  1. Just as a point of interest on your CDS where it says Nature ou Titre what have they put?
  2. I was looking for something on my dad's old computer and found this this document. It is the (translated) list of documents required by the Prefecture in Aude and was dated 29th March 2018. Sorry about the formatting, I just copied it. I notice that it does not ask when you came to France just "Proof of the right of residence during the preceding 5 years: 5 last complete tax notice." -PREPARE a DOSSIER with PHOTOCOPIES of all of the following DOCUMENTS: the documents must be translated into French by an official translator. The originals to be necessarily presented - title ID or valid passport. -DOCUMENTS of vital - extract from birth certificate - if married: marriage and family booklet with possibly pages of children - if divorced: judgment of divorce -PROOF of resources - Account statements in Euros - or proof of retirement, pension, by final payment Proof of the right of residence during the preceding 5 years: 5 last complete tax notice PROOF of home by recent E.D.F. receipt (if foreign hosted, attach handwritten attestation on honour of the landlord with his recent E.D.F. release and his national identity card or his residence permit) Proof of continuity of residence: any document proving the continuous stay: receipts of rents or charges, invoices etc. -4 passport photos (standard ISO 19794-5: 2005) -social security (sickness insurance) valid
  3. I have never understood those in the UK that object to ID cards. For me it's the same response to them, if you do nothing wrong what have you to worry about? Until I got mine I had to carry my passport with me because they would not accept my driving licence as ID proof as it was a UK one (they claim it my be forged) at the time. I have changed mine to German now anyway.
  4. My dad got a letter from the mayor but then there were only a few hundred people living in the village. He also sent a copy of the bill for his house purchase.
  5. A quick search on the internet for Brexit and France finds the following which is based on the withdrawal agreement as of 19th Oct 2019. Because nobody knows for sure if the UK will agree to it the two options are listed (agreement/no agreement) and further links. This is the official French government website. The only thing I got wrong was the cost which in France is only payable if there is no agreement. https://brexit.gouv.fr/sites/brexit/accueil/vous-etes-britannique-en/droit-au-sejour-en.html Of course BritinBretagne could be right and the French liars.
  6. But that's what Mr Farage said would happen and the Brexit supporting Daily Wail says the same so it must be true.
  7. European residency cards now follow the same basic layout i.e. credit card size with photo. The problem if you already have one of these card is it might say that your nationality EU/EEE/Swiss rather than British. If that is the case you will require a new one after Jan 31st because of course you are no longer an EU citizen. I believe you have something like 12 to 18 months to get a replacement which is free. The good news is the new one will be for the total limit of the card so if you were previously issued with a 10 year card and it has 2 years left your new card should be for 10 years. If you don't have a residency card then after the Jan 31st you need to get one. The catch then is you will have to pay for it. In many countries you will pay whatever the UK is charging EU citizens for their residency card which is around £85. What a member state charges you is down to them and there is no universal EU fee but the general consensus is it should be like for like. The only issue I have been told is there will be a limitation on how long you can be away from the country that issues the card and that the card does not give you the same rights as an EU citizen and cannot be used as a travel document inside the EU. Like I said that's what I have been told rather than what I have rad on any official government website so it might not be correct but then I don't care. Now having German citizenship it's not a problem for me. All I have to decide over the next 12 months is do I keep my German/EU citizenship and get rid of my UK citizenship because you can't have dual nationality in Germany (unless you are an EU citizen). Think I will be posting my UK passport and RN 04/2019 on Feb 1st. I will then await my callup papers to the EU army and the arrival of all these Turks when Turkey joins the EU next week not to mention the total collapse of the Euro and EU over the next 18 months.
  8. Nearer 50km centre to centre but then that's not always correct if when driving at night with no traffic. I go to Neuss quite a bit because Toshiba produce a lot of bits for our systems and that can take an hour yet it is nearer to me, It's a bit like flying. A flight takes an hour but the journey can take three or four. I am based near Niehl across the road from the plant and Niehl is to the east of Cologne and the train takes over an hour as does driving if you take into account traffic to get to the Autobahn which is to the west. Anyway I get weekly updates and I agree what is coming out now is more to do with EU citizens in the UK or business in general and permits for moving stuff back and forth. Not much that would be of interest to expats. Like you say what had to be said has been said. It is interesting though to swap experiences and the English guys at work that went said they slept through most of it because they already new and the couple doing it were, well just boring.
