  1. We were in the same situation -however for the past 4 years I've had to email them for the bill because they somehow could just not get the fact that the bill had to be sent to my UK address - it kept being sent to the French address. Just email them, they'll email you the bill which can thembe paid online. It's strange because they send the Taxe d'Habitation bill to our UK address, although where it will end up this year I don't know!!
  2. The last time I made Yorkshire puddings with T45 - they came out like cakes - the same happened with T55 - so I gave up. Will make sure I bring a stock of plain flour when I return to France next year.
  3. I had the same problem earlier in the year. EDF/FranceTelcom & the bank no problem - but the others - I give up. I went into the tax office with a typed letter - the Tax Fonciere bill is lost somewhere, the water bill went to the old address & I dread to think where the Taxe d'habitation bill will end up. One thing I found really odd with EDF - you can't email them. I also took a letter into the local Marie.
  4. You could always try bread - OH makes like a paste out of bread. Makes into crumbs then dampens - seems to work.
  5. Thought I'd check my account on line, can't see that we've be charged for statements. So while logged on, I changed from paper to email for statements. It was quite easy to do.
  6. I've been a member for over 5 years. As previous posts, I only book single journeys. Booking online. We use the Caen-Portsmouth route and always night crossings. We find that the dog travels better - it's her normal sleep time. Also we get the benefit of the free breakfast. So far year on year, we have more than saved on annual fee.
  7. My niece has just informed me that she's had a Fish pedicure. Involves putting your feed into water and letting lots of little fishes nibble at the dead skin on your feet. Not for me - I'll still be going to a nice little Chinese lady in Trowbridge when next in the UK.
  8. Sorry can't help. It's in the Charante, near Saintes - so miles away.
  9. Where exactly is this. We're in the Indre,so if it's near to us, I'd do it for you.
  10. Just recently moved house the UK - we contacted our insurers who told us that the change would take place on completion. They did however insure both houses for the completion day at no extra cost. With regard to our French house - the renewal date is the anniversary of the date we signed the Acte and collected the keys. Oddly, I'm meeting with an agent this pm. with regard to changing insurers.
  11. Just thought I'd add my twopenniworth. GSCE French may get you by, shopping etc. but none of the French courses I attended taught about Frenchlife - taxes, how to open a Bank account, dealing with utilities etc. I remember when we first bought our house - while trying to sort out the Taxe d'habitation at the tax office, by an irate office manager, that I was in France so I should speak French - I told him that I was trying my hardest but in my French classes they didn't teach ' old French'. So something to bear in mind.
  12. Just watched this - a much needed laugh for me especially as I've been looking for cheap flights for my grandson to travel from Ireland to the UK for my mum's funeral next week. Gave up - the ferry is cheaper. Must send the link to my son.
  13. Same here - I'm sure one of the dogs had tears in his eyes.
  14. Hi - have you found a dog yet? Just noticed a poodle on Doglinks - it's in Confolens.
  15. Looked at Teleconnect - do you have to pay a monthly fee in addition to the line rental to FT??
  16. When I read the posts on the forun late last night, it lifted my heart to read that Ursa had a new home. Thank you to all who helped.
  17. Thanks Christine - the top picture was taken yesterday and the one below the day we bought her home from the SPA - what a difference a week made. She just loved being combed.
  18. I tried putting one on with my post but wasn't very succesful. However she is now on www.doglinks.com Thanks to every one for their condolences.
  19. Very sad day for me - first my mum passed away and second, despite efforts from Jackie to find a temporary foster home, we had to return URSA to the SPA - we're heartbtroken because she had come on so much in a week, from a timid little thing to a dog who wagged her tail and loved cuddles. Just hope some-one will open their hearts to her. I have sent her details to doglinks.
  20. Same here, so I registered then it stopped coming up. I used to subscribe to online copies but never got round to reading them so didn't do another year. Will wait and see what happens next.
  21. Would do more research and not let the OH heart rule his head. After viewing 9 properties in 4 days, we came by the one we finally bought after taking a wrong turning. Saw the house was for sale, rang the agent and hey presto we bought it.
  22. I know the SPA in Gueret (23) have 4 lovely black puppies - they were taken in on Monday and from the look of them I think they'll be big dogs. Unfortunately don't know the sexes. You could always give Clara a ring on:0555819931
