1. Asking this question on behalf of a friend who has a property which he is renting long term. Current tenants are due to move out in October, but does he have to have a DPE inspection done before the new tenants move in? Jan
2. Our car, the Peugot Partner, has developed a small fuel leak.  Took the car to the garage and he can't find a leak from the bottom of the tank and they think it may be the seal at the top of the tank.  In most cars, you can remove the carpets from the back and there is an inspection hatch for the fuel tank - but not on our car - or not that we can see.  Any clues anyone????  The car is booked in to go  back to the garage tomorrow and looks like it's going to cost an arm and leg because they will have to dismantle the exhaust and remove the tank to see if the leak is at the top. Surely there must be an inspection hatch somewhere. Is there anyone out there who might be able to tell me where else we can look for it before it goes to the garage tomorrow morning. Look forward to your replies. Jan
3. Found on a friends patio - can anyone identify this young bird please.  Has been there two days in a row. Many thanks. Jan
4. B has been very helpful so far and very friendly, so I think I may well do that, and also get the postal pack too.  He has already offered his "hanger" in case we need to store furniture, etc.   Jan
5. Our house is sold and we have signed the Compromis de Vente for a new house about 15 mins away.  Have no problem with notaires or estate agents and the current owners want to sign the Acte Definitif on 10th December - yipeeeeeee. My question - how do I go about notifying the various agencies in France about our move, what information do I need to supply and how much notice do I need to give them?   Is there, anywhere, a standard letter I can send to all the agencies? By agencies I mean, Bank, EDF, Saur (water), Hotel des Impots, house insurance, car insurance, Carte Vitale, France Telecom,, Internet Provider, and can anyone think of anything else as I'm sure I'm missing something. Many thanks. Jan
6. Yes - MK15 was Willen - it was very nice there.  Also lived in Bletchley, Hanslope, Neath Hill, Giffard Park, Little Woolstone, but not in that order.  Now living in Correze (19).  Lots of strike action here as we have a company called Sicam whose employees like marching through our local town of Pompadour whenever there is strike action.   Usually escorted by a very relaxed bunch of gendarmes on horseback and on foot, having a chat with the strikers and smoking a fag.  We've just sold our house and are moving 15 mins up the road to St Bonnet La Riviere.  We've been here six and a bit years now.
7. The Connexion is an English Language newspaper in France.  They also have a decent website.  http://www.connexionfrance.com Oooh - just seen you are from MK18 - we are ex-MK15
8. From the Connexion online two more strikes are set for 28th Octoberv  (national industry-wide strike) and 6th November (day of demonstrations around France).
9. I haven't looked myself, but this website may be quite useful.  http://www.oiseaux.net/index.en
10. Well it's started - the migration of the cranes. Saw the first formation flying over on Tuesday last week, and more formations of various numbers every day since then. Once again - a magnificent sight. Location:  Arnac Pompadour, Correze (19) Have you seen them yet - when and where? Jan
11. Hi again - thanks for sorting out my problems with wifi on a previous thread I'm using Mozilla Thunderbird as my e-mail client.  I currently am using the same address on my old laptop and now the new laptop, but my e-mails are only coming through on the old laptop (with the exception of 3 which made it to my new laptop while the old was was still running. I've matched all the settings in Thunderbird Account Settings, apart from the bit where it says "roaming" on the new laptop (it's in a different file on the old). Would it just be simpler if I changed my e-mail address on the new laptop to avoid any conflict between the two machines, or is there a way round it that I'm missing. Many thanks Jan (The WiFi Idiot)
12. Thanks for the advice.  I know my family history package has a Windows 7 patch, so I'm OK with that one, but wasn't sure about the others.
13. All done now.  Just got to find time to load all my programs now and find out which ones don't work with windows 7.
14. Thank you all for your help.  I had a friend come over today who spent a good hour or so sorting out the problem and I am now connected to the internet on the new laptop - Yippppeeeee. My next question is abour Firefox.  Downloaded and language set as English, but although the tool bar is in English the search field is in French and searches come up mainly in French.  Anyone know how to change the home page search field to English? Warfarin

My husband has been taking Previscan for the last few months and during the initial period of getting his INR to the right level, he was having weekly blood tests and speaking to his doctor about the results.   He is also taking tablets for blood pressure. He has been fine on the tablets and his heart flutters have gone, but last night they were all over the place and his last blood results were 3.9 which is too high. He is off to the docs this morning and hopefully will get another blood sorted out. I just struck me that I know people who take Warfarin are supposed to steer clear of certain foods and wondered if this applied to Previscan too, as he was not told to avoid certain foods when he was given the Previscan.  I've just been reading this forum thread and it seems foods high in vitamin K could counteract the effects of the Previscan.  Any advice on this subject gratefully received. Jan
16. Oh b****r, don't tell me I've mucked it up before I even got a chance to use it.  How about if I restore it to the factory default and start again?
17. I can't even get to the point where it tells me to enter the code.  It seems there is no association between the computer and livebox available on the laptop.  The wireless indicator on the laptop should be green, but it's orange (or red), although it is tells me I have a signal.
18. No - nothing like that.  Just get a  box telling me I've got good excellent signal strength but the computer will not allow connection.
19. The manual says to press fn + f3 to turn wifi on and off - it is currently in the on position and the wifi indicator is orange.  It tells me the connection is available and of excellent strength but will not connect. Have unplugged livebox and replugged it.  Tried again, but no luck, hit the troubleshoot button and it fixed a "problem" but now says "Wanadoo did not allow a connection from this computer".
20. I've just got myself a new laptop and today was going to start loading it up with all the necessary bits I need. I started with my internet connection which is via Wanadoo (or Orange as it is now, but I'm still Wanadoo).   Put the disc in and got as far as connecting the dongle (USB), but the computer won't recognise it. Can I just copy the settings from the connection I have on my old laptop, or do I have to do a complete installation from the Wanadoo Livebox disc (which doesn't seem to want to work. Jan xx
21. I have a favourite leather handbag, which I thought I'd lost, but found it in the barn when I was clearing out for a vide grenier.  Unfortunately after 6 years in the barn, it is smelling a little "musty". Does anyone have any tips, using ordinary household products rather than expensive cleaners, to get rid of the musty smell? Looking forward to your suggestions. Jan xx
22. I don't have a jam thermometer - yet.  Will probably get one though. I will try the rhubarb idea - that sounds good, and I'll have to have a look in our supermarket for some pectin. Thanks for the tips. Jan xx
23. http://www.allotment.org.uk/recipe Great website with loads of ideas for your fruit and veg.  I made the Fresh Plum Cake from this website yesterday, and although it won't get rid of the glut of plums, it tastes delicious. Now, can anyone tell me why my plum jam refuses to set.  This is the fourth time I've ended up with plum syrup (which is good in greek yoghurt or with a bit of duck, but I would actually like to make JAM!!!!   Any suggestions? Jan
24. Please take a look at this website and join the cause. http://www.animalrescuechase.com/ Love Jan
25. Yes, it was Martha's Harbour by All About Eve.  Unfortunately  they were slated after appearing on TOTP because they completely lost it when their soundtrack broke down and it was so obvious they were miming .  However, she has a beautiful voice and this track is one of my favourites along with December and Pearl Fisherman.
