  1. Have a look at emmaus.org.uk which lists all the Emmaus branches in England. Angela (the 83 one)
  2. Over the years I've seen several amusing translations on English-version menus in foreign countries. Yesterday I had lunch in Avignon. The restaurant was offering a salad featuring 'Believed Ham'. Yes, that's right, 'Jambon Cru'! Anybody else seen any amusing mis-translations on menus? Angela (the 83 one)
  3. In Le Petit Robert, under 'conserve', there is an entry 'La musique en conserve' defined as 'enregistrée'. So in the context of the pianist devoting himself to studio work only, the translation could be '.....the first of a generation of recording artists'. Well, that's my idea! I hope it helps your friend. Groetjes, Angela
  4. Thank you Angela and Sue, You've just made my day! It's so simple and it works! Like me! Bonne année to everyone. It's a lovely day down here in 83. Groetjes, Angela
  5. Hi Angela, Thanks for your reply, I've just had a week in England and had hoped the problem might have solved itself in my absence. No such luck. Today I was trying to register for on-line statements from France Telecom and had a very frustrating time clicking on non-responding links. They had actually given their users the copy/paste option should clicking on 'cliquez ici' not work. So I can't be the only one with this problem! Then I saw your reply. I've looked in 'Settings', 'Programs' etc., but can't find a likely suspect to delete. Any more ideas would be welcome, as I feel I'm getting there. Slowly. Groetjes, Angela (locally known as Angèle)
  6. Thanks for your various thoughts and suggestions. It mended itself for a couple of days and then went off again, so I think it's probably something to do with security levels. Prettige Feestdagen, Angela
  7. I'm only trying to click on links from known websites, like KLM or easyJet. My son and daughter often send me interesting links if I ask them for information or opinions and I can't activate anything. It's very frustrating. Is there anyone out there with any idea of a setting I might have inadvertently changed, for example. Yours hopefully, Angela
  8. For the past couple of weeks I've been unable to activate links that senders have inserted in their e-mails. I double click, get a slight on-screen reaction, and then nothing. This is very frustrating when commercial sites are referring you to information that you can't then access, or friends want you to look at something interesting. Many of the commercial sites have become user-friendly and replaced www-type links with a descriptive phrase. This makes it impossible to copy the link! Can someone help me to get this function back please. Groetjes, Angela
  9. I have recently been diagnosed with a lactose intolerance, so should totally avoid all dairy products. The other bad news is a wheat and gluten intolerance, but to a lesser degree. That doesn't leave much to eat! I know that you can buy wheat-free pasta products in Britain, but has anyone out there ever seen any in France? If anybody has any information about how to deal with this double curse in the land of lovely cheeses and crusty bread than I'd love to hear from them please! Meanwhile I'm eating lots of rice, fish, fruit and vegetables and getting slimmer than I've been for nearly forty years, so it's not all bad. Just feels bad. Groetjes, Angela
  10. Hi Pam, We live south of the A8 motorway but often go north of it to visit places like Montauroux, Fayence, Seillans, etc. They are all very picturesque hill-top towns as someone else has already mentioned. You could also try Bargemon. After all, if it's good enough for Mr and Mrs Beckham.... We live in a village of about 2000 souls, and even though it's not exactly a hive of activity itself, it is very handy for reaching all the things you require. AND we have ADSL! We do have a policeman, but his main duty seems to be lollypop man. Your wish-list also made me wonder if you'd had a look at Antibes, which is very interesting and somewhere we plan to move to when we are old and grey. Plenty to do without leaving the town and, judging by the notices in the English Bookshop, a good place to make international contacts. Yes, I know you wanted a couple of acres, but maybe you could find somewhere on the outskirts of Antibes. Good luck with your search. Angela
