  1. Steve ??  After dragging me up and down the beach for four and a half hours i was too tired to do no more than give it a hug and send it on its way [:D] Oh, and with a tag on it to record it for posterity.
  2. Wow CH, you must have knocked some mackerel on the head, look at the blood stains on those cliffs [Www]
  3. I agree with most posters here re ryanair, i personally use them all the time cos they are mostly convenient, mostly cheapest and most of all cos i can. To all posters...............if you don't like the content of a posting ignore it. Instead of complaining about people who are complaining about the above thread, just move on and don't pander to their needs, the rant only continues when people fan the flames, this covers all items not just MOL. The Ryanair thing will rumble on, some like them some dont, thats a fact and you will not change an opinion as strongly held.
  4. Hi all, would it be best to have the CT done to know exactly what repairs are necessary or fix the obvious first ( hydraulic suspension- cit xantia ) and the n CT after, or is there a legal requirement to have CT first and there after repairs, Hugh.
  5. I think the poster was referring to E...jet, i found that they keep adding things on after you have clicked to cancel them, such as insurance or extra/large baggage etc. As far as MOL goes, and its been said before, love him or hate him he still gets you there and back relatively cheap.  If anyone should gripe then it should be us Scots, we have to have 4 flights to get there and back via Stansted, no one single flight, oh no, and we have to get connections, 5 hours in Stansted for the last Glasgow Prestwick flight is no joke.......stop laughing [:D] and show some sympathy
  6. Hi, i have these too and they have just developed recently, last three weeks. My problem is that when i googled it they said that Catalpa ( Indian bean tree ) are one of the less susceptible and ok to plant, guess what i have...correct,  and guess which tree has the fungus....correct again. A bit of history now, this tree died last year after a weak previous years growth and i should have got rid long time ago but wife uses it to hang washing line from......problem i have now is that i have another Catalpa 2 metres away and a Lleylandii ( spelling ???) hedge going round the whole garden, closest proximity is 1 metre. Will my hedge get affected ? and should i cut and take out the other Catalpa before it spreads to this and others, i have lime trees and peach trees ( again very poor last 2 years ) Hugh.
  7. Hey JK, not the worst result in the world, still a defeat but at least it was not overwhelming , i think that's my ' its the taking part ' Scottish mentality kicking in. But in reality a 1-0 defeat over there ain't too bad. Next time eh !! [:)]
  8. TUT TUT, such cyncism, and from a moderator !!!!!! You should know better. Its obviously a one legged bum kicking world cup qualifier. Sorry JK, but we do have a history dating back to my beautiful nations exploits at footie, or the lack of its exploits, Scots Wha Hae.[:P]
  9. as much imagination as a boiled haggis Do you know many Haggis to say that they lack imagination, boiled or otherwise ?? I know some very imaginative haggis, some boiled some just rare ( like most haggi' ) thats a collective term for a family for all you heathens, and as if to prove my point how often do you see them?? Not very often, and why................. IMAGINATION thats why, they choose the very best in raw materials for camouflage, heather, grass, red deer hair and stone coloured stuff !!!! I dont know its name because i have insufficient imagination to guess but its definately stone coloured. So come on Mr Head, prove me wrong, yours truly, Hugh  [:P]
  10. Insurance for a trailer, I haven't even got insurance for my car! Insurance ???? whats that ??????? and you've got a car too, gee whizz, you are lucky [:D]
  11. Hey JJ, pliers are for prising the  ' mighty dollar' from the buyers pockets.
  12.  What with the cost of the timber and the number of hours involved I don't even earn artisans rates for stuff like this. Ideas? Yeah, charge more.  Uniquely made one off piece of furniture that has a value only to the person who wants it. PS  have you tried posting something like this on EBAY with a starting price of  :- Artisan rates x hours worked. If it dont sell you've lost nothing, if it do............ PPS  Do you include the pliers under the bed as part of the fitting kit ??
