1. 1. Exactly what do you presume? Me thinks you forgot to finish the sentance. 2. I have just looked at a couple of online dictionaries to see why you think my use of "distress" is inappropriate.... with definitions like these... transitive verb to cause sorrow, misery, or suffering to; pain to cause discomfort to; trouble to exhaust or weaken with strain of any sortI fail to see why you think my usage to be in appropriate. 3. I am not trying to justify Halal or Kosher meat.... and I tend to agree. However, I tend to think you've brought it into the debate in order to muddy the waters. So leave that out of this thread on bull fighting and, if you must start another thread about the other barbaric things us humans do.
2. Ermm..... I think I see where you are coming from PPP, but I tend to think "that getting pleasure from seeing an animal in distress" and "ones pleasure coming from an activity which happens to cause distress to animals" as being so close that you would not get a fag paper between them.
3. I struggle with the concept of people taking pleasure at seeing another living creature distressed (not just those who promote the idea of animals fighting, but also those who who wind up other human beings). Therefore I don't like the idea of the Bull fight.... but I have to agree with Racerbear02.
4. Thanks for those clarifications Martin. I appreciate your expertise on these matters.
5. It's slighty pedantic, but you haven't included the Free sat option. Buy a box from the likes of Argos for about £30, which you can take with you if you like (but for £30.....?). No card needed. More channels than Freeview (But obviously not as many as a sky subscription).
6. I have every sympathy with the railmen and agree that some show of solidarity and support was in order. But I'm not sure a lightening strike was the right choice. If SNCF were percieved to be somewhat lacking when it came to staff safety, then a strike would be in order, if all the public didn't give a ****, then a stike would be in order. But when everyone seems to be outraged and upset by what happened, why take an action that hurts your supporters?
7. It's interesting that the journos have all published this as being a victory for "the pub landlady".... I understand that she has been supported by many of the brewers and pub chains. Sky charge them hundreds of pounds per month to show the footie, it's the Greek "commercial" license that is a lot cheaper. Mr average home viewer will not save much by swapping. It is also interesting that the reports were all how it is the Football Companies that are upset by by this (and not Mr Murdoch). Being one who doesn't understand the whole concept of paying football players a fortune, I tend to think that the fans ought to be watching at the ground and really supporting the team. Anyone watching at home on TV or in the pub is ONLY a spectator wanting a spot of entertainment. So I'd remove it from TV and Radio. End of problem :-) .
8. I had one that wanted me to input a pin number, as I hadn't called them for months I didn't have the faintest idea of what it would be.... did it give me the option to tell somebody that I couldn't remember it? No of course not, I had to put in a pin before I was allowed to speak to anyone.
9.
Robin - you might be happy with the term but it's sloppy nomenclature and leads to misunderstanding and possible unnecessary purchases by the public.   It's best avoided.    As has been extensively discussed already on this thread.
I agree wholeheartedly (but then, I suppose I would). Last year I worked on a number of Digital Switch Over roadshows in the West (UK) and I lost count of the number of people who were 1, angry about the fact that they would have to get a new Digital TV aerial or 2 (even worse) were even angrier (is that a real word?) at having already bought one when the old one might have worked OK. The term "Better aerial" is a much better way of describing the aerials that some folk might need.
10. Martin I didn't mean to use "corrected" in a negative way, more a positive in that I am now better informed. I.e. I am not put out in any way by your post, indeed, I thank you for it.
11. I stand corrected (fortunately, I've never been too proud to admit it when I'm wrong) the transmitters that I looked at seemed to have clustered MUX's and that is what I was going on.
12. Well spotted PPP. Robin, I'm not convinced that you are right about the multiplexes being spread all over the spectrum. I thought (and still think) that for each Transmitter they are clustered, much the same as most analogue signals, if I am right, a multi band aerial is not really a good solution. As for the shape of the directors and reflector on modern aerials, I can't see how altering that will have any impact on the tuning of the actual dipole. My studies on the dark arts of radio wave propogation are getting rusty, but I still maintain that there is no such thing as a digital aerial. People in poor reception areas may need to get a better aerial, but that is all.
13. Of course there are 2 ways of looking at this... one is that the state is preventing them from dressing how "particular fraction of Islam" has decided they should. The other is that a "particular fraction of Islam" is preventing them from going outside in France by forcing them to dress in manner that is unacceptable to most of the population".
14. Was "I'm for ever blowing bubbles" sung by Michael Jackson?

True wooly, hypocracy did raise its ugly head with some of the MP's. But that doesn't stop me from being annoyed at this group being hypocritical as well.

I do find it rather ironic (and, or Hypocritical) that a group of people who have shown disrespect for the law for 10 years, now have no hesitation in turning to it.
17. An easy mistake, I did the same thing, so, although I didn't post, I did think badly of PPP, therefore I'll apologise as well. In my defence PPP, you do tend to post messages that are lacking in clarity.
18. Hereford has given a grand answer, I've just had test that says "Well u can transfer more than that but it will take3-5 working days, that's for faster payments". It isn't signed so she's being anonymous for me.... if it was her!
19. I don't know the answer, but will ask one of the anonymous call centre folk if you like. But it might not be very quick as I don't see her very often, now she's in her 20's she doesn't find her uncles company as appealing as she used to. (They are still based in the UK by the way, at least I think they are, if not she's got a long commute to work each day!)
20. I really think it depends on the song. There are some songs that really do stand on their own as poetry but are enhanced by the tune.... but there are songs where vocal intonation is sufficient (Was it Louie Louie that the FBI thought was subversive because they didn't understand it, so the investigated and..... still didn't understand it)
21. I find THE, most annoying, thing about ALL, the broadcasters is; the way too many, of them break, EVERY, sentence into tiny, chunks and, EMPHASIS the wrong, WORDS.
22. I agree. I've done Franciliene when taking the LeHavre or Caen boats, but for the North East it's Reims every sinmgle time. Then to get my bit of relief from the motorwat, I take the A39 down to Ambrieu en Bugey and head off over to Chambery that way. I usually stop at Ambrieu for cheaper fuel!
23. Being a Thomson I guess you bought it in France, but if by chance it was the UK... guarantees are almost meaningless as the sale of goods act is far more important. Products have to be fit for purpose and of merchantable quality.... I think that means that if you can find expert advice saying that a screen should last more than a year, then the product was not of merchantable quality and so you are entitled to a repair / replacement.
24. If the voltage was "only just" below the original 1.5v then I wouldn't think that it was the batteries. My guess is that when you turned the remote over and fiddled with the battery case, you also allowed the bit of crisp (or caviar depending on how posh you are) to move that was preventing the button from working correctly.
