment type with special colour effect (asked question on another forum to which I have replied based on our own experience). Using corrugated iron sheets makes the house look like a cow shed. That's what a barn is but I wouldn't recommend it on a lived in house.
What I have fitted doesn't fit with the classic "corrugated iron sheets" style as I would think of that, the roof I have now was referred to as "bac acier" by the builders merchant. And I added my comments based on the OP saying it was for a "stone barn" and the "or even steel." section of his post. Tiles would be preferable, I like the corrugated sheet which looks like clay tiles posted above, but our roof was slate so slate coloured metal is OK for me, and the local planners.
15. I replaced one side of our barn roof with the metal sheets last summer and will be doing the other side this year. I costed various alternatives and whilst not the cheapest, overall it seemed to represent the best deal as hopefully it will last for a long time with no worries about leaks or anything, but come the time when I can do what I would like with the barn the metal will hopefully be usable for other things. No real problems fitting it other than getting the joist reasonably level where it was fixing as there wasn't much bend in it, and also getting the first one in line correctly (which I didn't quite manage). The one job I haven't completed on the first side is putting the fixings in on the overlap of the sheets, I couldn't reach from one side to the overlap and the metal ladder I have didn't sit between the ridges of the roof so I don't want to scratch it - I will make a wooden ladder to fit and use that this year. Seems to have worked well and I have no worries about doing the second side other than it being roadside and I am concerned about having a 4.5m metal sheet unfixed as trucks go past so timing will be critical!
