1.  I want to be able to keep an eye on my classic car. I would also like to know where it went last time it was serviced as it came back with around 100 kms on the clock extra - some test drive !! Has any one fitted a tracker to their vehicle in France or could recommend any devices ?
2. Is there any reason why we should bother with Sky TV now that Freesat is available which gives all the same channels without the need for a viewing card or a UK address. I think that the HD HUMEX (sp?) box does everything that the Sky digiboxes can do so why bother with Sky ?  I think that they are bringing out a HD freesat both with a built in DVR or is that out already ?  Should I buy now or wait until prices come down ? Any comments ?
3. Yes - if you write in on the back of the card you'll always have it handy !  [6]
4.
I have just had my flu vaccine administered by a nurse. This year, for the first time, it has to be given intra-muscularly either behind the shoulder or behind the hip. When I used to have it in England, you had to wait in the surgery for 10 minutes afterwards because it was raised in eggs, so a tiny risk of anaphalactic shock in sensative individuals. Be careful advising people to do it themselves!
I agree, I had mine yesterday by my doctor  - ok it cost 22 euros of which 20 euros is reimbursed . Can't see what the fuss is about  - just make a RDV at the docs!
5.
Hi, Having had the same problem as you, I found a different solution.  I bought a 'ONE FOR ALL'  URC-7950 in Espace 'U' in Mayenne for about 24 euros. This enables you to control five pieces of equipment including the SKY BOX, the code required for it is 1997. So as well as having a new remote for the SKY BOX, we now have only one remote control in use instead of five. It is also possible to programme it so that the volume works in all modes and you can programme macros so that you can turn off all your equipment with one key press. Missing functions can be added and it can learn codes from other remotes. Maybe this solution is not of interest to you but possibly it may be to others. Frank
Frank that is interesting - Does the one for all have features that the sky remote has, such as the i button red button etc. And how does a french remote such as the one for all have a code for a Uk skybox ?? I may get one if there are no drawbacks.
6. I need the loan/rental of a glitter or mirror ball and any related disco type lighting for my daughters party this friday 31st. Can collect from the Mayenne (53) and surrounding areas - if anyone can help please send message, Thanks Jo.
7.

the condensates are very corrosive.
Indeed they are, which is one of the main reasons for fitting a chimney liner. The flexible stainless steel liner with a smooth interior (required by regulations for wood burning appliances) is one of the most cost effective ways of lining an old chimney although I have not seen the correct liner at 22 euros/metre. As well as preventing further degradation of the masonry, the flue liner will also improve the draw of the chimney, make the stove much easier to light, is also easier to clean and if properly fitted and not damaged by incorrect cleaning, will last much longer than 10 years. By the way, I am a registered and insured installer and have been fitting stoves and liners in France for 15 years. Good advice regarding 'Credits Impot' but as far as I'm aware it's only on appliances not installation materials.
May I ask a question? For the register plate, would this be usually one complete piece with a hole in the centre for the enamel pipe or would the hole have to be two semi circles to facilitate the removal and fitting of the stove enamel pipe to the flexy liner ?
8. Thank you Clair for the explanation I have just one further clarification please if you wouldn't mind ? You said At least one month before the end of the contract, the insurer must advise you of its automatic renewal. You are free to cancel the automatic renewal, but you must let them know." My cancellation policy is indeed 2 months notice normally, so I understand how to cancel in normal circumstances. But ... If I receive the renewal notice 1 month before the renewal date, surely that does not give me 2 months to cancel ?? Or are you saying that I can give notice one month before renewal date, in all cases?? And after I have received the renewal notice one month before the contract expires, how soon must after this must I send in a resiliation letter by recommandé avec AR ?? Basically it seems to me that in most cases you can cancel a motoring policy one month before it expires- Am I correct ?
9. I don't understand - could someone explain in plain English please as the translation is not quite understandable ? Below are my queries; 1. Am I right inthinking that the notice required is generally 2 months ? If so what is the standard proceedure to cancel  and when should I send a cancellation letter ? 2. If the above is correct and my insurer sends me a renewal notice one month before renewal - can I cancel the insurance ? If my insurer sends me a renewal notice one or two weeks before renewal - can I cancel the insurance ? This question crops up a lot so I would be very pleased to hear just clear plain facts or even a sticky on this subject would benefit a lot of people. Thanks !
10. You also need a livebox if you suscribe to the calls included service from orange
11. Yes, but quite an unusual setup for France and you would also need largish cables feeding the shower  - probably 10mm2.
12. NO! Lutece 2000 is an interior finishing plaster and is not suitable. It would attract moisture like a sponge and be a complete bodge if you tried to point with it.
