1. Dick, your note about hinges in the other thread reminded me that I had just received notification from Woodfit about their new or rather updated web site. http://www.woodfit.com  thought it might be useful and of interest to others about their range of furniture and kitchen fittings.
2. Mike Would be interested to know a little more about the vouchers.  Not permanent yet, but based in Loir when we do come over.  If I do get hold of any, this sounds like an excellent idea
3.
....The PC (on W98) still recognises the old 128M stick (phew!) and will copy to it. The laptop (running XP) recognised the new 1G stick with no trouble. Angela
One other thought, is the USB2 Flash drive, presumably in view of the size, backward compatible with USB1.1.  Can't really remember, but don't think Win98 would be ok with USB2.
4. I've seen them in the Brico's in component form - try the Brico Depot catalogue.  I don't have mine with me at this time
5.
Brico Depot stock two: the most suitable appears to be Rubson, brand, Mastic Vitrage HP, cat. no. 731459, at € 6,52 per 310 ml tube. They also list an alternative product, again Rubson, Mastic Silicone Isolant, No. 731454 at € 8,32 per 310 ml tube . Removing putty from a glazing rebate is always hard, mainly since no one seems to adopt the old wheeze of firstly painting over the rebate with primer. The putty gets right down into the grain and is a pig to remove without bits of wood. I tend to use a reversed chisel and then draw the blade over the last bits of putty with the blade absolutely vertical to level and if necessary, finally, some course sandpaper to flatten the surface.
Thanks Gluestick - thought I had looked everywhere in Brico Depot.  As to the putty, yes and some of it is rock hard.  Frightened to try any harder with my old chisel and mallet, yet other bits seem to fall away just looking at it. [;-)]
6. Re silicone does anyone have a trade name to look for?  Have started to strip back my white painted windows with a view to dark wood staining them, but the problem is what to do with the putty  (some parts really hard and difficult to remove other bits just falling away). I contacted Sadolin who suggested using silicone but would not give me a name.  My research has found a Dow Corning product but can't seem to find anything like it in France or enven here in the UK except to order over the Internet, but I would like to try a small quantity first.  I have found some brown putty and may have to work with that instead.
7. hi Chris Found one more that might be of interest:- http://www.ordersonline.co.uk/budetime/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_Quartz_Clock_Movement_Kits_5.html The middle one of the 3 shows length of hands driven to be 210mm and the drop down box shows max spindle of 22mm length Anyway hope this is of some help. Might be worth contacting them with your thoughts about carved hands?
8.
I'll post the clock when it's done, and if it doesn't work I'll blame you if that's OK?
hey No problem, I'll blame you for getting me interested again ;-) Cheers for now (if I can find the other details will gladly post it)
9.
So do you think I'll be able to recess a movement and fix it into the back of the timber pictured above? I want to carve the hands to the clock as well, how easy would it be to attach the spindle to the hands or would it be better to stick to the bought ones?
hi Chris I'm no expert by any means, but have always been interested in these things and wish I had time to get more involved.  (Now have my tools and workshop in France and spend most of my time in UK - have got something wrong somewhere) My thoughts would be,  recessing  with a router between say 6 - 12mm  thickness should be no problem, but doubt you could carve hands thin enough to fit on the spindle left? and not sure if the movements would cope with the weight.  Whatever you do, would love to see how you get on.
10.
I'm still not sorted yet.
Chris You may like to try this one http://www.ycbclocks.co.uk/  Theres no link to the actual page but if you look for Quartz movements, then Hermle Standard Sold singularly you will get this information:- Hermle quartz movement choice of short, medium, or long spindle. Short 10mm spindle suitable for   (1mm - 4mm Dial material thickness) Medium 16mm spindle suitable for   (5mm - 8mm Dial material thickness) Long 21mm spindle suitable for   (11mm - 13mm Dial material thickness)   I know I have others with diagrams, but just can't seem to find them at the moment. Hope it's of some help
11. ...and if its any additional help thats the flat side onto the windscreen.  Also if any help to anyone else, after having a new windscreen fitted, blue tac works very well as a non permanent replacement adhesive for the holder
12. Suggest it would be worth trying the battery route first.  Just remove it for 10-30 minutes.  Not very secure, but have known it to work on some machines in our college
13. Yes it happened to me - twice.  Both times I simply sent them an email.  First time they replied and credited the account.  Second time they just credited the account so no problems, but I carefully check every time now.  For what it's worth that peage is the new one and doesn't make any beep when it opens.  One other annoying thing though which I mentioned previously, very often one of the journeys gets processed late and charged the following month which then incurs the 2 euro transaction for use during that month.  Haven't tried querying that one so far.
14. Think you can set this up online as well try this link http://www.sanef.com/fr/ecommerce/espace/oubli.jsp
15. Assuming you know it, why not just create an address book entry for yourself
16.
... Why the hell should we have to but another OS when the one we have is not very old. It's only 3 years old and never raced nor rallied,....
John The theory is that when you buy a PC you have to buy an operating system, which can be upgraded etc, but when you sell it on again, in theory you are supposed to pass the operating system licence on, because it's effectively useless without one.  Of course none of this covers scrapping the old one or other scenario's, but just thought I would try to explain. Bill Gates needs to scrape up some revenue from wherever he can :-)
17.
In that case, what's the point of the doofer? [8-)]
Whilst I agree that would be a shame with a loss of that smug feeling, those of us driving r/h cars on our own occaisionally will always appreciate it.[8-|]
18. Haven't tried it myself yet but think I will need to do something similar one day.  My thoughts are to use a product something like Renaulac - Torchis a Cirer 'Murs Anciens' - this from my old Brico Depot catalogue priced at E20.90 per 15kg, but this is intended to produce a rough wall effect and is available in a few colours. Can't find the exact item on their web site but this link might help get you started:- http://www.renaulac.fr/en/produits_pro.php?rec=TOSCANE Several other makes available and some of the bricos have demo panels setup
19. Just a thought - not in France at the moment, but just looked in my manual for an Optex box that I have there.  Its not clear, but is there a possibility that there might be some adjustment possible where the "LNB type" is selected. ie my manual appears to be showing a frequency and if so may be adjusted at that point.  May be clutching at straws, but trying to help [:)]
20. Not likely to be of any help here, presumably as 2A and B channels are ok then it must be numerique (BBCi channels are on 2A I think) Have not seen anywhere to be able to specify 2D once the LNB is aligned to Astra 2
21. I'm no expert, but think we need to know a little more about the setup, in particular the second dish.  Is it the same and with a monoblock LNB and are you trying to link to the same digibox?  If so are you just swapping connections when necessary etc. As an interim, from my research 90cm would seem to be a bit excessive for France and smaller would be easier to align.
22. Although I have only ever used my card so far, it does give an alternative option to punch in just the booking reference number.  If I get chance one day with no queue, it might be worth trying.
23. If you do go ahead and it desn't work there may also be the option to try a loft mounted aerial?
24.
have tried to find an answer in previous threads but....... am i right in thinking that if i have an existing dish set up to receive via a sky (subscription) digibox, replacing the sky digibox with a new french (non-subscription) digibox and into a new french tv set,  free english channels like the Beeb etc will automatically be receivable ? profuse apologies if my patience let me down in searching for  a previous answer ........
I have written a bit more on another thread concerning an Optex one that I bought in Castorama.  Without going into all that, I can confirm that for testing purposes I brought it back to UK and plugged into my Sky setup here.  By changing its software language to English as I do struggle and the default satellite to Astra 2 it then "automatically" found the main channels we wanted.
