  1. Thanks again to all those who have responded to my post, the information is well appreciated and will use the links wisely. Thanks especially to " Menthe " and " Dave Lister " for good advice.
  2. Hi, Thanks to all who have responded to my post. In my naivity, I thought I might be able to sell most of my house contents, rather than just have them removed. I have some quality items which could be of value, but perhaps, at my age (82) I am not sure of how I should clear the cottage. Any advise would be gratefully received.
  3. Hello, Can anyone advise me of a house clearing business that operates in the Dordogne/Charente area? All replies gratefully received.
  4. Hi Dave and all that have followed this post, Well, I am back in France now until the end of October. Yesterday, as advised by "Hectorsdad" I set up my signal finder and TV monitor and slightly Tweaked my 1metre dish to try and get the missing HD channels, unfortunately, as soon as I moved the dish the signal disappeared, I tried the tweak both horizontally and vertically, but the signal was lost by any slight movement in any direction. What is confusing, I can receive some HD channels but only a few and not the ones I want (ie; BBC ONE SOUTH WEST and ITV ) BBC TWO OK! Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Regards Ray Barrington.
  5. Hi Hectorsdad, Thanks for your info, Although I have a 1metre dish and a Humax HD Freesat decoder I have very little HD channels. The general feeling is, as you say, I may have to " Tweek " the dish a little to receive all the HD channels. Yes, I do have an alignment tester that I used to set up the original installation and on some channels I get a full 100% signal, but zero on BBC 1, BBC 2, ITV, etc etc; I am returning to France next month so armed with as much info as possible, I hope to solve this annoying peoblem. Thanks again all the help. sorry for the delay in responding.
  6. Hi Hectorsdad, Thanks for your reply, we have a secondaire in southwest France, and with the 1 m dish all has been well up until now, I have managed to get a couple of regional HD channels but no others, I am reluctant to fiddle with the dish as the HD channel I can get shows 100% good signal,so I am puzzled as to what to try next. Ray.
  7. Hi, Can anyone advise me as to what the future holds regarding UK TV channels. I understand all channels will be in HD format as from 2024. As my second home is in the southwest of France, reception is dependent on my Humax freesat box, a 1 meter dish tuned to the Astra satelite and good weather, even then we only receive TV channels in SD format. Anyone with technical expertise that can advise would be greatly appreciated.
  8. H EuroTr@sh, Thanks for the info, are you suggesting it would be possible to take the sim from the router and put it in a mobile phone to make calls?
  9. Hi Lehaut, By tanslating your message from Bouygues, "Hello , It's a mobile line number like on the Nomad data sim for example The sim must have a number which serves to identify it on the network Have a good day, " Do you think I would expect to have a mobile phone with the " Mobile Line Number " ?
  10. Thank you Martin for your time and explanation, well noted and will consider options. Most grateful for your advice. Ray.
  11. Hi Martin, Thanks for the info, the Bouygues 4G router I have does have a phone socket, to which I can plug in a phone, this can only be used if I pay extra for the connection. ( No phone line is required ). My question is, Why have Bouygues given me a mobile phone number? If I buy a mobile phone, would they give me a sim card? Sorry to be a bit vague but I do not speak French so conversation with Bouygues is not easy. Any more advice would be appreciated. Ray.
  12. Hi Martin 963, Thanks for your message, Yes, my Bouygues router does have a phone socket, but I will have to pay extra to receive a fixed line connection to it. However I understand the phone number they have given me is for a mobile phone, so I take it that if I buy a secondhand mobile phone I will need Bouygues to supply me with a SIM card! As I am resident in my holiday home I am able to use my English mobile phone, until I return to England in June.
  13. Hello, This is my 1st topic, so I am hoping someone can advise me on a mobile phone question. I have signed up with Bouygues for the 4G broadband and I am now connected to the internet. They also provided me with a mobile phone number, but I do not have a French mobile Phone. My question is can I convert my English mobile phone to a French number?
