  1. Try ordering a France Modem Adapter and a BT master socket to RJ11 plug tailed from http://www.deltacom.co.uk total cost incl. post about 10. The adapter goes in the french telecom socket & the 'tail' goes in the other end with a socket for UK style plugs. Works fine with all my UK telecom equipment & PC. Hope this helps Jon (44)
  2. Having felt pleased that we didn't have to pay for a Cert of Conformity fom Mitsubishi UK, we went to the Hotel des Impots - no problems received form in a few mins and went off to the SP to get the Carte Grise. Taking Penny's advice we arrived just after luch and were first in the queue filled in name & address etc on Immat. form and handed it over to the helpful young lady who told us to take a seat & we would have our CG in a few minutes. (Thought this could be the quickest application on record). Called back to the counter to be told there is a problem with the VIN no., her computer didn't match up the number with anything!! She helpfully tried many different versions of letters & numbers but no good - said we had to go to the DRIRE to get the to sort it out. Following morning, up early & off to Nantes DRIRE. EXTREMELEY helpful...but the same outcome, even got a tecnichien to come and verify that the numbers on the car, V5 & cert. of conf. all matched, which they did of course. Only solution (of course their computer's not wrong) was to phone Mitsi FR give them all the details and request a new cert. of conf. saying that Mitsi FR would be in touch re FITTING A NEW VIN PLATE WITH THE CORRECT NUMBER (!!) This is obviously something we don't want to have done. Has anyone else re-registered a Pinin and if so would you be kind enough to tell me what the first 6 digits of your VIN no.are, or if you have had similar problems and how you overcame them. Jon (44)
  3. Can anyone shed some light on a problem that a friend of ours has? They have made an offer for a property that they really like privately to the owner. The owner has recently accepted a lower offer through an agent and returned the signed contract (more than 7 days) BUT there are two other parties to the sale (step-children) who have not returned their contracts yet. The agent (who my friend has had no dealings) is threatening legal action against the owner. Can the agent do this? Is he within his rights to withdraw from this other sale with no penalty? Any advice would be much appreciated. Jon (44)

Anyway its not a very important file and shouldn't do much damage if you do open it/act on it. I think it asks you to forward mail everyone you know telling them the same. Just ignore and delete the e mail. Jon (44)
  5. Don't know if it would work, but have you tried the subtitle option while Bob does his stuff? Jon (44)
  6. If you 'Mark All' when you've finised reading the posts and then later return - why do you select 'Read New'? If you 'Mark All', when you return any new posts are automatically highlighted in yellow and all you need to do is click on them. (I may be missing something here - if you select 'Read New' does that ONLY bring up the new 'sub-posts'? - any way I find it easier if all the posts are displayed as then you know what people are referring to, well most of the time) Jon (44)
  7. LAST EDITED ON 01-Nov-03 AT 10:32 PM (GMT) My wife said to me a few months ago - 'Don't renew the sub for LF it's getting boring'. And I have to agree with her unless it changes I WILL NOT RENEW. Having bought and subscribed to the mag since issue 2 (I have every one bar 1 & 3 & in binders - I dread to think how much I've spent over the years). I feel that although we are in the fortunate position to now own a little piece of France and will be there permanently early next year, the mag has turned into a 'table mag' ie a travelogue rather than a mag for those who are buying or have bought. What i mean is if you look at other specialist mags on houses re renovations/self build etc they continually update current trends. LF used to run DIY articles which although only scratched at the surface were interesting. It has been said before that the likes of MAZAN, PUNCH (and how is Judy) et al could write for the mag in much more detail than the staff seem to be able to produce. I for one, although not such a vocivorous poster now, am very grateful for the up to date advice they and others have provided. France is (no pun intended) a minefield in all aspects of life - electrics, plumbing, health, social contribs., etc etc. So come on LF get back to Trevor's roots - the interest that we all all have in owning and for some of us (that have decided that the UK is beyond help) LIVING in France is what we want to do and give us more articles on living our dreams - I know they may well have been covered before but an article 5 or 6 years ago is now out of DATE. 8. If the money is in your UK bank account phone them and ask what their spot price is for a transfer to your French bank (you'll need your IBAN). You'll probably get as good a rate as the currency companies (we actually got a better rate at the time) and at least you know who you're dealing with should anything go amiss. Jon
  9. As I understand it, SWIFT is the method for international electronic transfers and IBAN is your International Bank Account Number (printed on the bottom of a RIB). You need this number to effect a SWIFT or any other electronic transfer. Jon
