  1. For those with experience of opening a small shop in any area of France, would you be so kind as to let us know your experiences? The idea would be to sell fashion jewellery and accessories. Has it been a pleasure or a nightmare, or perhaps something in between? What are the legal requirements and is it best to buy or rent a shop?
  2. Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, the house was empty at the time, and although it must have been the EDF when they took down electricity poles, we have no proof. We live in Belgium and the house was unoccupied for two years because it was a complicated deceased estate.
  3. Still looking for responsible/reasonable builder in the Evian/Thonon area for repairing stone gatepost. Anyone out there?
  4. Have tried posting on the SE France because being in Haute Savoie we don't really fall under either area. We urgently need a builder to repair a stone gatepost which EDF damaged by driving their truck into it! Anyone know a reasonable builder in the Evian/Thonon area. Have had a quote from a mason - an unbelievable and cool 3000!!!!! Sheila
  5. Is there is builder in the Evian/Thonon area who could underpin a wobble gate post for us. Quote from local mason was more than 3000 - they have to be joking! Urgent. Thanks.
  6. Having tried to make contact with any others out there under the South Eastern France Section, we now wonder whether as Haute Savoie, we fall under the Eastern France category. We have just bought - guess where - and will move in a couple of years time. Being sandwiched between the two Swiss borders, we don't expect there are many other expatriates out there. Lots of Dutch and even some Scandanavians. It is quite an expensive part of France but has to rate as among the best, because it has everything, Lake Geneva, mountains, good climate, clean air, good safety record. What more could one want?
