  1. Thanks Clair, I thought you would be able to help. I nearly put "would Clair please answer this" on my original post! OK I'll have another go and see what happens. Thanks, Irene
  2. I have read the various posts on the forum on this form but  I still need some help. I completed this form last year following the completion of works on our house. When the taxe d'habitation demand came in I thought it was rather high. On further examination our valeur locative was in excess of 50% higher than the department average. Our house is not huge, it has been nicely restored but it is very modest - when I think of the massive chateaux and manoirs there are around the area, it just doesn't make sense. I spoke with the local tax department last week and they have sent me another H1 to complete to rectify what must be an error somewhere in what I put on the original form. My questions are: 1.Does an entrance hall get included in 41A or in 41C ie in rooms for habitation or in "other" - caves, utility, etc. 2. Does the total surface area included in 41A.6 include bathrooms, shower rooms etc or does it exclude them ? 3. Does a lave a mains (one of those tiny hand basins) count as a lavabos or not ? If anyone knows of any other thread that explains the "norms" for completing this form please then point me at it, I'd be very grateful. I'm not wanting to diddle the tax system but at the same time I don't want to pay more than I "should" ! Thanks in anticipation. Irene
  3. Hi, it is a normal land line but it on a specific tarrif called "Residence Secondaire" which means you can turn it off and on. I think that you will find that most orange / france telecom shops will offer it as standard if you say it is a holiday home. We were offered it without asking for it. It is a standard, off the shelf regular tarrif. http://www.orange.fr/bin/frame.cgi?u=http%3A//www.agence.francetelecom.com/mx/%3F%26tp%3DHTM%26IDCible%3D1%26page-suivante%3D/php/vfrance/esav/residentiel/pages/formules/sommaire_form.php More info above if your French is up to scratch!
  4. We are on the 24.9 euros / month tarrif which is the maximum speed (1Gb) that our distance from the exchange allows. There is a faster rate available (I think it is 8Gb) for 29.9 euros / month. Both of those are "sans engagement" ie no tie in for a specific time. I switch the internet off and on for no charge. I think there is a small charge (approximately 5 euros) for switching the telephone line (residence secondaire) off. For us, although the monthly rates for internet are higher than many other providers the simplicity of the arrangement has been worth maintaining. It works very well for us. I hope that helps.
  5. Having seen many conflicting stories on this subject I would just like to add the truth as I am experiencing it. We are a UK-based family with a second home in France. We have a France Telecom land line on Residence Secondaire status in France and we have ADSL (internet) also through France Telecom (on the tarrif that has no fixed time limit - ie we are not tied in for 12 months). We switch off and on our telephone AND internet connection with no difficulties what so ever. Mechanism: You can definitely switch the telephone off and on using the espace client section of the France Telecom site but I don't think you can yet use that mechanism to switch the internet off and on. I think this is because they don't actually switch the ADSL off - they just move you to another non-charging product and then move you back when you want to switch it back on. I  use the English speaking line (as mentioned above) and I have found them very helpful. In fact today when I phoned up to switch off both facilities they asked when we would be returning to France and offered to phone me up in advance of our next trip to confirm reactivation. That is service indeed, so we will see if it materialises.   ;-) I hope others find this helpful information. Irene
  6. Thanks for that - sounds like the builder knows what he's talking about - why didn't he do that in the first place.....! Does anyone know what "acceptable" means in this context ?  Will they suddenly decide on the next inspection that it is no longer "acceptable" ? Thanks again, Irene
  7. I am looking for some advice. We recently had our fosse (toutes eaux) inspected by SPANC. The fosse was installed in 2004 by our first builder and then connected to the house by our second builder (you can sense the trouble already!). The fosse is more than 10 m from the house. All the water (foul and grey) goes in the same 4 inch pipe from the house to the fosse. The pipe is under the kitchen floor with underfloor heating on top of it, so separating the foul from grey is not going to be easy. The SPANC inspector explained the situation (much as I have read on the forum) about the need for a grease trap - but that requires separation of grey from foul. When we told our builder (the one who had connected up the tank) he said that it was possible to put in a different type of trap between the house and fosse - not a grease trap - but something else that everything would go into. Is this correct ? Does anyone know if this is possible ? Are we facing having to move the fosse nearer to the house ? Is there any other way out of this mess ? Also the report that has come from SPANC in the "Conclusion du SPANC" says  "le dispositif est Acceptable" and then goes on to give a commentary much as I have above about the need for a grease trap etc.  What does "Acceptable" mean in this instance ? Does it mean acceptable until their next visit when it will not be acceptable if nothing has changed ? All advice appreciated - I just want to know my facts when I get into the negotiations with the builder - the SPANC inspector was very clear on the fact that it is the builder's problem (but it is my problem to get him to do something about it!) Thanks, Irene
  8. Is there any more information on Stansted to Rodez flights ? At the moment it looks as if they stop September 15th 2008. Is that correct or Ryanair just doing their usual, holding them back until they guage the level of interest ?  Do we have another winter of no flights to Rodez ?
