1. https://www.youtube.com/embed/iDpPStPlU0w There are lots of you out there [6]
2. Good luck from me too Sprog. I know just how stressful the move is and you have all the sympathy I can spare!! As for 'a dump' Well, any place is what you make it and if you think dump then that's what you get. I spent 1 1/2 very happy years in Singapore in the late 60s and came back with almost nowt in the bank. I also know a lot of ??? that came back with several thousand ££ in the bank from what they saved by having a miserable penny pinching time there. They hated it, I loved it. They too said it was a dump. Who were the losers, not me I can assure you and from my 13 years in the Aude it is anything but a dump! How can you tell anyone else that it's madness to do anything GAM if you have no idea as to why they are doing it. Generalizations are always wrong.. I for one am probably as mad as a hatter, but I try not to be stupid and we decided that it was time for us to move back. In that case it would have been beyond madness for us to stay and we are happy with our decision.
3. We are renting for a year at the mo, but if the chance came up to buy the place we are in then I think we would jump at it. Not quite the 8 bed, 7 bathroom place just down the road, but probably would not carry a 7.75 mill price tag either [:-))] Europe ??[8-)] Oh yes, I remeber that town? I t's south of here init [blink] All I need now is a bit of workshop space and I can get back to butchering wood [geek]
4. Ta for all of the good wishes folks. It was far more stressful moving back than over I have to admit. Not helped by the stupid things like having a SPANCing, passing the devis and information over to the buyers to find out that the compulsory replacement of the fosse is at the discretion of the buyers and being told that it's working fine to boot! As the French would say 'say-la-veeee' init? We just hope that the house prices don't rocket if the Royals decide to move in??? [:-))]
5. I was going to opt for The Eagle Has Landed, but this was a bit smaller  :-? We are now ensconced in our bungalow in North Wilts after what seems to have been a very long move! The physical bit was when the movers arrived on the morning of the 14th Nov at 08.00. From then on it was duck or get stuffed on the waggon. They loaded up 2 big Trannies ready to put the stuff on the big 26 ton truch that was supposed to arrive Tuesday lunch time, but was delayed and arrived 08.00 Wednesday morning. They had finished loading by 12.30 and after we had done a quick final clean we were away by just after 3. An overnight stop at Chateaureux and into Ouistraham by lunch Thursday for the 16.30 ferry. Overnight in a pub just outside Southampton and into collect the keys in Malmesbury by 11.30, totally knackered! I think that the icing on the cake of the drive up was the fog almost all the way from Chateaureax to Cean? Just as well I had the TomTom to tell me where the bends were  [:-))] We are now trying to get our feet back underneath us and unpack some of the boxes. It's quite fun (?) trying to sort out what is in which box? And that's going by the fairly good packing list we have done? When we get fed up with that there's a very good pub in the village that has a lovely pint of 6X, so all is not lost [B] I have to admit to feeling sad at leaving our lovely home in the Aude, but I also think that it would have been folly to stay for longer? We were going to have to move to somewhere smaller and we both thought that the move back was the best way to finish a lovely chapter in our lives. Now we are opening the next chapter and if it is half as wonderful as the 13 year long French jobbie then we will be very very lucky people. We will be visiting our friends there from time to time and will look forward to that and we are looking forward to welcoming them here and showing them this lovely part of England. Some of our village walking group have already asked if they could come over for some walking?
6. Lady F wrote this one too I like it as much as the first. Some folks think the Maile got his ideas from the Lady?
7. Just have a look at Lady Fortescque, she may well just tip your intrest with her gentle antics? A long time before the flood [kiss]
8. If you want to read a superb book about an ex pat coupke then why not try what must be one of the originals? It's one of my favourit books and I have read it a few times now. Perhaps it was on a long whim Chancer [8-)]
9. I think that I will dump down the sample to my Kindle and have a whimsical read [blink] Then if I like it it will splash out 2 beer tolens and buy it? Just as a matter of interest TP, you ain't getting rid of me that easily mate [6] I still intend to be here or near [:-))] I joined well before we moved to France and I intend staying..

11.
I will break this as gently as I can boys, but the Fuji X series cameras are the best you can buy. More importantly, their glass (lenses) are even better still. And that is what counts.
