  1. No, not at all regular. In fact very rare. But recomande or registered post doesn't seem to function between the two countries. Most of the mail I receive from the UK via royal mail go via Germany???
  2. I have a bit of a conundrum here. Through a sale of some shares in the UK the seller insists that they settle by cheque in spite of other previous transactions with them being dealt with electronically. What would you do? 1. Send the cheque to my UK bank and send the money to France via transferwise and risque yet another loss in the post or 2. present the cheque to to my thieving french bank and ask them to convert into my account? I'm interested to hear your thoughts.
  3. My OH working in an auberge corrected a chalked up English menu "Lambs legs". No she said it is "Leg of Lamb". A couple of days later the menu announced "Leg of frogs". You can't win!
  4. Salmonella generators. Instead cook the food properly indoors then spray with aerosol BBQ flavoured stuff available in all US supermarkets and carry outside. The men can still wear chefs hats and wave things over an unlit BBQ pretending they did the work. If done carefully it can be odor free.
  5. I follow the same rules as the locals. I drive at the same speed regardless of conditions or speed limits. When I turn I don't use indicators because they only cause confusion. I don't drive past ten o'clock on the speedometer. No idea of what kph that is. It's worked ok since the last incident.
  6. It's years since I received paper statements for my UK current accounts but I still get them for my credit card with a major high street bank. It's purely so that I can prove I have a UK account. The statement is a four page A4 letter I've just received last month's statement dated 24 May (It's now the 17th June). The envelope Royal Mail stamp has been been overlaid with a 'Deutshe Poste' stamp. Good thing I'm not relying on the statement for confirmation of liquidity. What a waste of time and paper and efficiency!
  7. Boiled eggs are difficult because success depends on size and more importantly age. Can't guarantee results unless you have already experienced results from the same batch. Poaching is much easier because you can see what's happening. I'm only referring to the degree of cooking not the mess up that I usually create which tends to look llke a bad copy of the milky way!
  8. Hand a copy over to your insurance.
  9. If you are reporting UK pensions you would be doing it on 2047. Pensions declared in the first section are not automatically 'reported' ie copied to 2042 so you have to enter the pensions in 1AL/AM etc as you've noted. If you also have a french pension then you would use 1AS etc as well. If this is greyed out then you haven'e declared that you have a french pension on the page where you declare what you're declaring (I'm not Irish|).
  10. It changed three years ago, so for the last couple of years you have inadvertently being been declaring your pensions as French pensions but it made no difference to the outcome of your tax liability. Now they've tweaked the software which now knows you're not really french...:-)

no need for credit cards. They're interested in money laundering which can't be done with credit cards...

    Amazon deliveries

Seem to be, but I think the items might have been shipped from non french warehouses.
  13. Every 28 days for me, so 13 a year. There's one lovely month when I get two payments. I don't think the frequency is the same for everyone.
  14. Marino 60 square metres. I think you mean square millimetres.
  15. Turns out the Lot isn't red. Data error. See all the local (indignant) press!
  16. I hope you don't mean 'dispenser', but I don't know what the term is!

    Bread

Back to using flour with levure incorporee. It is not SR flour and now I've tried it . The result was just as good as using active dried yeast in the normal way in a machine. Couldn't be easier, just the flower and water. Ne extra salt or sugar or oil. OH found the flour in Nettos, but I've never noticed it before. Of course using a machine no needing kneaded!

    Bread

For sliced bread in our local baker they simply slice a loaf and put it in a bag. Harry's American sandwich bread is sweetened, fermented polystyrene.
