Lately I seem to have strange, meaningless (to me anyway!) lumps of text appearing in my posts (under Animal Welfare....)? Can't seem to get rid of them, sometimes they appear twice! Any ideas? (I have a Lenovo and use Firefox).I usually have to click on remove all formatting before being able to post in the message box if that is of any significance!Jouals

Poor Hercule has just found himself atthe Refuge, abandoned by an elderly owner and her family, “Mamie” can longerkeep Hercule as she has to move into smaller accommodation. Hercule is desperately unhappy, frightenedand distressed to find himself in this situation. We are seeking to place him in a foster homeas quickly as possible (or an adoption of course!). Hercule is one year old, micro chipped (250269604602193),vaccinated and in good health. He haslived with a cat but has not (we think) been used to other dogs. No wonder he is so bewildered to find himselfin a refuge!
If you can offer Hercule a foster home– please PM me to see how we can help him together, thanks! We can also try and arrange help withtransport. Hercule is medium size, slim, no more than knee high.

[:D]Mappa has been offered a wonderful new home with a French couple who adopted another setter (now deceased) from the Refuge a few years ago. This is fantastic news for Mappa as the couple are great lovers of setters and she will have a very happy new life with them.Jouals[:D]

An update on Max (who is still sadly in the Refuge!).... (Ejc - I have PM'd you)This is what a fellow volunteer has to say about Max - she walks him often and he is one of her favourites! Max shares a run with a female GSP - he gets on very well with her. Max is just your typical Labrador - loves people and is sociable, friendly and full of energy. On the issue of cats... with the usual careful introduction - all should be well... It is just a question of time and patience to settle in a new dog and for him to find his place in the "pack". Educating a dog is an ongoing task... so some sort of education for any dog arriving in a new family is advisable!"...He has never shown any interest in the Refuge cats - doesn't pull you towards the cat enclosure or get wound up as you walk past it.
Have walked Max in the forest with another dog (male) and he is usually uninterested. In fairness, I and another volunteer have stayed very vigilant and walked 2 or 3 meters apart but the other dog has touched noses with Max - who wasn't bothered. I haven't seem him be aggressive or dominant with other dogs and like all the dogs, he is a different boy outside the Refuge. He is very affectionate, playful and obedient - what's not to like?
In conclusion, can only say good things about him. Feel he is a great dog who deserves a proper chance to settle somewhere new."

Mappa is about 3 years old, a beautiful setter x black and white with some red on her muzzle. A charming dog, friendly and sociable. She is a small sized setter. If you are interested in offering Mappa a home, please get in touch. Mappa is vaccinated and micro-chipped (250 269 500 561 173). She is not yet spayed, but this will be included in her adoption fee and will be done either before she is adopted or by arrangement with a new owner’s vet. Hi FrenchieCactus is ok with other dogs, can't say about cats - he may need careful introduction to them as he has not been used to cats!I can't say about in a car - but will see if anyone has info on that.He has always been with Salto, and they have spent long periods of time alone together (unfortunately!). As to being left on his own, again with training, this should be possible for up to 4 hours maximum. As to be being a runaway, again not to our knowledge, but he would need a settling in period and secure garden to be sure of this. Sorry it's all a bit of an unknown quantity at first, whenever a dog is adopted/fostered, it is a question of settling a dog in sensibly to begin with and showing him/her what's what. The first 2 weeks are always the most important in establishing ground rules/routines.Have you something in mind Frenchie?Jouals

Salto has been adopted - he went off to his new home on Sunday, where he has the company of another elderly female Labrador - I hear he is settling in well...But Cactus still needs a home!Jouals

Hi FrenchieWhat about Max the Labrador?? He has his own post on here already. Ideal family dog, easy to educate, good with children and affectionate. There is also Benco - who is a softy, very affectionate - but would need that fence up!http://refugecaninlotois.wordpress.com/2012/10/28/beagle-5/There is Virus - very very affectionate and playful - loves to play ball (no cats though!).http://refugecaninlotois.wordpress.com/2011/11/11/griffon-noir/There is Phebus - a bit older...but also very affectionate and would enjoy being with a family as an only dog.http://refugecaninlotois.wordpress.com/2012/07/08/chien-de-chasse-2/Flex, the springer spaniel, also still looking for a loving home...energetic dog.http://refugecaninlotois.wordpress.com/2013/01/03/springer-spaniel/JoualsPS - looks like a cut and paste job for the links!

Hi FrenchieI have passed on the details I have from you about your friend to my fellow volunteers to see which of the dogs at the Refuge in Cahors might be suitable. I'll let you know our suggestions. Jouals

Thanks for your help Frenchie! If this person wants a dog - we might have the right one for him... he could look at our site, and perhaps give us some idea of what sort of dog... size etc... Not all the dogs are on the site.. so if he wants to let us have more of an idea.... we will see if we have got the right dog to fit his requirements.Refuge Canin LotoisZ.I. Cactus and Salto are now in the Refuge. It has now been assessed that they could be homed separately. Salto is feisty and independent for his age. Cactus is a lovely dog, a bit timid but he will blossom into a super dog given a chance. Both these dogs have had a sorry time and now deserve to find happy new homes. If you can help by fostering or wish to adopt Salto or Cactus, please get in touch. We may well be able to help with transport if you are some distance from Cahors.Jouals
