1. Many thanks for your replies - I may even be brave enough to call the EDF helpline number that I've just noticed above this posting and see what they say - I just have a sinking feeling that they will charge us LOTS of euros to remove it [:(] Jackie
2. I don't know if anyone has been in a similar position, but when we bought our house (8 years ago now, where does the time go?) there was a redundant concrete electricity post thingy in the front garden area. It has been cunningly disguised with ivy and I can fool friends and family by asking them if they have ever seen an 'Ivy Tree' before :-)  I think that perhaps it's now time for it to make way for something more attractive and was wondering if anyone knows whether EDF would remove it and if so, would we have to pay for the privilege? Thanks for taking the time to read this. Jackie Northumberland & Manche
3. I often wondered why the french looked at me so strangely when I am speaking french to them. My husband then pointed out to me that halfway through the conversation I'd thrown in a couple of sentences of Norwegian! My mother is Norwegian & father is English and I took French & German at school. I think my brain thinks that my second language should be Norwegian & not french & so I lapse into Norwegian when speaking french - and let me tell you that there aren't many french people in the Manche Dept who understand Norwegian!!! Jackie Northumberland/Manche Who is suffering from more & more blonde & senior moments!!
4. Hi all I am wondering if anyone in the Brecey area has also received a letter from the President of the Commune about a public meeting on 6 September at 2030? Unfortunately my french is limited to polite conversation and shopping items so a letter like this is a bit beyond me! As far as I can make out it is either about the water or mains drainage system. Has anyone else had this letter, or is anyone planning on going to this meeting at all? If anyone is planning on attending would they be able to post any information about this on the forum? Many thanks in anticipation... Jackie Northumberland and Brecey
5. Hi all - thanks for your replies We aren't yet at the stage where we are quite ready to rent our house out to the 'open market' so at the moment it's just friends & family. It's something we are thinking about for the future though so it's been interesting to hear of your mixed experiences. I must admit the thought of the free advertising aspect didn't even cross my mind - d'oh! Jackie Northumberland & Manche
6. Hi all I have noticed an increasing amount of gites for rent on Ebay recently. Has anyone here tried this & does it work? Can anyone here share their experiences if so, as I am curious to see if anyone has any success or horror stories. I apologise if this topic has already been discussed but I tend to dip in and out of the forum infrequently so may have missed it. Thanks... Jackie Northumberland & Manche
7.
Hi, We are still having enquiries for july and august but are fully booked, it would be really good to give them another contact to try , If you have any availability and have a website , email me an...
Is this Brecey Ronni? If so then you are really doing well as last time we 'spoke' you were still restoring etc! Have you got a website of your own I can have a snoop at? We don't have a web site yet but do have availability for the last 2 weeks in August. Cheers Jackie
8. Thanks Dick Can't say I've heard of Gorron but if it's on my map then I'll try & 'cajole' the other half to get us there. 5 hours till we start the long journey from Northumberland to Manche - better get some sleep I suppose! Regards Jackie PS. Was very impressed with my Speedferries fare over Easter - £36 return and only booked 2 weeks ago!!
9. Coming over to Brecey tomorrow for 10 days (Woohoo!!) - just wanted a heads up as to whether I need to bring any winter woollies with me? Meteo France says sun & rain & cloud - is it still quite cold at the moment? Also, does anyone know of any antiques/broquantes/vide-greniers in 50 or 14 over the Easter period? Many thanks for your help! Jackie
10. Hi Ronni We were in Brécey last Christmas & had wood delivered by a farmer who had a card in the window of Pointe Verte (garden centre by the swimming pool). I think we paid about €120 ish (can't remember exact amount) for 3 cubic metres. He was a lovely old guy who brought his grandson with him as he was just starting to learn English. Needless to say he was so shy he didn't mutter a word. I can't remember the guys name but we still have his phone number - 0233487282.There were also adverts in the window at Marche U for wood providers. If you only need small amounts then Mr Bricolage were selling bags of wood. There are also plenty of ads in the local paper. Hope this helps... How was your visit in August? I take it you're going over in the colder weather? Jackie
11. We have similar sounding holes in our garden in Normandy - Manche. After waiting patiently we have observed large cricket/cicada type insects coming out of them. Could these be your culprits? Jackie
12. Does anyone know if there are any web cams in France?(I'm particularly interested in Normandy) As I'm still UK based & wait longingly for each holiday, it would be nice to get a 'french fix' by way of a web cam. Cheers Jackie
13. Hi Oli You don't fancy commuting from Brecey, Manche do you? Your husband sounds like he could be very useful!! Hope you find something! Jackie
14. Does anyone know of any companies who supply & fit window & door shutters in the Brecey area? We've already tried one company in Avranches (B Plast in Rue Nationale) who've let us down & not supplied quotes when they said they would. Anyone know any reliable suppliers? Anyone have a rough idea of costs? Thanks in advance Jackie
15. Hi all Looking for some advice. Have bought holiday home in Manche which we intend to let out as a gite from 2005 onwards. Do you think the lack of a washing machine (launderette in town 6 kms away)would put off potential renters? House is 4 bedroomed & can therefore sleep up to 8 people. Have been on plenty of holidays myself with no washing machine & personally this doesn't worry me, but I recognise that families with children may be renting & I'm not sure how they would feel? Kitchen is fairly small with no room to plumb one in. Thoughts anyone? Regards Jackie
