1. I have used the Jamy Oliver "Cauliflower Macaroni Cheese" recipe for a couple of years. Quick, easy to make and delicious. He recommends pancetta but any old "jambon de pays" will do when grilled. The cheese used is french hard cheese so any Cantal as mentioned above or similar hard cheese will do. NO BECHAMEL !! ...... why spoil a good dish .....
2. Dessert last as you don't want to spend your afternoon tasting the remnants of an old camembert ......
3. I would like to add to the regional differences concerning the meat dish with or without its vegetables. In our family, we've always had the meat served with the vegetables. Not tons of it as in England, but "flageolets" with lamb, chips or mash or nouilles with steaks or chicken, jardinière de légumes with roasts etc. Since buying our house in the Tarn & Garonne, we have been to many households for dinner but only 2 families served the meat dish and then, the vegetables. In our family, when I was "a young lad", we always had the salad as a starter and this followed when I got married and had children. Some families have it after the main course, others with the cheese. But .....in all these varied eating experiences, the dessert was always served last ..... unlike in England ......
4. "Antecedents d'Assurance" .... For me, proof past insurance covers.

Moles

Noisette, is your comment referring to me calling it a caper tree as opposed to a caper bush? If yes, isn't a bush member of the tree family??
6. Would normally call this a "serrure 3 points".

Moles

You are not saying in which part of your gardens these creatures are causing chaos. If it is in a vegetable patch, plant caper trees. My uncle planted some near to where moles caused havoc. ....... You will notice that I said "caused" ...... They do not like the tree's system of roots.
8. Do you know this little rhyme ….. Il était une fois, une marchande de foie qui vendait du foie dans la ville de Foix. Elle se dit « ma foi, c’est bien la dernière fois que je vends du foie dans cette ville de Foix».
9. Hi Patf. Could you add the meaning to those (...... You and I are ok but it will help les autres .....).
10. WARNING mint ....... Insouciance .... Is something we say to someone carrying a task without being aware (or purposely ignoring) of the danger. In your case, innocence would be the world.
11. Sorry, hadn't returned to this thread since knowing all was well with mint .... Alors ....... p'tete ben oui , p'tete ben non (as they say in Normandie) ..... Without having pondered on it much, I would say yes, the meaning is the same ....... Family, dorénavant nos douches se prendront le soir ! (statement) car il n'y a pas d'eau pendant la journée. Family, désormais il nous faudra prendre nos douche le soir ....car, il n'y a pas d'eau pendant la journée. But you can also use désormais/dorénavant in either statement so .... I would say yes, one can be used instead of the other and vice-versa. If in doubt, use another adverb.
12. mint says ..... vers as in vers Bordeaux (in the direction of.....) vers minuit (around midnight...) ver (worm) ........ you can also add vert (as in green) verre (as in glass) vers (as in poetry) vair (as in the fur)
13. Well ...... where do we start ...? If I think of something else, I will come back to you but just now .... .
14. Thanks for giving a bit more on it Hoddy. You therefore bought something from someone you both know and it turned out to be a bad deal.... you have been tricked ..... if that's correct, you could say something in the lines of "mauvaise experience, je m suis fait avoir" .... but this is only valid if my guess above is correct.
15. Are you sure your friend will understand ..?? .... I don't
16. That's not what I'm saying nomoss..... I am reading plenty of "this" and "that" will happen without one yota of background justification. That's what I'm dead against ..... fake news.
17. Are you all having a go at British humour or making it up as you go ? All of what you are talking about is utter rubbish for the simple reason that, as long as the tall and lanky lady (the one that lives at No,10) hasn't sang, no-one here knows what will happen. You can guess and re-guess add some whats and ifs but nothing more that can be taken seriously.
18. For us, a Gratin Dauphinois must only be made with Double Cream. In France, we tend to use those pouches of creme "Elle & Vire" which work ok but need to buy at least 5 to make the volume. Also, plenty black pepper on the top.
19. Sophie the Giraffe was around when I was a little boy ..... We normally gave the hard end of a baguette to the teething baby.
20. Steve. You seem to be concerned about events that no-one know anything about ....... Even your government doesn't know what it is doing. So, do not listen to hear-say (bruits de chiottes in my language) and wait until next Tuesday then wait for another 3 days after that. "We" might know more about it on the Brit side.
21. You are correct woolly..... no one knows. Everybody waiting for the Brits to, once again, fire their salvo first.
22.
Steve, as the previous poster, not seen any sign of Brexit preparations on the French side in my frequent crossings.. Frankly, I dont think anyone knows what the helll is going on.
You are correct woolly..... no one knows. Everybody waiting for the Brits to, once again, fire their salvo first.