  13. Hi all, thanks for info and i suppose that all said and done i will probably bin the idea, however.......... is the axle weight not just a limit to what you can legally carry? and i have seen large trailers sold in the brico's. Do these have CoC's or are they under a certain amount of kilo's per axle ? Anyway, again thanks for all info....................next project...
  14. Thanks Gosub, the axle weight is 850 kg if that makes any difference ? Do you mean that i will have to go to the same place as i go to do the car registration ? or just buy the registration plates to match the towing vehicle. Sorry for asking the question if the answer is obvious but i need to be sure before embarking on this venture, Hugh. PS if you are not sure thanks anyway for the info you have given.
  15. Hi all, can anyone help me with some info regarding CT for trailer if made from a caravan. I have an old caravan that i want to get rid of and had the idea to make a trailer from it and wondered about the legality re CT. Any info helpful, Hugh.
  16. I agree with previous poster, looks like ash to me. Especially the bottom picture. First thoughts were red pine, but now........
  17. Stunt mouse on a unicycle ................... sorry could'nt resist. Hard to judge size of tracks, sort of large millipede/centipede ???
  18. Hi, been trying to get back online, password failure has stopped me. Back to topic, I'm sure most people who i have replied to, or have had occasion to converse with me on this forum will not be surprised to know that i too have flown Hawks and Falcons for many years before leaving Scotland. As my avator suggests i am a hunting shooting fishing kind of guy. always have been and always will be. Just to add to the conversation, hawks and falcons are not chained up, they are leashed, subtle difference but to the uninitiated chains sound cruel and a form of imprisonment.  Also, by the nature of the way they are kept and flown for game, they are free to depart as and when they wish once released by the falconer to hunt. These birds are encouraged by their keepers to return to them for reward after doing well in flight or in the capture of their chosen quarry. There are occasions when these birds do fly off and do not return, this is unfortunate for the keeper but not a disaster for the hawk, because it retains its natural instinct to hunt and kill its own food. I guess what i'm trying to say is that these birds do not have owners as such, simply because they, the keeper,  release them into the wild every day they cast them off to fly free and hope that with good management and care they will come back through a natural affinity with its trainer/keeper.
  19. there is always the chance that its a ventilation problem too, is the chimney sealed at the top or bottom ? Could be that a simple vent fitted into the chimney breast could solve the problem, got to keep the airflow going. The heat from the flue in the stack can cause condensation, make sure the top of the chimney has airflow and not sealed  around the flue
  20. I bought pine from my local mill and ran it through  a planer thicknesser, nailed it up to my pine framework and after that bought the green matting to cover the whole deck. It now looks good and every spring i give it a coat to protect it( the wood) and roll out the matting soon after, no splinters or nails sticking up !!
  21. Hi, just googled Deux Sevres and its north of me. I was in Royan last week and there seemed to be numerous small fishing villages along the coast, apart from trying Tourist Information locally your friend could just approach some locals in a smalll village and ask ?? You never know.
  22. Hi Mooky, not sure about insurance etc but i would imagine that the boats would have all the cover needed. I looked previously and googled areas south of Arcachon for sea fishing and got a few pointers, not sure where you are or your friend, to see if thats close enough. Best of luck and let me know how you get on, and if its close enough and want some company ??
  23. Jumbo studding we called it in UK, it can be as much as 10 cm wide/deep/thick, you can also put in timber to the door frames to beef them up a bit for hanging heavy doors from, the doubling up of placo serves a dual purpose, gives better sound insulation and also gets you a 1hr fire rating/protection. If you have to encase a stairwell with placo then this gives you a 1 hr protection zone that can also save lives, we used it a lot in uk for protecting lifts and hallways when we used to renovate older properties that were being readied for nursing homes etc. I prefer timber, being a chippie, but there is a place for metal studding and it does have the benefit of always being straight, well nearly. Basically if you need structure then go for timber, if you want separation then may as well use metal. Just a matter if choice, however the french style doors are designed with metal studding in mind, just the right thickness for placo either side to match up with your doors.
  24. Hi Rose, have you asked your builders who are renovating for you, they may know what to use, and where to get it.