  9. nomoss - Due to your predictability you really are so easy to wind up. It's like wind then press the red button. Now off you go.
  10. "I hadn't even heard of them before. Mind you down here it would probably be in Montpellier or Marseille which I couldn't get to on my mobility scooter" The nearest to me is Dusseldorf which is an hour and a half drive away. There have been two and they tend to start at around six which seeing as I normally finish between five and six is not a lot of use to me. The last one was in October and I was away in the US doing some trials so I wouldn't have gone anyway.
  11. Always the need to have the last word there nomoss, sad old fella. Why do you feel the need to go round throwing stupid comments into serious threads. Must be an age thing and a need to be recognised.
  12. I see Germany and Spain are about to run another load of these meetings across their countries but noticed that France wasn't mentioned in 2020. I don't know personally of anyone who has been to such a meeting in Germany and wondered if anyone here (on this forum) has.
  13. "I am surprised that you dont know anyone with a Free.fr ADSL abonnement as they are I believe the major FAI in France because all of their landline numbers start with 09." Why would I?
  14. Probably Skype but then most people don’t use Skype these days. I use Facetime to talk to my mates on their mobiles because it comes imbedded in my company iPhone and as there is no charge my company does not have a problem with personal use. Phoning landline numbers are free from my home land line so that's not a problem. I personally don’t know of anyone with a number that starts with 09 but if they did and they have a problem calling be I would say have a word with your carrier then because I am fed up getting these calls that all come from numbers starting with 09. Just to say these devices don't stop you making calls to 09 numbers but when I tried to call them back on a missed call the number is not available (yes I was that naïve for the first couple of missed sales calls).
  15. My dad had this problem before he went back to the UK and I bought him a Callblocker. I have grabbed it and am now using it myself. Marketing companies use Internet IP phone systems which in Europe means the area code starts with 09. This is a none geographical code so it can come from anywhere within Europe. Having contacted CPR who make the Callblocker last week they said you can block Internet IP marketing calls very easily. If you have one of these CPR Call blockers then you need to dial the following.: **7#6*# then hit the green button on your phone. This code is not in the manual for the Callblocker. Your Callblocker will now block all numbers starting with 09. So far so good and these calls have dropped to zero from about 10 per day mainly in the evening just as I have my dinner.
  16. Do you speak French being Canadian? I know many do depending which part they come from. When I sorted out my fathers estate there were some bills to pay and I know I was able to phone his local Tresor Public and give them my credit card details over the phone. They spoke a little English but then most nationalities do if you try to give them money. They posted me a receipt afterwards, quite efficient actually for the French I thought. Just a thought.
  17. I am sure you read your insurance policy! Doesn't matter what country you are in if there is an excess you will be told by the broker and it will definably be on the actual policy. You are quite entitled to take it to another garage and get an estimate.
  18. If you start asking how safe Blagnac and Mirail are you might find that mugging, street gangs and crime in general if rife in the are. There is quite a bit on the Internet about it if you go looking. Any city it is worth putting you car in longer term Airport parking. The reason is pretty obvious yet it benefits you i.e. terrorism and more recently drone issues. The parking is very well patrolled, there is excellent CCTV and of course they need the parking car to get the car out. You might get lucky and the parking may not be at the hotel but at the airport. The hotels often buy block parking which they sell on to guests which I suspect will be the case. PS. Bit of a childish attempt at insult with the name there PaulT. Some people are stupid and others are born stupid.
