  1. Hi Jill, I hope this is not too late but I have only just seen your message. We lived in Mulhouse between 1998 and 1999 and found the Alsace area a superb region with plenty to offer without being over run by tourists. Colmar itself is is a very pretty town with plenty of restaurants a lot of which serve the Alsace speciality of Choucroute. Make sure you're hungry if you order it. Further afield, towards Strasbourg just off the main road there is the Montagne des Singes where they have sectioned off part of the forest to house rescued macaque monkeys who roam free and your wander amongst and feed them popcorn. Be careful of wearing anything bright in your hair though, as they have a habit of stealing things and scampering off up a tree. Not far from here is Eagle Mountain, where they have birds of prey ranging from falcons to buzzards and Golden Eagles. The birds are fabulous and they do a flying display at certain times of the day, which is amazing. A bit further on towards Strasbourg is a small medieval village called Riquewhir, which is closed off to all traffic. It makes a pleasant day out where you cant eat do some wine tasting and then visit the Christmas shop which has everything you could possibly imagine for festive decorations. I could go on forever, but I hope this gives you some ideas and that you enjoy the region as much as we did. Unfortunately we're back in the UK now, but hope to be back in France full time in the not too distant future. Have fun Jem
