  1. Hi Ron, perhaps as a form of protest we could all collaborate our info re flights and arrive with 30 mins to boarding/gate time to see them squirm [:D] People power often wins in the end. That said i have flights booked for April and May and i need to get them, perhaps later in the year [:P] Hope you all enjoyed your weekend
  2. Surely if everyone checks in on-line and there is no physical check to see who is on the plane, or not, then there will be delays everywhere. If we all arrive 30 minutes before flight time, as recommended, customs will be overwhelmed with the rush and will cause delays, the very thing ryanair are claiming to ease with on-line check in. Then the ryanair staff will do a bikini clad head count and realise that some passengers are missing, are they at the airport ?? Well they checked in on-line......Did they clear customs ?? Hello,Mr customs man,  ryanair flight RN 606 here, can you check your  data base to see if MR and Mrs R notere have checked in...............no we can't says mr customs man we are not a checking in system Hmmm You obviously don't fly very often in the EU  or understand the concept of on-line check in do you?  Hi Ron, the first paragraph was meant to be a serious observation re arriving half hour before departure and the ensueing carnage trying to all get through customs, get on board and depart on time. The second was a bit tongue in cheek, re bikini clad staff, but with a certain amount anxiety mixed in. And to your observation that i do not fly very often in the EU, where did you gather that gem of information from ?? From the above posting ? You have assumed that i do not-  1, fly often or 2, do not understand the concept of online check in.  I suppose you have gleaned it from reading between the lines, i shall then suppose, by reading between the lines, that you don't know what you are talking about when it comes to my flying habits or my ability to understand the concept of online check in.........this is of course supposition and not an actual fact....cos i don't know you. [:D] The reality is that i fly to Scotland with Ryanair normally five times a year, from Bergerac means two flights to get there and two back = four,  times five trips PA = 20 trips per year with Ryanair and all with online check in so i do understand the concept. Kindest regards and best wishes...................[;-)]

  4. Thank you for your replies, much appreciated. To the prefecture i go, hi ho hi ho [:D]
  5. And who's to say they haven't been there [:P]
  6. Hi all, can anyone tell me where to go to register a french registered van in my name, is it the same place as you would do a private car. I reregistered my UK car here and that was no problem however i have been told that to do a van, because its commercial, there is another place to do this. Any help will be greatly appreciated, Hugh.
  7. Hey Jondeau, thanks for the reply. I should have mentioned this but i have topped it up quite a lot, too often really hence the question. I had a quick check for the same problem last night in previous posts and i think i may have to call in a plumber to fix it. It drops below 1 bar every day, to zero in fact and although i dont top it up every day it still works-ish, the last two rads on the line, one either side of the house are quite often hot at the top but cold at the bottom. I have bled them till i am blue in the face, the whole system gets done but to no avail. I have recently changed the purge valves thinking that would be the problem...........still the same. Thanks anyway, Hugh.
  8. Hi all, just a quickie, the water pressure for my central heating drops every night after the heating goes off and is at zero when it goes back on early evening next day, is this normal or do i have a problem? thanks, Hugh.
  9. do a search for justin.tv they have all sorts on there, boxing, football etc watch man utd live today even !!!!
  10. I realise that in an ideal situation a person that lays a snare would strangle or entrap the exact creature  he wanted. But in the real world they do not discriminate if an animal gets caught in one. Hi Dog, strange as it may seem but you have just answered the question yourself, the snare in fact does trap/ensnare the animal, however by being anti lock it then offers the opportunity to release the animal that is wrongly trapped, albeit stressed. It is the people who remove the anti locking device that are at fault and cause the the death of animals in traps that they were not intended for.
  11. All snares sold in the UK have anti locking devices on them to prevent said snare tightening and causing undue suffering. Also snares are set at certain heights to avoid capture of animals of which they were not intended, for example, badgers move with their chins on the ground therefore will not get caught in a snare set for a fox ( different height ) which are set about 10 cm above ground level, whilst this may not make things more palatable it certainly defines the uses of a snare and also their intended victims. I do not set snares or advocate their use but have a certain knowledge of them gained from a previous working life. As to the original question i would imagine the same or similar laws apply in France, after all they are and do conform to european laws.
