  1. how much does a complete rewire cost if I do all the channelling and replastering and labouring? The property is a two up two down 3 bed house. I paid appprox, £1000 in England but told is much more expensive over here.
  2. Thinking of buying what is just a two up and two down shell. Need a fosse and all bathroom and kitchen plumbing, water is on site, but property has no plumbing as such. How much would one expect to pay for this, we will have all sinks etc to hook upto. We would like to assist with labouring to reduce costs.
  3. thanks for the responses, doe'snt sound too promising! My line of work previously was as a Sheriff's Officer for the High Court, the equivalent here is Huisier de Justice and no way will they touch the English. Will try the ANPE route and persevere for the winter, who knows what the summer will bring.
  4. In the absence of carte de sejours, having decided after being here three months that i am going to stay and purchase a house and look for work etc, is anyone bothered???? I mean the officials obviously, or do I need to notify the authorities and if so who? I realise I must register for the health system so how do I do that?
  5. I have lived in France for 3 months, decided to stay and am now house purchasing. I know about costs involved with self employment so will avoid that! Have visited the ANPE who told me to ring the ASSEDIC ????? then do a language course ?????? too confused so went for a beer as you do with the systems over here! I speak and understand the lingo well enough for basic menial jobs, am not looking for professional well paid career as i left the rat race and am not looking to re-enter it. Can i just simply apply for advertised jobs or go through agencies when i am clearly not in the system as far as social security numbers and carte vitale or must i register with ANPE?
  6. Thanks for that Nick Yes we are EU citizens and will also have a care of address in the UK. We have sorted an E111 out but this is only for 3 Month's (I think) we wanted to know when is the best time to make it offical that we are staying mainly due to having to pay into the French health service apparently 8% of our previous years salaries.
  7. We have bought & read all the books etc etc about living permanently in France but all seem to concentrate on either retiring to France or declaring your intentions to stay and work on arrival, which seems then only to allow you 3 months. We want to travel around France for between 3 & 9 months, possibly longer, before we purchase a property and find work. Should our intentions be declared on entry or when we need to settle? Can we just be considered tourists until then with reference to taxes & health care etc?
  8. HI All Moving to France in July this year, still unsure wether residents permits are still required or not. Please help ! Janda
