  1. I use this for the BBC channels plus CNN & ITV News. I used to be able to receive Sky News too on 12207 V 27500 2/3 but now there is no signal. Should I be able to get this free to air please - if so do I need to re-tune? Thanks, Graham
  2. I was delighted to read the recent thread which said that if you have the new 2004 log book then you don't need a certificate of conformity (at least in Creuse). Here in 16 the ladies in the Prefecture in Angouleme and in the sous prefecture in Cognac where quite unimpressed with the new form and said I needed the cert. Angouleme said get it from Renault (I had a quote of 120) and Cognac said go to DRIRE at Nersac. The lady I needed at DRIRE wasn't there but the (helpful) one I saw and left all the forms with again didn't know about the new arrangements. Does anyone know what the new directive is called or numbered and where I can get a copy or better still view on the net please? I am reluctant to shell out more euros than necessary if there are indeed new rules and regs. Any help appreciated. Thanks, Graham
  3. I was recently quoted October for a Megane CC diesel. Haven't got to asking for a discount yet so if anyone knows.... Graham (16)
  4. I agree that the stockholder savings aren't always good. I joined their Traveller scheme for homeowners and saved my registration fee on the first trip! They also give points which can be deducted from the cost of future bookings. On the Le Havre run we get a free day cabin too. Graham
  5. Thanks. Ordered it, came quickly, no P+P cost, v. pleased. Graham
  6. We're moving permanently this month. Yet to select a doctor but have read the threads here. In the UK, I have a 6 monthly "MOT" for my diabetes. I am fortunate that it is carried out at the GP's. Has anyone any experience of what is the norm (if there is one!) in France. My nearest towns will be Jarnac, Cognac and Angouleme. Thanks, Graham
  7. I can understand your anger but surely that's the whole idea of their pricing structure - if you book early you get a cheap fare, if you book late you pay more. By changing your booking you are, in effect, booking late. I can't see that contacting Trading Standards will help you - but by all means try. I don't wish to sound sanctimonious or as if I am making excuses for Speedferries, just observing the other side of the story. Graham
  8. Nationwide Flex account for cash withdrawals from a machine and their credit card for purchases in a shop. I use their cash back card and clear the balance each month by direct debit - cost effective and you can't miss a payment and rack up chatrges by mistake! Graham
  9. In English we have Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta, Echo etc. The only French equivalent I have found so far uses names - anatole, bernard, c'ecile, denise, 'emile etc. Is this common/correct or are there other recognised lists? I needed to use this when discussing on the 'phone a hotel's entry code. I can't remeber the word she used for "Y" but it was not yvonne. Thanks, Graham
  10. Thank you. This is a very useful link - and not just for building terms. It did not open first time, so I put it into Google and I think the third link it offered worked. Graham

  12. I have insulin dependent diabetes. In the UK I have an annual "MOT" with the specialist nurse at my GP's, with a 6 monthly checkup. Can anyone please advise me what the arrangements are if one is a french resident. Thanks, Graham
  13. I posted this to "Legal" in error earlier... I am considering retiring to France next year. I hold shares obtained under an SAYE scheme which are now worth much more than I paid for them, although with the depressed state of the market I do not currently wish to sell any. I have been told that ther is no CGT allowance on share sales for French residents. a) Is this true? and, if so, b) What are my options? Any advice will be appreciated, thanks. Graham
