The deal is all but sealed
RogerWarner replied to RogerWarner's topic in Finding/Owning French Property
And? explain please? We have a Notaire and a solicitor on board who are doing the paperwork. -
To all those sceptics out there that said it could not be done we have done it all but signing the paperwork. We have swapped our manoir in the Limousin for a manoir in Blighty. The deal was sealed over a few glasses yesterday evening. Will it be a relunctant move? Dunno. We will miss the sun, space, ambience and of course our friends. We won't miss the price of things, French beurocracy, bracken and brambles. We just have to get all the dross back to Blighty now. RW

Now if you had a house further North ie Blighty, might be interested as we have a brand new three bed property on the Charente Haute Vienne border we want to swap.

Thanks Dog that'll be very useful. We want someone who can deal with both transactions to cut cost and assist continuity -
OK now knowing that a swap is [possible for a French house with a UK house does anyone know of a solicitor (UK) that doubles up as a Notaire ie does the work required both sides of the Manche
If it were me going back, i'd be tempted to rent somewhere rather than buy or swap. I disagree with your comments about house prices in the UK.
-

Oh my gawd wot a load of purveyors of doom!! I guess oldgit you haven't visited some of the bad spots of any French big towns or cities? Go take a look!! France isn't all twee street cafes, even rural Brittany and Limousin has its miscreance. Oh believe me. If we wish to return Blighty then by god we will. Its the land of my birth and I'm proud to be English!! (Now Brown and Blair have Foxtrot Oscar'd) -

OK some research has been done and its permissible. You can sell your house for what you like whether it be for two vache or a bar of gold. What has to be appreciated is the monetary value and the taxes to be paid IAW that value. We have had our property valued by several agents commercials. This means that us as swappers have to realise the value of both properties and the relevant fees paid need to be paid IAW the Notaires and solicitors instructions. Boom boom no pastie, eau de vie or absinth just ..................... -
From what I can see, you would need something with 3 or 4 bedrooms and a fair bit of land in France to get a 2 bed mid terrace back in blighty. Why would you?
Probably because we have too! Is that a problem? Anyway answer the question please. -
