Thanks Jackie,Very relevant, as that is the route I'll be using next week. First time out of Liverpool and I've not ben through Limoge for a couple of years. I've been using BA and Air France into CDG and Toulouse for the past couple of years and a seperate laptop bag hasn't been a problem. It's intriguing that the rule is enforced by security. I visited a luggage shop out of curiosity today, to see exactly what 55cm x 40cm x 20cm looks like - hard to visualise. They had a list of the cabin baggage sizes for more than 40 different airlines. Quiet a range of sizes. I shouldn't imagine airport security have the time or the inclination to measure every bag. Thanks for the advice.
-
How are Ryanair staff interpreting the rules ?The website quotes the rule on one piece of cabin baggage to a specific size. But what about a briefcase/handbag/laptop bag. Does everything have to be squezzed into one bag, or can an extra hand item be carried. At £18 a hit, I'm not keen to find out at the airport

I've got the european certificate of conformity, so as long as it's in the EU, it doesn't matter.
I spec'd it without the sunroof. Can't see the point of a leaky hole in the roof when it's got air con.
-
Headlamps not a problem, I've got the originals. And it's an opel, not a citreon. It's barely broken in at 200,000 Km. Full service history too, nothing dubious there.Bought for the eventual move to France, which isn't going to happen as the same family unit now.
-
Cheers John,I'll register in France then. I bought the vehicle from new in Holland - it's badged Opel. Vauxhall badging was a €350 option - not something I felt an overwhelming desire to have.
-
Cheers Sunday driver, I was sure you'd have some ideas. I'll take it over to France and register it there. It's a doddle to make the changes
-
It's got a full European Certificate of conformity. Basically, it's a European model with all the extras ( 5 items, I seem to remember) to also get me the UK cedrtificate of conformity.
Surely the French motor traders must have a price guide structure. With a French guide price, I can make a decision. I certainly don't want to start discussing trades prices with a French dealer - I'd lose miserably against any dealer !!
I'm happy to register it in France (or Spain, or Italy, or wherever) if that makes a difference.

Is there anyone in the Bellac, Magnac Lavel, Chateusponsac triangle who can offer me professional garden maintenance. Initial heavy cut, followed with periodic trims

I've got a May 03 diesel Zafira Elegance which has 200K Km on the clock. It's UK registered but is LHD, full European spec with all the modifications to make it UK legal too. So it's got full UK Thatcham security etc. Plus factory fitted tow bar. So an ideal buy for the ex-pat community.
It was bought new as part of fullfilling the dream, but the dream's no longer a reality.
How do I establish a price for selling in France? Is their an equivalent to Glass's guide ?
With the current exchange rates, selling in France is a much better proposition than feeding my french bank account from the UK.
This is not a sales pitch. I want to establish the value of the car, so that I can decide whether selling is the right solution.

Well i can tell you one of them - Opel/Vauxhall Zafira - I've had mine nicked. There's gadget you can buy on e-bay that cures the problem, which I'll get when I get around to finding a new spare
-
Stefan,
It was an Easyjet Airbus 319, fully loaded - no spare seats. Maybe it was litres not gallons, but the units the pilot quoted were what stuck in my mind. 22 for the flight - about an hour. 18 for rail - I'm assuming a full train, which they never are.
I'm still convinced that modern efficient air travel is a benefit, not a curse.
-
I've hired high top long wheel base Renaults in Limoges, but never seen Luton bodied vehicles.
Are you sure it's worth the hassle. Sell inIreland and buy some real bargains in the brocantes. More fun and far cheaper

Now, global warming caused by the frequency of no frill airlines !! thats a different story
I still don't buy it, particualrly when I see the air jollies that the proponents of that argument put forward.
It's very easy for people who have no need to travel to jump on the eco bandwagon and be counted in the eco statistics. But that's a distortion.
I will continue to travel because of the massive contribution it makes to the economy and to achieving my objectives during my 3 score years and 10.
I'm in Ecosse at the moment, having flown from Bristol with Easyjet. The pilot claimed, and I'm sure it can be verified, that the packed plane - no spare seats - used 22 gallons of kersosene per passenger. Compare that with the consumption of 18 litres per person on the train alternative - Virgin. But a lot of their trains run half empty, with empty first class carriages. As for the road alternative - forget it. No frill sairlines don't distinguish
Flying is a beneficial means of transport for those who want to travel.
I heard an airline executive make a very pertinent comment last year. "Build one mile of railway or road and I'll take you exactly one mile. Build me one mile of runway and I'll take you anywhere"
-
The way round all of this is to register your vehicle in Poland. There are dozens of Polish registered vehicles permanently located in the area of Bristol I'm decamped to at the moment.
And Polish insurance companies must offer very good terms for extended stays outside the country of registration

Is this a new policy at Etap. They've always been unmanned at night when I've used them.
If the main vehicle access is closed, you go through the pedestrian gate, book in via the machine and the ticket will include the code for the gate. Back to the car anf you're in.
The Eatp at Coqeulle also has a Suite and an Ibis in the same building.
Try B&B too, especially if you have more than 2 adults in the party. Branches with pitched roofs have 2 level rooms with one double and two single beds

In theory the many cheap flights to Limoge should provide the answer to my travel needs.
In reality, the frequent scheduled flights to Tolouse and the 2 1/2 hour door to door motorway journey more frquently meets my needs.
I can't rely on Ryanair and Flybe to maintain flights

Their fleet is of fairly small aircraft. I use their Bristol to Aberdeen route and it's on a 29 seater Jetstream 41, which is their basic plane. It's so small, theirs no chance of bringing 15kg of hand baggage in the cabin, everything goes in the hold. Cabin crew don't even need a microphone to do the safety bit at the beginning. I think they've got some bigger 50 seater too
-
Drop down on the website shows Dinard. Must be the fourth one
-
It's generally only frowned upon if you try to take it into the airplane cabin or the restaurant on the boat.
However, the guys at the UK end of the tunnel are renonwned for asking the bleedin' obvious " So what's this for ,Sir "
They won't stop you taking it though
-
Isn't it an Advertising Standards/Office of Fair trading type ruling. They've certainly stopped doing on the UK based site
-
If the number doesn't turn up, get to the airport 10 or 15 minutes early. Go to the Ryanair information desk and they'll give you the number. I used to just check in, but they've taken to asking me for the reference now.
-
So, if the site says the registration number doesn't exist, but I know the number did once exist, becasue it was on one of my dad's cars, is there a way of getting DVLA to resurrect it.
They've dropped the T111 request from the website, so maybe the owner surfaced

BAA needs to get back to it's primary function, which is running airports - not shopping malls.
I passed through Stansted one evening earlier this year returning at the ryanair terminal. Arrivals are taken a tortuous route that involves going up a level, only to descend again, both by escalator. One of the up esacalators had failed and rather than use it as a set of stairs, it was closed off and we were sent up a narrow alternative.
It took 75 minutes from leaving the plane to joining the back of the queues for passport checks - another scandal. That area also hasn't grown in line with the volume of passengers travelling through the airport.
And all in the name of health and safety and/or security.

Check the Limoges Airport website. They've posted an urgent message to contact them.

I had need to contact them and it seems they work very limited office hours, so try about 9:30 am.
Once I got through, they were very pleasant, the height of efficiency and the promised credit to my debit card was there within 48 hours.
I know - it surprised me too !!
