  1. You can sign remotely from the UK from your own house. https://www.notaires.fr/en/notarial-profession/role-notaries-and-his-principal-activities/power-attorney-notary-how-sign-online You don’t have to be present. All you need to do is to find someone locally in the UK who speaks French to help you through the language process and sit beside you by your computer. Other thoughts, an English speaking Notaire does not really bring anything to the table. It is a French transaction so French language will rule. Or I guess, you could sign with the Notaire in Bordeaux remotely. Forget what the agent is telling you they will do what is easiest for them. They have to earn their fees. And in France, most if not all don’t. Estate agents in France are the biggest laziest rip off merchants you could imagine. I would never sell or buy through an Estate agent. But that is now beside the point. You are the buyer….its your money and your life….YOU decide what is best for you. Not someone else.
  2. I joined the French entree forum about 10 years ago. Got banned a million times for being clever. I don’t understand how French forums existed before 2002 (lets say) because Frrance was on dial up for internet. Just reading the BBC news websites in those days was a nightmare.
  3. Ooh Gurdian…Im just messing about. We use BF all the time. We have been across 3 times last year. Which is a record. I prefer St Malo to Caen when going to portsemouth. The food is crâp on board to be fair. Beer is ok. I used to work a lot with BF (truckline) when I had a job in my logistics days. A really nice company to work with. P@O out of Portsemouth on the other hand ! Eek.
  4. I hate going from France to Portsmouth on Brittany Ferries. Six hours on those feckīng dirty boats. Does my head in. And the food is beyond crâp. Nothing to do. No wifi. No nothings. Just look at the sea. You have to enjoy the passport queues in Caen and then in Portsmouth……which can take an hour…and then the Passport queues in Caen on the return. Which can take an hour. Remember the days when you drive on and drive off. Quicker by dinghy these days. But I equally hate driving to Calais to catch the shuttle. Ryanair and hire a car wins everytime. That saves planet. Not. Anyway…..yeah….Brexit…tremendous success. I like Portsmouth BTW…its a nice city.
  5. To be fair, it was a very thick question the OP asked. WTF would you bring the dog to France ? Lol. The cost, the hassle, the stress on the pet. Jeeesus.
  6. Whatever you choose to offer make sure it is at the market price. Whatever the price it is being advertised at is not its market price. I can guarantee you that. The French housing market is on its knees….go play with the offer you make.
  7. No particular order… Biden, Macron, Trump, Keith Starmer.
  8. Chill. The height is the issue. Most if not all are adjustable. Just make sure you find one that is approximately the same size as the one you have. 20 euros from Leroy. It is a fiddly job replacing them though.
  9. I have found people across all of France welcoming and open. Well..apart from Lyon.
  10. Have you ever seen 20 degress in February in France ? Well….we had 20 degress today in February. Bring on the summer…..not. 40….45 degress perhaps ?
  11. I have seen many French people buy and sell as they get on on wiith their lives. Just saying.
  12. Bigmouth strikes againAnd I've got no right to take my placeTo the Human race I found this from 2017 https://pro-seloger.com/la-rics-une-institution-au-service-des-professionnels-de-limmobilier/ rock and roll This question has been asked somewhere else and OP has not responded to no one. So who cares anymore. The lovely Dordogne…where Brits like to get taken for a ride.
  13. If you have a Richard Le Droff showroom/shop near…..go pay them a visit. Our one is excellent. They will recommend you the best one for your needs. The thing you have to consider is serving because you have to trained on that particular brand. So it will be better to buy one from someone that also services them. Now, we were thinking of a pellet burner for our rural house but decided against it. Instead we bought a gas bottle powered stove that lights up like a log fire. It costs 400 euros and heats the room. That allows us to run the open fire less…or when we just fancy a fire. Cheeper option.
  14. Googled it….would not waste my time or money. Nobody in France employs these people. They are expats for expats. And will charge accordingly. Complete nonsense. Nothing is legal or binding. They can say what they want without recourse.
