1.
While I understand the logic of the link between taxation and voting rights, that would have granted me voting rights in 3 countries at the same time, which makes me feel somewhat uncomfortable. ... While nationality has its flaws, it does seem to provide a stable base for voting rights.
I currently have voting rights in two countries. Doesn't worry me in the slightest.
 2. NormanH said: Well 1) It seems natural to have the licence of the country you live in as one way of showing that you 'belong' Isn't it in the spirit of a carte de séjour or taking dual nationality, a way of showing that one has moved on from one's previous UK-centered existence? I haven't started wearing a beret or smoking Gauloises either. I fail to see why I should want to 'show that I belong'. If I need to prove that to a flic my Carte d'Identité should do the trick. Not that any of them has shown any interest in my driving licence since I first started driving in France in the 70's I had a 6 month window to exchange my UK one in 1997 so I did. Times and rules change 2) If you get any points you will have to get a French one anyway. Me? Get points? Never!!!! 3) My French (paper) licence is valid for life. And mine will be when I have to get it at the end of next year.
 3.
Surely those of us who live full-time in France have French Driving licences?
I don't. Why should I?
 4. Thanks, Nectarine. I'll have a nose. Sorry for the delay -- life gets in the way sometimes.
 5. Greetings! I'm in search of advice on small water lilies for my exceedingly small 'garden'. I need something that will grow in a 50cm (20") cube container on my balcony. Location is southern Brittany near the sea and we are on the 6th floor, so definitely not a frost pocket. Any suggestions for varieties or suppliers would be gratefully received.
 6.

when I put in my dossier I had to answer a few oral questiona about French 'culture': 'Name 5 presidents of the Republic'; 'Name a few French authors'.
Hi Albert, welcome back[:)] So, if someone can tell us the questions to the test, we can all pass and be French[I]
Ta! Actually, I had a sudden blank on the authors. I'm useless with names so I had to describe them, e.g. 'né en Algérie, écrit La Peste'. Struggled a bit with the presidents, too.
 7.
The link about getting a carte de séjour for people not in the EU is here: https://www.service-public.fr/particuliers/vosdroits/N110 The main difference between these and asking for double nationality is that there is no requirement for French Language with the carte de séjour, somthing that might be a hurdle for some older Brits
There is no need for a formal language test for naturalisation candidates aged over 60, although when I put in my dossier I had to answer a few oral questiona about French 'culture': 'Name 5 presidents of the Republic'; 'Name a few French authors'. More to the point, there are (I believe) different rules for EU and non-EU applicants and quite how a Brit applying after a pro-Brexit referendum but before formal exit would be viewed is an interesting question. I got my French nationality as an EU citizen and the spouse of a French citizen and apparently it's a slower process if you aren't married to a Frog. Sorry to come in a few days late. I've just wandered back in after a few years.