Is that why all the pro photographers use them [blink] I seem to have heard that somewhere before [8-)] I can only agree with you Richard and that is why I kept my Canon EF-S 18 - 200 lens. My 80D will take either the EF-S or the EF range and if I ever got to the stage where I could afford an EF lens to match the one I have now then I would get it. With the 1.6 crop factor om the EF-S lens mine is the same as an EF 32 - 310mm jobbie which gives me a huge range and at very good quality A spider on the wall paper Spider of the toe by John, on Flickr If they have toes then this is a crop of that photo Spiders toe by John, on Flickr Why would I want a different lens? I am sat whilst I trype this by the way [:)] I have only just found this TP, but it may well be of interest to you It's a bit long but possibly well worth the time to learn some of the tricks and advantages of your new toy. I watched several videos on my new toy jobbie and they opened up a lot of things I would have struggled to find
12.
Mint ...... Two years ago, we bought a VAX Cordless SlimVac which has proved perfectly satisfactory. It doesn’t have a very long battery life (about half an hour) before you need to re-charge it, but for mopping up the odd cobweb, getting rid of that bit of crud on the tiled floor, or sorting out the car, it’s plenty of capacity. It comes with a 67cm extension for high up bits. Snag - it was bought in John Lewis in the UK, but I’m sure that they’re available over here. It’s almost certainly not the best one on the market, but at £50 it does the job fine. I suppose you’d have to reckon on €75-ish over here now.
Blimey G! You got a tiled floor in yer car and need a 2 foot long extention to reach its roof ! WOW! That's some motor [:-))]
13. I really cant' understand why anyone should get in a not about either speling or the odd's of punctuation?. Its  simpel realy: so why worrie about it. If one want's to be worryed about anything then its the way the language is used; not the way its speled me-think's But' hey, thats life init [8-)] I mean if that were to be leaglise then any stops pauses or owt else would be out of the window it would all be one sentence no-one would know nobody would notice no one would be able to read or make sence definately it would confuse if it were in real life it wouldnt be accepted as it's leagal stuff nobody even thinks to notise it really is a silly situation nobody cares [:-))]
14. Well,  you pays yer money and you takes yer choice and if you take the farmed stuff then it's a different choice to us.. After all you ain't what you eat, you are what you digest init.. A bit like the difference between raw milk butter and axle grease  [6]
15.
I think that I might try the salmon cake recipe, I have an olive cake recipe that is similar, but this looks better.
I hope that you will use wild salmon in there Idun?? Apart from all the rest it tastes so much better [blink]
16. Last month I upgraded from my 7 year old Canon 500D to the new 80D and it's a cracking bit of kit. I kept my 18  -  200 mm Canon lens as I think it's about as good as they get that I could afford, so it was a part ex. fer me body. I waited until we had a trip back to the U.K. and did the swop at Jessops, Bury St Edmunds and they were very helpful. I won't go into detail about the 80D, it's far better to look at the bells and whistles on the web site, but one of the things I was looking for was time lapse photography and now got it [:-))][8-|] As for the fittings. All you need to do is to search on the bits for your camera, or get into a U.K. shop and they will give you all of the compatibility info. Something that is strange to me is that on my Canon Legria HF-G25 video jobbie the hot shoe mount for a light/mic or any other fitting is an odd size! Normal bits won't fit it. But then again I am not likely to fit owt on it anyway. As for choice, I think that either Canon or Nickon are about as good as they get. That's why all the pros use them.
17. It may well be a bit quicker to buy rather than wait for yours Betty [:-))] If we had been staying I was going to get a bush too, but I doubt they will grow in Blighty? Going back to butter. If you can't beat them then why not join them [blink] Easy init [8-|]
18. Richard, in that article sugar is the 'new' bandit, but 'Pure White and Deadly' came out 30 years back and it's a book abpout just how much of a poison sugar really is. The NHS daily recommendation for Vit C is 40mg/day? "How much vitamin C do I need? Adults (19-64 years) need 40mg of vitamin C a day." "What happens if I take too much vitamin C? Taking large amounts (more than 1,000mg per day) of vitamin C can cause: stomach pain diarrhoea  flatulence  These symptoms should disappear once you stop taking vitamin C supplements." Errr? I take 25 grammes a day and have done so for the past couple of years and I do so without spending all day doubled up and sat on the loo. Why do I take that much? Because I have prostate cancer and that keeps it under a hammer! The above quotes are for the NHS Choices web site, so if I were you I would take a pinch of salt with anything I read from that lot? Goji have been proved to be very effective for all sorts of ailments for centuries, but they aren't top of the pops with big pharma sponsered bunches like the NHS Choices me-thinks? They can't patent then can they?