  15. I get the new cooker….I mean if I can fix ours (it needs a new electronics card) I will still use it. But….countertop grills are the best invention since a washing machine that sends you emails when your washing is done. Lol Our little oven will do a chicken for 5. I sauté potatoes. Never roast. So I don’t need that extra space. You take your meat out and let it stand…..and then do your yorkshire puds. I cant think what else goes in an oven with a big meal. BTW…3000 degrees for a pizza is going to melt that glacier in Charmonix a lot quicker. Lol
  16. Hello You don’t have surveyors in France. That said, every house being sold have to have a number of diagnostic reports undertaken at the expense of the seller. These are the reports….. https://www.service-public.fr/particuliers/vosdroits/F10798 You need to look at these. They will highlight your biggest and most expensive problems relating to the house. In terms of the roof….it would be better to get a local roofer to have a look. Your main concern is if the roof is asbestos which a lot are in France. Very easy to spot. In terms of structural issues….that is up to owner to tell you. But, If the house has cracks in the render or whatever then you have problems. Your biggest concern when buying a house is climate change (heat stress on you and the house)….don’t underestimate this. This is your biggest consideration. Your second concern is access to healthcare facilities. Just because there are doctors in the area does not mean they are taking on new patients. Lastly…(and this is the good news) whatever price the house is selling at is not the price you will pay. Knock the price down. Make sure you pay its market value not the value the owner thinks its worth. That could be tens of thousands sometimes hundreds of thousands. That will pay for all the renovations. The housing market in France is in crisis. Its a buyers market. So enjoy
  17. I have given up on ovens. We have a so so upmarket countertop grill oven. 300 euros maybe. It is truly fantastic…and makes the crappy 1000 euro electrolux oven look rubbish. Which is still broken. I just want twisty knobs….I don’t neeed a setting for every recipe. Heat is heat. That brings me onto washing machines. Our washing machine has loads of different cycles. We just use ‘express 30 mins’ for everything.
  18. Not exactly. You see, I like CF because people are nice, charming and gentle. So I post for free. I love you all. Other forums are a bit…hmmm…rough so to speak. So they have to pay me to post. My time is money. They all refused. And now every other forum is dead as a dodo. More fool them. I could bring them all alive again tomorrow…but you have to pay. Bit like playing Glastonbury…Micheal Eavis has to pay ALBF for him to turn up and woo the crowds.
  19. I was right ! I have said soo many times over the years. French schools have become a zoo for delinquents. France just can’t get a grip when it comes to schooling. Its all over the news BTW. I will give Mr Macron a tip…..ban phones in school.
  20. Well….the first six years in France (Paris-Lyon-Paris)….internet was dial-up. Which was useless and slow. Then we moved to a stony cave in the middle of rural nowhere and internet was not dial up but still very slow. But that said I was far too busy doing renovation stuff to care. That took 8 years. So yeah….I lived a rural cave. Did not need the internet. In the last few years living there I did start using it for business. But that was all. Then we moved here. And being in town/city the internet is electric so you get to discover stuff that you really don’t need to discover. To be honest, I think the internet is the scurge of society. We don’t need it.
  21. Like minded souls…..lol…..yeah….I have so much in common. I discovered French forums about 13 years ago. OH bought me a new computer when I did my shoulder in and I spent weeks discovering the Internet. I stumbled across a French forum and could not believe what I was reading. Plucked up the courage to join and have never looked back since. Although I am down to my last French forum now.🙃 I still remember my first post ‘why did you move to France’. Lasted for 10 pages. 😀 I like creating silly threads…..like this one.
  22. They are very easy to repair yourself. But, the oven should be on its on circuit. In theory (i am no electrician) only the oven should have tripped.
  23. Fear not, kababs and sushi are fine. Just that foreign French food in France that is causing the problem.