  19. "getting diagnosed is another problem". I guess the first problem is getting the person to see a GP. My mum just started to complain that she couldn't remember things in the near short term. Could remember things from years ago without a problem. They both thought it was just part of getting old, going into the room and forgetting why you went there. It's when you don't know what room your in that it's time to worry. No mention of any type of illness was mentioned, it was more or less "well when we next go to the GP it might be worth a mention". From GP through scans and the testing my dad said everything was done on a "lets just check to make sure everything is OK" so my mum wasn't that concerned. Once the testing was done (at Carcassonne hospital, scans were done at the Montreal clinic nearby and the PT scan at Toulouse) they went back to get the results a few days later and that was when the diagnosis was given. Everything just slipped into place from there. The people that helped my dad was more like having somebody to let of steam to by phone or email. Basically he was allocated one person as a contact point. Later as the disease progressed it was "easier" to get her out and about strangely enough which enabled them to go to coffee mornings etc. My dad could also got a "break" for up to a week where my mum was placed into temporary care. This was also organised through the hospital. The hospital also had a social worker who can help with claiming the money for home help etc. I seem to remember he got something near a thousand Euros a month all in or so he said. Just to say the violence side is not amale thing. My mother took a carving knife to by dad twice. The first time he had half a dozen stitches, the second time he knew or sensed what was coming and evaded it. I know the first time was true because I saw the stitches on his arms when I visited and he was forced to tell me. I know he was very worried and thought they would take her away and lock her up which of course they didn't. They just changed her drugs a bit. I can't even start to imagine how you live day by day with all this going on and the constant worry which is why I sort of consider myself lucky.
  20. "This is about a carer who needs to try and get help and all I can think is that that is imperative". My response was a bit glib Idun, I apologise. I am at work although now is my lunch. I absolutely agree but it is beyond the scope of this forum other than to point in general directions. What alarmed me (and others) was the fact that the husband had been abusive towards the wife both mentally and physically which is just not on especially as there is help out there which both you and I (and possibly others) know there is. At this stage it is more to do with action rather than thinking on it and I think enough information has been given now and just needs to be acted on. People like your dad, mine and hundreds of thousands of mums and dads in cases like this are the real "hero's". Like I said watching this happen to someone you care about and have lived with for the majority of you life is difficult. I just hope she pays attention and is seeking the help she needs and now knows she can get.
  21. Idun, you have just wasted your time replying because I was absolutely not referring to you (it was a bloke and he knows who he is and is stalking from another thread again).
  22. Indeed what better way that to look on Google or Booking (.com), the latter gives reviews of people who have actually stayed in the hotels. I have never had a problem using the latter, they do as they say on the tin, bit like Ryanair. Personally as it is for one night the cheapest would do whatever chain that is in France. I am sure you can both manage that? I would think that last thing anyone would do is give a recommendation of a hotel on a forum like this. What one person likes another will hate or it will be too cheap or too expensive and the fact that have not received an actual reply to you question(s) sort of proves my point. Either that or nobody knows. In my opinion only those that need to stay in Toulouse for business would stay there, the place is a tip and I certainly wouldn't wander the streets at night. I hope the parking is secure and it says so for any possible insurance claim. Oh and age and intelligence do not go hand in hand, some young people are pretty stupid as are many old people. The difference is young people have the opportunity to better themselves whilst old people, well they simply die in ignorance.
  23. I was pointing out that you should ask for professional help and others have said the same. There is a big difference between parking your car at Toulouse and Alzheimer's. You might also like to look in the mirror, you have done your share of being nasty and extremely rude. One only has to read your replies to Richard for example. So get back in your box and talk about the limited amount of things you know something about. To think you have the audacity to complain about people making stupid non relevant comments in threads just to make some childish point. I suspect you will now make some stupid comment and ruin another thread as is your way.
  24. The advice is available i.e. Google, a search engine, to search, to seek etc. etc. A lot of people just can't be arsed to do the work and expect others to do it for them. If it were something difficult and answers were not so readily available then fair enough but to ask something that has hundreds of replies when Googled (or Binged come to that) shows it is a very simple answer to get if you can be bothered to search. The reason most if not all hotels near the Toulouse airport do not offer long term parking for those staying one night is because it is a very popular place that has a huge turnover on one and two night stays mostly to do with the massive hospital site (and I mean massive) with the only PET scanner that side of France. Being the home of Airbus and the European Space Program is of course another reason for fast turnover. I guess I just don't like lazy people especially when the have to do very little to find an answer and expect others to do their work for them. You could of course rent a room for 15 nights which would guarantee a parking space.
