  1. Thank you so much for your help!!! Your advice has probably saved me lots of money! I am completely unfamiliar with the french health system. I have not seen an area doctor accept for a brief, mandatory physical for my job and that was 6 months ago. This may sound stupid but what is the best way to find a nearby doctor who could then send me to a cardiologist? Also, being in the education system, I have MGEN insurance on top of the basic insurance provided. I was told that this insurance would cover 100 percent. Is this not true or even possible? Thank you again! I look forward to reading your response!!!! hatfieldmouse
  2. Hello to all! I am an ESL teacher in Limoges and I have been living here for the last 6 months. I am not a citizen although I do have insurance, that covers 100 percent, and a social security card here...this assistantship thing is not quite clear of my status here. Anyways, I just recently found out that my father has Marfan's Syndrome, a genetic heart disorder and I have been strongly advised to get an echocardiogram here to find out if I carry the same heart problem. I cannot wait until I return to the states as I do not have insurance there at the moment and this procedure would cost too much. Can anyone please help me to find a cardiologist in Limoges, or at least how to find one? I am intimidated just to visit the family physician here, let alone a cardiologist. Any information would be SO greatly welcomed! Thank you!! Sincerely, J.T
  3. I will be moving to France in five weeks and I have an IBM and DELL laptop. I am wondering if I will have many problems in France as far as cable connections and electricity compatabilities, which could harm my computer and other electronics. I am aware that I should use adapters but I was curious if there are adapters specifically for computers and if it is worth the trouble. Thanks, Jessica
  4. hello to all! I plan on moving to France from the US and was thinking about bringing certain electronics (such as small tv, computer) and was concerned with the varying adapters needed. Does anyone know if I can even bring these items over, and/or what adapters I need? Also, I want the internet while I am there and didn't know if my computer here would be compatible with the internet there in France? Any suggestions? Thanks so much!
  5. Thanks to all who responded! This information is really helpful for my future stay in France. To answer your question: I am planning on doing a teaching assistantship in France and won't find out the location until this May, however I might be located in Lyons, Grenoble, or Tours. I have been looking a great deal at www.seloger.com for apartments in Lyons and was rather concerned about prices and landlords because, when I find out the location, I have to organize/plan my living arrangements prior to going to France. (And I live in the U.S.) So needlesstosay, I am worried about getting screwed over with charges and possibly a terrible landlord situation. I will be needing an apartment for roughly 7 months, so not too sure what I should be looking for as far as rental agencies and if I can do a 7 month lease or not. Thanks again for all of your advice!
  6. I will be looking to rent an apartment in France soon, and after searching the internet, some sites recommended to go through a rental company (even though they ask for a lot of money up front) rather than going through a private owner. Any suggestions or comments on personal experience or guidance? thanks all
  7. Well, how much is an unfurnished apartment, for around 7 months (if possible), and around the Lyons region. Thanks for responding!
  8. Hello, this is my first time on here and I have posted one forum other than this one, in regards to renting an apartment in France. My biggest question is: What is the average monthly rent for a 2 bedroom apartment, in or around an urban area? Thanks--and if you have any other helpful information for a post-college gal moving to France, please feel free to let me know!
  9. My boyfriend and I are moving to France in the fall for 7 months for English Teaching positions. We are very excited, but nervous because we have to figure out our own living arrangements. I have visited several sites which lists apartments, however I am unsure about what is an average monthly rent for a 2 room, 1 bedroom apartment. We don't want to live too luxuriously, however want to be comfortable. HELP! (We will find out soon where our exact location will be: either Lyons, Tours, or Grenoble) Any advice as to what situations to avoid, how to approach/find a good landlord, what is the average monthly utility bill, what questions should we ask a possible landlord prior to signing papers....HELP HELP HELP!