  12. Hey Frenchie, i always used to blame the crisps...ahem... never ever the obscene amount of alcohol i had consumed.........jelly eh, maybe try that one next time [;-)]
  13. HD scaffold and an hydraulic car bottle jack, slow but sure.
  14. Anton, i was expressing an opinion for other people to understand how heavy these beams are, personally i balance them two at a time, flick the joist holders up with my left foot and spit the screws in, ok, ok i hear people saying that's not possible, i admit to using twist nails, no-one is perfect. [;-)]
  15. In lay mans terms.....groin bursting, red faced vein bulging weight.........eat loads of spinach !!
  16. Hi Clair, wouldn't it be really funny if Major Knowles replied to your posting here on LF !![:D]
  17. Hi guys, now that this thread is over....i hope, here is another thing to mull over. I put my car in for its CT, citroen xantia 2.0 turbo diesel knowing that the front suspension was not pumping up properly, had a chat with the garage mechanic beforehand and he said no problem, and guess what he was right. The car came back with its CT intact and no mention of the suspension problem. Apparently the make and model is unique, my interpretation of the mechanics words, and as such the suspension has no bearing on the CT. Personally i felt that the car lost some of its cornering ability and as such made it more risky to drive, we live and learn eh !! If the mods move this to a new thread then thats ok, had no intention of starting one cos this was just a wee bit of info for all to see Regards, Hugh. And finally, thanks to all, yes to all,  who posted on this thread i'm sure there was no ill feeling or mal intention either way [:D]
  18. Cat, thank you for your intervention in this matter. Ron, I am Scottish and although there is another Scottish builder in the local area i am at pains to let anyone know who contacts me that we are not one in the same. I drive a French registered van, have been gainfully employed in the renovations industry here for four years ( running a business ) and offer all our prospective clients the opportunity to meet people we have done work for, there are people on our web site who would welcome anyone who wants to view our work, which is a big ask to invite strangers into your house, and also to invite them to ongoing contracts or supply references. Can i also say on the point of references how easy is it to supply names and addresses/telephone numbers of dodgy mates who will verify anything for a quick buck/euro ?? Basically i had the hump because you made reference to the fact that we had a few errors on our web site and then intimated that all was not as it seemed. Please do not take this the wrong way, but i have no need to prove anything to you because you are not a client nor a prospective client however in this instance,  if you wish contact me personally  i will supply you with all the info you require to satisfy any query you may have. If you choose not to then i will assume that you meant no ill will and as such i will accept your previous postings as an offer of good intention. To all others who have offered assistance in the original matter, thank you, the matter is now resolved....19.6 across the board for all car repairs [:D]
  19. .  With the level of suspicion about the registration and insurance of many "english" builders, particularly where you are from, Please explain the comment above, in particular the bit where you say ' particularly where you are from' PS i do not use a trowel, hammer, saw and chisels yes, so if you are so keen on people getting it right then look in before looking out, also you may deal with people in your walk of life that tell lies and you are now conditioned to having a suspicious nature. I do not like being called a liar, more so by someone who has no idea as to who i am and judges me by work done by others, re web site. So i will not resort by dropping down to a  'tit for tat'  level and hopefully after your reply to the above question we will see an end to your attitude towards me ??
  20. Hey guys, i asked a question about tva on car repairs. SD, i don't repair cars or renovate them cos i don't know enough thats why i renovate houses, mechanic v joiner see the difference !!  In relation to the tva number/siret number/siren number you got me there, if i give you the e-mail of the guy who set up my/our web site perhaps you could ask him that question, point is if i could have created my own website then i would have, much like the above point, i am a joiner not a computer expert.............................the fact is i am a qualified joiner and i am also registered with chambre de metiers, i pay my taxes, cotisations, tax fonciere and tax de habitation, i also pay my accountant the exorbitant amounts he requires to keep me within the LAWS of working in France. Some of you guys are extremely helpful and most often gracious in your replies, occasionally you tend to drift off subject and pontificate on other matters that bear no relation to the original question..........come to think of it if we all new as much as you all expect of us then there would be no need for this forum, then what ?????
  21. I don't, that's why i am asking the question.
  22. HI, had a quote for works at a garage and they say that if i take the parts and fit myself they will charge 19.6 % so by default if they fit the parts will they charge me 5.5 % or 19.6 %. So basically for the parts and the labour will it be 5.5 % or 19.6 %
  23. HI Pads, i buy a licence every year from my local chasse peche shop, this consists of a permis de peche ( permit to fish ) and also a club hallieuteque, which allows me to fish all over the south of France. This permit lets me fish any river of my choosing and also some lakes that are not private without any further payments to make. I believe that for private lakes you still need the permit over and above the fee for the private lakes. Hope this helps.
