  1. We are looking for accommodation from 9 Sept - 21 Sept for 2 people.  Would be interested to hear from anyone with availability for these dates.
  2. All application forms ask if you intend to live abroad so you will need to find out how this would affect the policy
  3. We are looking to use interest from savings to live off (it won't be much but it will only be until my husband recieves his pension). The advice we have received is to invest in an Assurance Vie but to keep the money outside France, anybody know whether there is any difference in the money being inside or outside of the country?
  4. We find Nationwide flex account excellent for withdrawing euros when on holiday.  Nationwide also do a Euro Account but I am not sure how it operates, maybe worth a phone call.
  5. Thank you both for the information.  Sorry to hear your Easyjet flight has been cancelled Katie, we didn't get an explaination from them either and it cost a fortune to get through to someone on the phone.
  6. Hi I would appreciate information on Flybe as we have just had a bad experience with Easyjet.  Bristol airport we are okay with as we have flown from there before.
  7. Has anyone used this route recently and if so were you happy with the service. I would also appreciate recommendations for car hire from the airport, we usually use the ferry and drive to our destination but have decided this area is too far.
  8. Thank you everyone who replied, we now have accommodation booked.
  9. Can anyone help please we booked a gite in Mervent 4 September to 15 September and today we have had a phone call to say the owner has withdrawn the property.  Our flights and car hire are all arranged and the company we booked with can not offer a suitable alternative. We require a 2 bed property within appox 1 hours drive of La Rochelle airport. Ann
  10. Before our last trip we contacted JB Fench Houses reference properties we had seen on their site.  They made appointments with a couple of agents on our behalf.  The appointments were something we could have arranged ourselves all they do is put you in touch with the agent selling the property you like the look of.  If we had looked at the websites of the larger agencies we would have found them for ourselves.
  11. Thanks Nick and Sunday Driver, I will check out the example compromise de vente over the weekend.
  12. From the information received I think it will be better for us to attend both signings if we go ahead with anything. Thank you all for replying.
  13. Thank you all for your replies, they have been very helpful.
  14. What we found strange was that the French Immobilier was suggesting buying by post and yet an English Agent we know was horrified by the idea and told us that if we bought we really must attend the signing.  Sounds as though the advice of the English agent is the better option.
  15. Self build is what my husband would prefer to do.  I know it would make sense as we could purchase a nice plot of land and design our own home, it would also be fun to work on the design, however, the idea does not appeal to me.
  16. Thank you all for your replies, we did think it was rather a tight budget to work with.  It is always useful to have advice from people but sometimes it needs clarification and the more opinions we have the easier I find it to come to a sensible conclusion.
  17. Aly so sorry to hear of the problems you have had.  The person who told us about buying by post works for one of the immobiliers, it just sounded a strange way to purchase a house. Hope you have sanitation soon.[:(]
  18. Thanks Nick It's good to have a contact who speaks good english, I always try to ask in French but can get confused with the answers.  Must get some more practice.
  19. Thanks for the reply.  It sounded a bit strange as an English Agent had previously told us that we would need to attend the the Notaires office for the signings because that is when you receive information about the property.
  20. We have been advised by someone doing renovation projects that if you spend 50,000 euros on a property then you should budget 50,000 euros for the renovation.  Has anyone who has done a renovation found that they spend the equivalent of the purchase price on the renovations?
  21. On our last trip to France we were told by a French Agent that as it was our last day and we were undecided about a couple of plots of land we could take our time to consider and to purchase by post. Would be interested to hear if anyone has purchased a plot of land or property this way.
  22. Anyone know if english courses would be available in Brittany?
  23. Try this link it's a uk site but you can choose the french version, this link gives you a compatibility chart so you can check if the dvds are compatible with your player and the prices are very good.  Somewhere on the site you can get 100 printable for 14.99 + p&p. http://www.bigpockets.co.uk/product.php?lang=fr&menu=&page=&gad=&search_fr=&product=&product_id=2519&search=&photo=&session=d57c2a80000a49db05ddd071465fb5de Ann

    Assurance Vie

Thank you for the information I did not realise it was along the lines of PEP's and ISA's.  Will certainly look at other options.