19. Now yer talkin [geek] Goji berries are fantastic and I get through quite a lot of them!! Very very good ofr the body an soul too!
20. The scientifique way of insuring that you have soft spreadable butter. Stand it in the sun for 5 mins. Hey presto, you can pour it  [:-))][6] SWMBO like the butter hard as nails and I like it soft. Guess who wins [:(] The best thing about butter, especially raw milk stuff, is that it's natural and the body can handle it. With all these 'wonderful' (?) spreads they are so bug-gered about with who knows what the hell you are chucking down your throat? Stork marg [8-)] Good for lubricating heavywieght kit like axles, nowt else me-thinks.
21. We were in one of our Bio supermarkets today and they didn't have any butter at all! We love it and usually get raw milk butter, but not at the mo! So, we wandered across to the great hole called Carrefor for a rare visit to see what they had. Some salted, which we never touch, and just a few packs of 'Doux' which we bought. As for axle grease? No ta. The natural stuff and with raw milk is the best, but where is it?
22.

Couldn't you just put a clothes peg on your nose [:D]
If you want your pronunciation to improve you probably need to listen more. Immerse yourself in the French language through music, TV, radio and films and listen to how words are pronounced then work at repeating the sound.
That's a good idea, but down here a lot still have a VERY strong Oc accent. After all it's the Languadoc, the lang of oc, Occitane and that is a very strong accent that isn't heard a lot of the broadcasts of many stations. We had a hell of a problem with it and when our Maire is talking even the villagers have problems with his accent. At our 'do' last Thursday he took great pains to cut his accent and speed down when he was talking to us. He doesn't normally do that. Here 'demain' becomes something like 'demaigne' and it took us ages to work that simple one out! The 'e' at the end of a word is pronounced very strongly. As for masculine and feminine [8-)][:-))] I'll stick with Wiltshire for now [blink] Thatz were uz iz gona bee fur a wiile init [kiss]
23. Oh dear Wooly, she's talking about French not Garlic! Do trie to keep up [:-))] Have you tried this lot Mint?  http://avf.asso.fr/Website/site/eng_welcome_welcome1.php I think that you have probably heard about them, but if not they are all over France and if they are half as good in your area as they are here in Carcassonne then our lot are twice as good as yours. Errr, sorry, got a bit carried away there [8-)][:$] What I nearly said was that they do language lessons for speech and our lot go up to advanced level. They may be able to help and it's only about 30€ or so a year. They do all sorts of visits too and loads of other things.
24. As I said before Andy, the language has been one of my major difficulties, but without it you loose so very much of the life here. So, what the hell, I have room in my mouth for at least one of my feet most of the time? The one thing that I have failed at is written French? I spent days just writing a few words down time after time after time. Pages of just a few words, but still forgot the spelling. As most know, I suffer the same way in English [8-)]. I have always thought that I could well be slightly dislyxic (oe however you smell ti? [+o(] ) One bit of advise I would give to anyone who, like me, has difficulties speaking French. Don't worry, try what you can, make an attempt and almost all of the French will love you for it. If they are the ones who  don't then they aren't worth worrying about anyway. We used to think that so many of the locals were being alkward when they didn't understand what we were trying to say, but I came to the conclusion that so many don't understand how to work their way around a word and if the pronounsiation is not perfect for the part you are in then they just don't understand it? That is obviously a generalisation and generalisations are always wrong [8-)] ( think about it [6] ) We will take so many lovely memories back with us and will be visiting friends from time to time. We hope that some will come and visit us too so that we can show them whatever special part of England we are in.
