  3. Thanks Val - I can't tell you how much I appreciate your help and support. Considering I am a nurse manager and used to organising things for some reason I seemed to be going around in circles on this one so you have definitely got me out of the bit and reasured that these things exist in France!!  Re the minister we have our own and I have already checked with the local Father and also written to confirm the date etc.  He seemed very happy that the church was being used and said he had had another English family do the same last year. 4. We live near Civray in the South Vienne and my daughter is going to get married from our house next May.  They will get married officially in England but we would like to have a service here in our home village church and have the reception in the garden.  We have our own minister but I have been given a list of other things to sort out!! Maybe someone out there has had to arrange a similar event so any advice gratefully received on the following: 1.   Where we can hire a marquee with a dancing floor 2.   Caterers who would be happy to do a hog roast as well as all the rest of the food 3.  We have access to benches but will need to hire chairs  4.   A white/cream Deux Chevaux. 5.   A caller for country dancing in the afternoon 6.   A band who may be able to do both country dancing in the afternoon and disco for the evening 7.   Are portaloos easy to hire? 8.   Flower market for fresh flowers or do people use flower shops  and lastly 9.   How to get people home to their B & Bs, I thought maybe we could hire a bus as I don't think a taxi service would be happy to go out on a Sunday evening Thanks you everyone.  I know we have a year and our neighbours think we are mad to be thinking about things this early but no one seems to know the answer to my questions!!
  5. Thanks one and all.  We will check ou the immobilier when we get over there in August and take it from there.  Although my husband is the one wanting to make his money grow and I am the one that wants to be settled in my own place.  Still we will have plenty of time to argue about it as we wont have jobs to keep us apart!! 6. Hello everone, We are moving to France at the end of August (counting the minutes never mind the days!) and are renting for six months so that we can house hunt quietly during the winter months when we won't get too easily carried away.  However it has been crossing our minds to rent long term and stick our money somewhere where it could grow. Does anyone have any views on this type of renting and is this a viable alternative to buying a property? I checked with 'rentaplace in france' and they seem to think we would have to go for unfurnished, for three years and through the immobilier which would be fine but I wondered if anyone had heard of owners renting for longer than a few months. My other question is whether storing stuff is cheaper, safer and a better idea in Fance or in the UK. Thank you Gilly
  7. Hiya, Having lived in France when I was a child most of the films that I remember date from that time.  The ones that stick in my mind are the comedies of Jacques Tati's - 'Mon Oncle' (1958) and 'Les Vacances de Monsieur Hulot' (1953).  Also remember enjoying 'Le Ballon Rouge' (1954) because being an English kid in a french school I had my fair share of mild bullying and for a time lived with the notion that I had single handedly burn Joan of Arc! 8. Thank you all.  I will pursue the suggestions put forward. A community children's nurse is a district nurse/health visitor but just for kids. I visit them in their homes and finish off any treatment they may require such as dressings or giving intravenous antibiotics.   Home care teams are a way of getting kids home faster where they are happier and saving hospital bed space. Although I could work with either adults or children as I have both qualifications under my belt, kids are much more fun to deal with...  I just wondered if France had the same system or whether I could introduce it!!!
