1. My new GPS has come up with two words that I've never come across before. As they are spoken I have no idea how they are spelt, so can't look them up in the dictionary.

Any clue as to what they are would be helpful.

The first sounds like 'germo' and seems to be when the requirement is to follow the 'main' road as it comes to a junction where another road splits off.

The second sounds like 'christies' and is used mainly on dual carriageways and motorways when leaving at a junction (christies a droit)

  2. This is a follow up article to a recent headline case in the region, concerning the death of an infant.

La mère de Christelle Mourlon, Laurence Boucher, Claude Dionnet, son

beau-père, et Pierre Bouton, son père biologique, ont décidé de se

    porter partie civile
, annonce ce lundi soir leur conseil, Me Gilles-Jean

    Portejoie.

The bit I'm having trouble with is underlined and in bold - it is obviously 'legalese', but what does it mean in practice?

  3.
We have found this company to have one of those rarities in France - good customer service and helpful staff so have been patronising them a great deal this year!  Meant to ask when we were over there in July whether they deliver as we want to pre-order a large quantity of slabs and wood ready for our visit in November.  Does anyone know offhand?  Thank you
phone them and ask ?

  4.
On comparative prices, and in the other direction, besides houses and wine...

..in the UK I've been running my own personal boycott of coffee filter papers, which cost £2.00 plus for 80. For the last several years I've been using kitchen paper instead. The other week in Intermarche I found that they cost €0.65. Bought four boxes and brought them back to London, and they didn't take up much space or weight in my bag. Should last me a while.
Again the other way - a simple gate latch (something which is impossible to find in France) for the grand sum of £1.68

    Postage to 'europe Zone 2' - £33

After you login there is an 'announcement' hidden away at the bottom LHS of the page[:)]
Just logged in and nothing like that on my screen but I do note that sometime since yesterday evening a high priority message has appeared in my inbox but I had to proactively go into 'My eBay' and Messages to find it !

Indeed, 'pathetic' does not begin to cover their response [blink]

  6. For those of you who assumed that as this is a French Forum, French Legal Issues etc.... - Yes it is about France

I've dealt with the ones in the UK before and just wanted to know if the situation is the same here.

Also, if there are any others who have right of access - France is after all a different (in many ways) country [:D]

  7.
35 ans : L'anniversaire qui facilite vos projets. Pour ses 35 ans, Bricomarché s'engage pour vous offrir les prix dont vous avez besoin pour pouvoir réaliser tous ...

It's Bricomarche's 35th birthday. I imagine the pub probably does mention that somewhere, but maybe it's in the small print [:D]
Ah, Yes - just found it on the website - a lot more obvious than the tiny '35 Ans' above the logo on the flyer

  8. Just had a publicity leaflet through the door from Bricomarche offering power tools at discounted prices  -

    "L'Anniversaire qui facilite vos projects"

What does Anniversaire mean in this context?

Even my ginormous Larousse dictionary still maintains it means birthday / anniversary [:)]

  9.
Does this explain it?

They ask for stage payments. But it's not on revenue for 2014, it's taxes payable in 2014 for income earned in 2013, ie the income you are declaring round about now.
yes, it does - thanks

  10.
As I understand it they now lump your tax together with CSG contributions. If this exceeds the threshold you will pay three instalments based on last year's bill through the year. The last instalment will be adjusted to reflect what is due from your submission that you are doing now or in the next few weeks.
That seems to make sense considering the amount they are asking for. I don't suppose you have a link to the new system?

  11. Hi

We've just received an email directing us to impots.gov for a tax bill on revenue for 2014

    Going onto the site in my account I find;

Année    Impôt                                                        Modes de paiement    Total dû    Total réglé    Reste à payer

2014    Impôt 2014 sur les revenus de 2013

So, we are now paying taxes before we declare our income?

Anyone know anything about this - before I go into the local tax office and make an idiot of myself?