13. Thanks for the reply again; - Yes all those things are fine. I've tried disabling the firewall; It says it's connected; I've tried repair; I've disabled and enabled it; IP adress automatically is enabled too. I tried the network cable directly to my laptop which is onWifi, and the laptop connected fine, so  asuume it is the network card on my PC? I was also wondering if the old copy of windows xp that I have needs updating to make the card work, but obviously it's  difficult to know what update (if at all ) I need when I can't connect to the internet anyway. I've also tried to install a wifi dongle to the PC to try and get a Wifi connection but the software won't installe either I think because it needs a driver? Help!!!!
14. As fas as I an see everything seems to be working - the network adapted says it's connected. I don't seem to have any yellow ! 's in device manager either. Any ideas?
15. Hello could some kind soul please help me with a connection problem? I have recently reinstalled (due to a problem) windows XP to a computer that was previously connected to my Livebox via the ethernet cable. I want to reconnect it now and unfortunately the cd that came with the livebox is corrupted and won't install. I have connected the ethernet cable from my livebox to my PC and when It go into network connections I see that he card is connected/enabled, but now I am at a loss as to what to do next to get it to connect to the internet?! I do have a laptop running via the WiFi connection next to my PC so I can acces the internet and  my livebox configuration settings via 192.168.1.1.  I expect it should be a case of entering some numbers somewhere ? Any help would be much appreciated.
16.
I am having  loft conversion done, and I have just received a bill. It's got two items on it that I am struggling with: 1. reprise renfort d'un pied de ferme (re-inforcing something - whats a 'pied de ferme' - farm foot or closed foot doesn't help!) 2. Traitement de bois resineux restant apparent par une pulverisation (is this wood treatment for an insect infestation)?? Pied de ferme in particular has me beaten, I must say.
1. This is the repair/reinforcement to the base of one of the A frames that supports the roof construction - "Fermes"  refer to any triangular construction that supports the main roof ( usually A frame type construction) . http://images.google.fr/images?sourceid=navclient&hl=fr&ie=UTF-8&rls=HPEA,HPEA:2006-36,HPEA:fr&q=ferme%20charpente&um=1&sa=N&tab=wi 2.This is spray treatment ( for insect infestation) to to any resinous ( white pine etc.) wood that remains in view.
17. Thanks for that - I've now configured it by downloading the  free client updater from that site which works alongside dyndns which hopefully will keep track of the IP address if it changes. From what you say in your last post I hope it does change. If it is a dynamic IP then surely it will change now and again? I tried logging in to my home cameras from Macdos this morning and it works a treat - for now. If anyone wants to try out my cameras and take alook around my place, please Pm me and I'll give you a tempoary password. I want to do this just to see if there are any issues with remote access.
18. I pretty sure that is not an option with wanadoo/orange. I dont think you get a "control panel" as such with orange. I don't want to have to pay extra to wanadoo if I can help it!
19. Thanks very much for the replies so far ; I am wondering how I can set up access to my DVR and cameras which are here in France ( connected to my PC and livebox) with a dynamic IP address then ? Ernie I have had a look at www.dyndns.org and set up an account but I am not sure what IP address to put in the box where it asks for it ?. Basically when I either type in a URL or IP address, I want the remote PC to connect via my livebox router directly to the DVR. I am close but don't know what I am doing wrong!! The problem is the only way I can test it each time is to go 6Km into a neighbouring village to try and log into it as it has to be on a different broadband server to my LAN!!
20. Does anyone know how would I know if my IP address ( livebox and orange broadband ), is a Dynamic or fixed IP address in France ? I want to configure some cameras that can be accessed over the internet and apparently it depends on whether it is fixed or dynamic. I have looked on my account on wanadoo and cannot find any info there. I have also looked into the configuration pages of my livebox by using 192.168.1.1 and can't find it either.
21. There is no 600mm seperation limit required in the French wiring regs.
22. Thanks for all these great suggestions -  not only for shows but the money saving tips too! I am a bit wary of touts trying to rip me off - I'm a Londoner but have become very trusting since living in france for all these years! I like the idea of the half price ticket booths !
23. Thanks for the replies so far - Sweet 17, I'm sure the Proms are fantastic but this time I would really like to take in a West End show as it will be a real treat/surprise, and also take our minds off of some recent bad times we have had. Bugbear - funny enough Bohemian Rhapsody came on the radio this afternoon here in rural France and I was explaining to my kids what a brilliant song it was, and that seemed to stay at N°1 for years! I'm sure I'd love that show! Anyone got any other suggestions ?  It looks like Sound of music maybe in the pickings.Has anyone actually been to a West End show recently and could recommend one?
24. Recommendations please for what London theatre show to go and see for a family that has not visited the UK for 10 years? Two children aged 13 and 14 and two adults. Phantom of the opera is a classic ? Maybe Chicago? or Les Mis or would something like Sound of music be better?
25. Quite good station but I prefer this one as I can choose what I listen too when I'm working . http://luckysevenradio.com/
