1. I haven't tried my Lyca in the UK but it worked automatically last week in Germany & Poland.
2. OK in Charente this morning, we seem to have all the usual channels
3. No "black" propaganda needed - just look at the state of the economy. Increasing taxes left right & centre just puts more downward pressure on growth. No effective reduction in central costs - quite the opposite. All this from the man who said austerity was over. The incompetence of FH & his team would be laughable if things weren't so bad.
4. Low fat, low sugar. Loads of recipes on the net. Best tip is to ask your friend what foods they avoid and then take it from there. If it is only one meal it shouldn't matter anyway - unless your friend is obsessive about their diet.
5. If you haven't had a bill by, say, the end of September chase it up as they might try to charge you a majoration or late payment penalty - even though it is not your fault. You can then have the aggro of sorting that out too.
6. We record the ITV4 highlights every day & watch them sans ads. Their coverage is very good & we enjoy Chris Boardman's input too.
7. Thanks, I am researcing this subject against the (no doubt inevitable) day when Nationwide start treating their credit cards as they have done with their debit cards i.e.charging for foreign usage. Although there are "free" cards available from ING, Boursorama etc., they require you to have a cheque account & to pay in a monthly credit or leave a large fixed amount. With the SuperU card you retain your existing bank account.
8. Does anyone have one of these? I assked on another forum & got zero response. If so, any good or bad comments please? Also, specifically, can you use them at autoroute peages?
9. I wonder what all your friends are doing wrong! We've had a salt pool for 9 years & never had a "green problem" or even a clarity problem. Whilst not fit & forget it is certainly easy to maintain. I'll sit back now & wait for the brickbats from the anti salt pool folks[:)]
10. I saw adapters for UK plugs in the €1 shops and the small "we never close" type stores.
11. In Portugal (we were in Lisbon last week) French 2 pin plugs work OK but the larger earthed plugs won't necessarily fit. The sockets are like the German ones with the narrower sides. You can see some examples by typing "Portuguese electrical sockets" into Google & going to Images. Take a small screwdriver with you & buy a plug locally if you need it.
12. We've hardly had a winter this year. No real deep frosts, very little snow, although it has been very wet. The spring bulbs have started flowering & if it weren't for the cold wind it would be quite springlike. Just hope I haven't spoken too soon!
13. We have had them in the garden for the first time this year (in 8 years), including a nearly black one.
14. When we moved to France we realised that there might not be a local gym, so we have created our own in an outbuilding. Should you consider the same and be thinking of second hand machines, consider buying in the UK before you come here as 2nd hand prices for such items (and many others in France!!) tend to be higher than in the UK. For new, compare online at Decathlon.
15. My forms always come separately. The red ones came yesterday & I await the blue ones.
16. Perhaps Lewis was peeved at being jumped by Vettell for 2nd place when the safety car was out & not through merit - I would have been
17. Apparently they went bust. Looking up info online it says that there are several people interested in taking over but the winding up etc. is taking time even though there is an overall desire to get on with it - anyway that's the gist of it I think.
18. I've just found the article online and, sadly, it looks as if you are correct. We first tried it after seeing Rick Stein report on it and it did not disappoint. We had planned to go again later this year on our way back from holiday, so will have to change our plans.
19. CurrencyFair now works with the Faster Payments service - if the amount you want to transfer is within the limit for that (£5000 I think). Last time I used them it took less than 20 minutes for them to acknowledge receipt of my funds.
20.
Personally, I would never shop at Tesco as they are one of the most unethical supermarkets. Mrs R51
As defined by what, as a matter of interest
21. Well, I received a reply "Thank you for your email. Firstly, please allow me to apologise for the delay in getting back to you. We do endeavour to get back to all enquiries as quickly as possible, and I’m very sorry that we’ve let you down in that respect. Unfortunately, you can only register UK addresses at Tesco.com at this particular time. Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience caused. Please don't hesitate to contact me or one of my colleagues should you require further assistance. Kind regards Andrew Evans Grocery Customer Services" I find this totally amazing for such a large international company - it's almost "French" isn't it [:)]
22. Thanks again. I've been back to the site, without success & have now e-mailed to ask if I can change my UK address (which is our son's) to a French address. I'll post the answer.
23. Thanks. I did ask them on the 'phone & they didn't have an answer. Pehaps your original account was set up with a UK address? I only have a French address, which is, of course,  the same for my UK credit cards;
24. How did you get Tesco to recognise a French address for your card as there is no drop down choice available? When I recently ordered from them , for UK delivery, I had to place the order by 'phone.
