1. Thanks John, will make a note of that. I have a photography course at college next semester, and would like to get a better lens before then. I have a UV filter on my current lens, it really amazes me that they don't fit these as standard. As you say the extra protection for very little cost.
2. A few months ago, I received a water bill from the Tresor saying I hadn't paid my water bill from two years ago. Of course, I wrote back and queried this as it is very strange. Turns out for whatever reason, the payment hasn't been made, but I don't know why it's taken this long for them to work this out. Anyway, I find it amusing how quickly they respond to my letters. Twice I sent a letter to them from the US, and twice they respond as soon as they get it and request payment. Me, I've been acting like French bureaucracy and taking a few weeks to reply each time. It's just funny being in the driving seat for a change, and me making them wait.
3. I accepted an offer on my house last Friday, but haven't received the Compromis de Vent yet. Agent says he will send it by email to me. I know there was a holiday and everything on Monday, but I'm surprised it's taking this long to get the paperwork to me. Is it usual to take this long? I've emailed the agent to find out. When I received offers on my properties in Australia, the contracts were sent very quickly to secure the deal. Agent would even work into the evening to get the paperwork sorted. With the way the market is at present, I'm amazed that this hasn't happened in this case too. Is it normal to wait this long?
4.
I see that you're up to date. This dates from 2007! The only people likely to be offended, surely, are right-wing, fundagelical members of the NRA. I don't know how up to date this is, but I believe that only about 10% of Americans ever acquire a passport - so life outside the USA for most is a totally unknown quantity.
True, but the States is larger in size than Europe, so going from California to New York is possibly just as big a culture shock as going from France to Italy.
5. The actual date of the anniversary when he was crucified was Thursday April 5 this year (being Nisan 14), so they are again wrong on their dates. Funny how they insist on celebrating his birth on a date he wasn't even born on, yet rarely get the date of crucifixion right.
6. I love my Canon 400D, even though I only have a crappy standard lens with it. I was very worried last year when I was taking lots of action shots and on the continuous shooting setting. I kept getting error messages when shooting more than 5 shots at a time. I stopped using this feature, and thought I'd have to send the camera to be repaired. The other day, I took my camera out but forgot my card, so had to buy another one (was really angry at myself, it cost $20 just for a 4gb card). Anyway, I shoved it in, and started taking continous shots again, not thinking about it. It was only after a while I realised that everything was ok, so it must have been my old card that had an issue. So now I don't have to send my camera back, and will instead spend the money (when I get it) on a decent lens. Any suggestions on the lens?
7. From my perspective, France is a wonderful place to live - if you have money. This is only my opinion and what I have personally experienced, but I felt when I had to make money in France, my every move was blocked. To start up a business was a nightmare, the auto entrepreneur scheme that looked good to begin with, is a complete rip off, and finding work is nigh impossible. It always felt like I was being punished for trying to work. Since I moved to the States, I have found opportunities that I have never had before, and although I'm not allowed to work on my visa, I feel that there is far less oppression here. When I finally am allowed to work, I hope to take one of the many opportunities that have already come my way. I know that is a very narrow view of things, but I've always felt that about France, if you don't have to work, it's great, but as soon as you do, then it feels like you are punished for it. Guess that's socialism for you, I don't know.
8. Unfortunately, it's the economy that's pushed it down to that price. But somebody is going to get a bargain.
9. I must have been away some time then. it looks very pretty now :) I dropped €30k, so it's up for a little under €60k now. Hopefully that will be enough to sell it. I have another agent on board now. He went round to view it, and the silly sod forgot to shut the front window. Couldn't believe it, the front of the house is right on the footpath too, so anyone can just climb in. Nothing inside to steal, but nonetheless very unprofessional of him. I only found out today when my neighbour sent me an email about it.
10. Mr Ceour de Lion here, resurrected as II. How is everyone. I've had issues logging in for ages, and gave up in the end, but finally I was able to register on this nice new shiny forum. Must say it looks very nice, very professional. French Entree has just updated theirs too, must be something in the air. As for me, am still fine and dandy in the good old US of A. Still haven't sold my house, but just dropped the asking price right down to see if I can get rid of it that way. Heartbreaking to see the money and time and effort go to waste, but that's the way the world is at the moment. Anyway, will say toodle pip and will pop in more often now I can get into the forum :)
