Thanks. I plan to retire somewhere near there but I also plan to buy 2 apartments for rent to keep the cash flow going so I take note of the unemployment but I don't think it will affect me too much.

Does anyone have any knowledge of the Gironde? I have been on holiday there several times and want to live there but I would like to hear from someone who has already done this to see what their experience is? I love the area around Hourtin.
