1. These 2 dogs will be coming into the Refuge at the end of the week unless we can find a warm home for them ASAP.  Both dogs belong to a French lady in difficulty... she has been trying to find a home for the 2 together but now she can no longer keep them.

Both dogs are tattooed (Salto - 2BPK 152, Cactus - 2GSR 739) and vaccinated.  Salto is old and fragile now - he will not last long in the Refuge in this weather, poor boy.  If you or someone you know might be able to foster these 2 for a while - please get in touch for more information on how we can help these 2 and our fostering policy (any veterinary bills will be paid for by the Refuge for a fostered dog).  We are hoping to keep them together as they have grown up together and are inseparable.

SALTO (Labrador - 15 years old)

  2. Poor Max is desperate to get out of the Refuge!  He has even hurt his paws on the gate of his run (not seriously fortunately), he is so unhappy to find himself without a loving home.  If you are interested in adopting Max, please get in touch.

Max is 4 years old, he is vaccinated and micro chipped (250 269 500 554 265).  Max was briefly adopted a few days ago, but was promptly returned when the people did not give him enough of a chance to settle with the family cats - something which can be achieved with care and patience!  So he is even more distraught to find himself back in a cage.  He is a friendly dog who just loves people.  He walks well on the lead and is obedient - he just needs some training with a loving family to become a much loved family dog.

  3. Update - Cosmos is due to come back to the Refuge soon unless we can find a better solution as quickly as possible for him!  His foster family can no longer keep him, they are due to travel soon.

If your New Year's resolution is to get active with plenty of dog walking - and you want to help a dog in need... could you give Cosmos a chance?  There is no doubting it is a commitment (as is any dog), as Cosmos is highly intelligent and has not had a great life so far.  He will need plenty of activity, both mentally and physically and to find his place as your number 2 in the command chain!  He is not a dog for the weak willed but will make a wonderful companion with people who understand him.

  4. Happy New Year everyone.   Sorry to say that the New Year brings yet more abandoned dogs to the Refuge in Cahors!

Now, who could offer a forever home to this gorgeous Springer Spaniel x?  The photo does not do Taro justice!  If you love the Springer breed and can offer Taro a loving home right for him - bearing in mind he is an active dog who needs lots of exercise, do please get in touch - quickly as we would love to see Taro find the RIGHT home asap!!

Taro is sociable, full of energy, and is about 2 years old, micro chipped (250 269 500 561 939) and vaccinated (he will be castrated either before leaving the Refuge or by arrangement with a new owner's vet).

  5. Chessie is right Jo.  A good vet will always sedate first.  Also a good vet will not push you into unnecessary treatments, tests to prolong things for the sake of owners - you have to consider your pet's quality of life first and foremost.   Hard as it is, it is often the last kindness for a much loved pet to make the right decision at the right time, knowing that you have shared many wonderful times together.

  7. Fantastic news!!! Tabrouk went off today to be fostered at Twilight - a retirement home for elderly dogs in North Dordogne.  He is one lucky dog as he will get lots of TLC with Leeanne and Mike who do a wonderful job helping elderly, often distressed, dogs.  Thanks so much to them for offering Tabrouk a safe haven.

For those of you who want to know more about Twilight.. this is their site..

Tabrouk still would love to have a forever home, so please do get in touch if you can offer him a home for his senior years!  In the meantime he will be loved and cared for at Twilight.

More news soon on how he is getting on.

  8. Just bumping up Tabrouk to the top - as this lovely dog needs a warm home soon... it is cold and damp in the Refuge at this time of the year... Tabrouk needs a place by the fire!  Poor Tabrouk is crying with despair and bewilderment - life in a Refuge is hard to understand for this old boy!

Please can anyone offer him a home...?  We may be able to help with transport if you are a bit too far away from Cahors.

  10. Cosmos is a super dog!  After more than 3 long years in the Refuge in Cahors, he is currently being fostered (Dept 31), but Cosmos needs his own family.  Despite so long in the Refuge, he quickly settled in with his foster family who have 3 female Border Collies.

Cosmos is castrated, vaccinated and micro chipped (250 269 500 421 112) and is about 3 to 4 years old.  As to breed - he is a fairly stocky medium build sort of boxer/berger/beauceron x and handsome with it.  He is a super intelligent dog and would suit someone active who would spend a lot of time with him - perhaps even doing agility classes.  He is quick to learn and is an easy going dog (although he does have a penchant for pinching food!  His foster family swear he opened the fridge and made himself a sandwich!).

He is enjoying the freedom of country life at last, chasing the odd rabbit but never straying.  He is very affectionate, sociable and loving.

If you would like further information about Cosmos and think you could offer him the kind home he deserves - please get in touch.  We may be able to help organise transport if you are further away.

  11. This gentle old boy found himself at the Refuge a few days ago, picked up lost or abandoned in Cahors and not reclaimed.  Tabrouk is now micro chipped (250269500554266), vaccinated and ready to find peace and quiet and warmth with a new family away from the noise and confusion of the Refuge.  He is a Labrador/spaniel x, tan and white and is probably about 10 years old.  If you want to know more about Tabrouk and think you can offer this lovely old boy a loving retirement home, please get in touch.

  12. Flex will make you smile!  Who is looking for a lovely chap like this…??   Flex, a gorgeous tri-colour spaniel x (bit of Brittany in there perhaps - he certainly resembles one?).

Flex is micro chipped (250 269 500 539 274), vaccinated and wormed.  A handsome young dog (3 years old), soft and sociable and very affectionate.   Flex will be castrated before leaving for a new home (or arrangements can be made with new owners for this to be done with their vet if need be.)

Please get in touch if you would like to adopt Flex and give him a loving home.

  15. Fantastic news!!! Sweety has been adopted and is on his way to his new home at this very moment....

Here he is ready for the off earlier today ... (well nearly, quick nap first)

More news soon on how he is getting on.

A huge thank you to everyone (and there are many of you!) who have tried to help this pup find a home....  and a massive thanks to his new family.

    Jouals[:D]

  16. Update - Sweety is now micro chipped (250 268 710 288 304), vaccinated and has been wormed.  The good news is that the vet has said she believes now that he may have some vision!  He is settling well in his temporary foster home - has met the cats without problem and is confidently getting used to his new surroundings.  His foster mum says he is adorable, affectionate, intelligent and quick to learn.

  17. Yes it's good news - Minouch, now called Minnie, was adopted today and has gone off to a warm, cosy home!  Just in time, with the cold weather arriving.  A huge thanks Merlin!!

    and off she goes...

First report is that she has had a good look round and is settling in well - laying claim to the sofa at the first opportunity!  One lucky dog!

    Jouals[:D]

  18. Sweety (as we have called him) still needs a new home asap!  Tomorrow he will be vaccinated and micro chipped.  Then a Refuge volunteer will foster him next week - but after that??

Please get in touch if you can offer Sweety a new home (he will do best with at least one other dog as a companion/guide).  His blindness will not be a problem - he will quickly learn to cope.  He is just waiting for his chance to join a family of his own... are you that family?
