1. Goodness, I only turned my back for a few minutes......and he's been and gone....
2. Leven, please be sure to read the forum code of conduct very carefully before continuing with this thread. Thank you.
3. Bi-carb is good, one tip I was given was to use tumble dryer sheets, so it may be worth closing the case with several inside.
4. Yes, I'm sure she would have had lots to say about Brexit and would have been prepared to take up the cudgels again if needed.... As for Trump!!!! We all miss her, but for those that don't know , Ian has remarried and splits his time between France and the U.K., he is still in the same house and her beloved horse is still going strong.....
5. Mr Coops , Ian, has posted on FB that it was eight years ago today that Coops left the Uk to go home to France and had her life altering accident.... I so often wonder she would have said when I read different posts....... I'll be raising a glass in her memory once the sun is over the yard arm
6.

always have a back strap I hate 'thongs' I just don't want anything between my toes.
Between yer toes [:-))][:-))][8-)]
You need to keep some younger company JJ, 'thongs' is what the young ones call flip flops...:-) well, here a outs anyway...
7. I sometimes drive in my ballerina crocs, but I find them pretty lethal in wet weather so for dry days only, easy to keep in the car though... my sandals are usually M&F fit glove or Hotter.....always have a back strap I hate 'thongs' I just don't want anything between my toes. I used to run up and down three flights of stairs in Dr Scholes sandals, wooden with just a strap.....great for your calf muscles but probably lethal ....I was MUCH younger then
8. Chancer, what you are wearing is not a flip flop.....it's got an ankle strap And if your comment refers to mine, then you may quote the whole thing....having someone you know in an accident because of inappropriate footwear tends to make the point... If you have ever moved your foot back and the shoe hasn't come with it, you'll get the picture....
9. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2396615/Flip-flops-dangerous-drive-heels-10-near-miss-wearing-them.html They can easily slip and get under the pedals apart from increasing braking time.....
10. I was taught never to drive in backless shoes of any kind, I don't and drummed the same into my daughter. Daughters best friend did have a flip flop related accident .....:-(
11. How about Chantal ? Or Clemence? But a lot depends on how it will sound in your American accent....there may be a big difference say between New Jersey and Texas......
12. Lehaut, Most trolls are here today, gone tomorrow, kind of folk.....that hardly describes Mint. Frankly unless anyone has anything of consequence to say my feeling is that the entire thread may as well be deleted.
13. I don't thing there are trolls, however I think a lot of the misunderstandings on this thread are due to the UK and the USA being 'divided by a common language'. I have often joked that I do better in France where I know my language skills are lacking and make more effort, than I am in the USA where I tend to think 'its Ok they speak English' Written down, thus losing the nuances of a facial expression or body posture, these things can be even more difficult.
14. Constance, maybe your desire for your daughter to be educated in France is guiding you, but as your husband will be retiring ( as I understand it ) how will you fare for Healthcare ? I have an American friend who would love to go to and live in France, but her healthcare provision is not transferable and as she too is retired French healthcare can be pricey That is a pretty major consideration. Secondly are you prepared for your worldwide income to be taxed in France even though you will still be required ( unless it's changed recently ) to submit a return to the IRS? Also please be aware that although an realtor may help you with questions on education, it s unlikely that they will take any responsibility for decisions made on their say so, it's essential you check the facts yourself Good luck with your research...
15. I've certainly hailed a taxi in Paris - no problem....
16. But won't that go into each countries individual coffers rather than a EU fund ? Oh and Andy the more Hollande indulges in this puffed up political posturing and pathetic foot stamping the more likely that scenario gets IMHO....and perhaps we could see La Pen, Merkel and May as leaders in the not too distant future..... ( Merkel and May sounds like a double act !!)
17. So let's assume that the UK doesn't really do any sort of deal and goes to WTO tariffs, thus doing away with the need for free movement of workers and has no need to pay the EU any money at all, how will the EU make up the shortfall in finances ?
18. I once tried the top, second and third restaurants in Dinan , rated on TA. After that I realised that other people may not share our standards, not in a snobby way but different things may be more or less important than they are to us. Sadly we lunched at Restaurant 1 before making for home and this was the year of the Brittany Ferries strike...so suddenly we had to drive to Calais instead of Caen ! The meal was so bad that I felt pretty poorly most of the way and I was navigating from instructions on the BF site..in a CiroenC3 Picasso, a car that was not comfortable for such a long journey......a never to be repeated experience. Within a few weeks we'd changed the car... For reference if in Dinan, head for Mr Robert, can't go wrong !!
19.
Oh now that's rather silly.... It is the numbers surely that is the problem. How many french schools have more than 60% British children on the roll ? How many towns or villages have more than 60% British resident ? Don't think selling baked beans and bacon to each other would provide much of a living either !!! Come on now - after all the French have taken over a whole part of London, with their own schools, and boutiques, shops and petanque .... why not have a go at them. Naughty, naughty.
There are certainly schools where English is not the native language of the majority of the children, and quite a few of them too.
20. Nick, I spent a substantial amount of time last evening deleting posts where personal attacks out weighed the substance of the post...if you have found something I have missed ( I didn't go back all the way though, but to where I could see problems started ) then please just say so and give me the date and time of the post by PM . And frankly it's all very well complaining, but there was hardly a rush to replace Q. And as he doesn't participate in this forum any longer my feeling is that jibes in his direction are inappropriate.
21. Mint, I could find a lot of fault with Cameron ( I also thought his last PMQ was excellent ) but he did two worthwhile things in my opinion, firstly legalising same sex marriage and secondly making it much easier to adopt children without them having to be in care for years. This will significantly alter thousands of lives. IMHO. Boris : I think is an extremely bright chap, quite bright enough to master control of his trouser zip which he seems to have failed at so far, let's hope he has learn't his lesson. ;-) As for TM making him Foreign Secretary I think it's a very adept move ...if he is great Mrs May will get plaudits for making a brilliant appointment, if he's not he will be dispensed with, and not only with his ministerial career but probably his political ambitions in tatters.....either way TM wins.... Garden Girl........between Mrs May and George Clooney Sonning is getting to be a very starry place !!!
22. My problem with Jeremy Corbin is that no matter how sincere he is he is apparently prepared to risk the future of the Labour Party on the alter of his own ego..... As for 'this silly austerity program' if we are not careful all we will do is leave a huge debt for future generations......
23. I'm not so sure that it would be another vote to remain in the UK unless the 'deal' suits Scotland....
24. Note from Moderator: Multiple posts have been deleted from this thread and further posts may be deleted throughout the evening. Due to the gravity of some of the accusations made some temporary suspensions of membership have been put in place until the Moderators receive guidance from Archant. Please keep posts on topic Your co-operation is appreciated Russethouse
25. But in the UK we do not vote for a leader, we vote for a party and a mandate ( and the EU vote was part of that mandate ) not a leader. As for the Labour Party I'm puzzled as to why it is that the party are prepared to argue the toss regarding whether JC can automatically be on the ballot paper but they are allowed to play ducks and drakes with the voting rights of members. Plus CT, you are assuming that people joined to vote for JC where the opposite maybe true....and the suspicion is that many people with not a Labour bone in their bodies previously joined to put JC in office just because he is such a liability......that is really an abuse of democracy and Labour needed to address it.
