  1. Wow! They sound horrid. We are not a million miles away from you (Deux-Svres) - what do they look like? Su www.inchocks.co.uk
  2. The best "puree'd" potato I ever had was in the Andes in Peru where the potatoes are freeze dried in the open air and then cooked and mashed - absolutely wonderful! Maybe that would work in the winter where you live Teamed-up? Su www.inchocks.co.uk
  3. Hi This is our first year of people coming to stay in our gite - we have a web site but only advertise with Chez Nous - we are booked from now through solidly until 25 Sept and have turned down something in the region of 60 enquiries for July/August. We are certainly going to advertise with Chez Nous again for next year - but possibly look at some alternatives for the out of sesaon market.. regards Su www.inchocks.co.uk
  4. Hi, We have heard on the grapevine that anyone running a gite or a chambre d'hotes now has to register with their prefecture and undergo an inspection. Apparently a new law has just been passed.. Has anyone else heard this? Do you have any further information? Are there any deadlines? Any info would be appreciated! Su and Pete www.inchocks.co.uk
  5. Thanks very much - probably one of the most useful responses about pool fences yet! Certainly clarifies a few uncertain areas. regards Su (and Pete) www.inchocks.co.uk

  7. Hi, this will be our first year and we have advertised with Chez Nous and we have a web site. All our bookings so far have come via Chez Nous and we have 18 weeks booked (15 weeks confirmed). We are not in a particularly touristy area but we have installed a pool which seems to be making a big difference. So far we could have filled August and July about six times (2 enquiries this afternoon while we were at Leclerc!) Our first booking is the week before Easter but we are fully booked from the end of May until third week in September. Chez Nous certainly seem to be doing the biz for us. It's all a bit scary to be this fully booked in year one - we certainly didn't expect it. Maybe a big learning curve? We'll see. How is this year panning out for every one else? Su
  8. Hi, We'd like to be added if it's not too late. We have one gite and are in Deux Sevres (Dept 79); we are www.inchocks.co.uk Many thanks Su
  9. We moved out to Deux-Sevres permanently in mid April (St Varent 79330) and have (luckily) not had to use any medical services. We have applied for our E106 but not yet received the paperwork as apparently it takes 4 months; we do have (presumably illegal) E111's. We are travelling out to Chiang Mai in Northern Thailand in late August and have just learned that the area is malarial - does anyone know if we can obtain anti-malaria tablets from a pharmacy or do we need to go to see a doctor to get a prescription as in UK? Presumably we will have to pay whatever the price is as we are not actually ill? Any advice would be welcome - does anyone know of an English speaking doctor in the Thouars/Bressuire area as my vocabulary would probably be a little stretched in this case! Su
