1. No, the French are against anything new or any change ... so having only 50% against is quite an improvement.
2. Thanks, Mint, only just back, had a big day .. new computer still not all quite back in place ... seems that it has been resolved  - sort off!  I understand enough from the fact that postal votes couldn't be counted until the vote finished, and that the in person votes were counted first ...
3. Well thank you, these postings have made the chaos much more understandable. I have to say that since the new President doesn't take over until January anyhow, what is the rush, unlike the UK where it's in/out as soon as the vote is counted!  Every vote, however cast, should be counted ... and if not, there would and should be a justified outcry.
4. Chessie, It's good that you are letting loose on us, we did say we are all happy to be your battering ram if need be.  I think you are being very brave .. I don't have the same levelof difficulty here, yet, but the signs are there ... as for DIY - who was it said, it's geting them motivayed that is the problem as sadly, as they get older, the declining skills (and I'm as bad, needlework and me with arthtitis in fingers and less brilliant eyes is no longer hte pleasure that it was, but just a chore). Keep smiling, ans as Lori says, take that time out ..
5. Even better news here - I've been "offline" for a week, due to computer dying .. and now managed to get back on .. having had to put in all my bookmarks afresh ...on the new computer .. as the backup had been done, but won't copy across (I think I said the wrong thing to one of the set up questions!),  so  now THAT is a turn up for the book with the forum!
6. That makes a lot of sense, I didn’t know much about his private life, just that he seemed to be very ready to go against the common grain or mould. It makes much more sense now.
7. I remember the hullaballoo when he died, but must concur with your thoughts about him, NormanH, though I do not (and did not then it was early days here for me) study politics to any great extent, and we only moved into the Herault that year, but I know many others like him in local politics, one of the reasons why some places work better than others.
8. Hoddy, yes, I agree.  Raising such ethical and difficult questions has to be done, but there are good ways and bad ways ..
9. Sadly there was no screening test for the one I'm fighting at the mo, not helped that it's manifestation was anything but typical and fooled the doctors for more than 2 years! But yes, I do the screenings that I am called for ...
10. Hi Mint, Monet is one thing, Banksy is quite another, and I am not sure the two go together, in this instance very well, though I quite get the point that Banksy is trying to make, it doesn't quite wash it with me .. masks, as some one else pointed out, would have been much more relevant at this moment in time! I too have some good memories of my visit to Monet's house and garden, one of wish list actions achieved on one of my drives north, and this rather ruins it for me, without misunderstanding the statement Banksy was trying to make, it does just not work.  But good that we can find humour, of whatever sort, at the moment ...
11. Thanks NormanH, as I suspected, we are 10-20 cases in 100,000 and still under exactly the same departmental control as those with many a higher number.  Even our next dept (2 mins away if you remember) has places with higher numbers ... and is not under restrictions.  Barmy.
12. Mint, I have yet to read that book, yes, it is on my bookshelves, but form my relatively limited I wil accept knowledge of the French, I agree wiht this.  In the end, change is never liked, integration is never liked (lots of examples in history there), and fundamentalism in any form is an unacceptable way of trying to keep control, but which is never addressed for fear of reprisal.
13. It seems we are, but the next dept, literally at the end of the village, is not.  Still the idea that a whole department has to be penalised ... the village dies at night anyhow, so why make it any worse.
14. OK, that I accept, IF you have a helpful prefec, ours isn't!
15. Yes, our favourite resto doesn't need to record us .. we have each others tel nos already!
16. Agreed, if you'vedone all the right things to establish yourself here, it does seem the new CdS appicatoin system has taken out many of the previous hoops.  It does means that my successful efforts to get one that last hot summer (was it really only last year .. I cannot now remember, it seems so long ago now!), will be rewarded with a simple exchange.  Phew!
17. Sadly, AnOther, it HAS all changed, ANTS or nothing, now!
18.
That was then the new applications will require far less evidence.
Highly likely, it seems, but they'll still have to prove residence if they do not have a CdS at the moment ..
19. 'Tis done ... for several reasons, including not having to continue to remember to go, it was done this am.  And yes, the pharmacist implied that there might be shortages this year.  Currently arm feels just a little tender, next few days will tell.
20. About as impractical as they come, I can see all that being followed - not.
21. When we got our CdS we had to supply notices of impots paid (not fonc or hab but income) for 5 years .. including the declaration we had made for that year .. that should remove the second home owners as they won't have income tax returns to offer. Or at least any income to show sufficient to live here if they have to declare rental income in France for example ...
22. Was planning to go this morning, it's colder today, so with luck that will disuade the motley ..
23. Toured E Germany in the later 70's, cannot remember whether there were bath plugs, but I do rememebr the plumbing was interesting, showers which wet the whole room!  Mind you, I still take a bath plug around even now.  Especially in Spain.  And now they produce sinks with no plugs .. even in France, they must think that everyone showers all the time.  Not in this household, in the morning no way, and any way OH is a bath person even now.
24. I remember many a discussion on rose tinted glasses before now.  Better to be warned, but then you can only take a horse to water .. My other mantra was always, research, research, even more needed now. And even when you've done all that, it can still all go pear shaped, and quite often does..
